What a huge wasted opportunity. These NuSpectras were actually good - who would have thought that!?

yet they got all shipped off within a year. Why?

I really liked the NuSpectras, too! They mixed up the canvas and were interesting to watch. You need those underdog characters you root for. That's why the first Spectra gang was so loved by the audience.

Seeing Patty in 1982, she had the rare distinction of being a good girl and being interesting at the same time.  I often wonder how she would have played the shooting and the aftermath.  And I do agree had she remained, she would have carried story well into the 80s..maybe even being Danny's end game.

And her return in the 2000s had potential had the show kept her as eccentric instead of making her full ok crazy.  Early on there was a scene where she admitted her anguish at not comforting Paul after Nikki broke up with him.  Shame writers prefer over the top instead of more relatable moments.

I thought SH Patty was such a fascinating character at first and provided such great story. Like you said, if they hadn't made her full on crazy and written her into a corner, she could have stuck around.

  3. I've often thought a fling between him and Brooke...older woman/hot younger man...would be a hit and would shake things up at least. I remember one random episode where Carter made a point of saying that Brooke was beautiful, and I wondered if they were thinking of going there.

I agree that just pairing him with a lackluster character is not going to do much good, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

The girl playing Allie has been a good addition to the show - and she really looks like the daughter of Sami Brady. This is my favorite story on the show right now.

PLEASE let Allie stick around (with Lucas)! She's been a breath of fresh air. I know AS is only short term but the show is soooooo much better when she's on it.

Lee Shin is pretty hot. I wish there was a chance he stuck around. We need some new male actors.

    Austin Reed, Days.

Particularly once Austin Peck took over from Patrick Muldoon. The character was merely the plot device for Sami and Carrie to fight over and his personality, hobbies and occupations (Piano playing, boxing, TV career on Jennifer's show) were all pushed aside.

Austin was an excellent example of a male character being an "airhead." He was fun to look at but not much going on upstairs.

Count me in on that too.

I thought 2000-2002 were great years for Passions. It only started to really go downhill once Reilly started writing DAYS again

I think when JER went back to DAYS a second time and was writing both shows it was just simply too much for one writer. Both Passions and DAYS ultimately paid the price in quality.

I think it's prime for a revival. It could work. It gets some nice traction on social media. Like others have said, the tweens are now in their 30s.

I think a of those former viewers who "grew up" with Passions would watch...and if they do the combo with the supernatural, romance, and handsome guys, new teen viewers would watch.

I know the Daytime Emmys lowered the number of required episodes to be considered for awards to 35 episodes within a year. I think revivals should be thought of in a shorter format, less episodes per season to make them more financially viable.

Meh. It wasn't so bad in the beginning. Everyone remembers the absolute train wreck trash it became though.

I loved the show from 1999-2001 and I won't apologize for it! lol

It also gets hate because it replaced Another World. For the record, I'd rather have Another World ... but I enjoyed Passions for the first few years. It hit at the right time for me. Nostalgia is strong ;)

In the beginning, the show was kind of entertaining in a weird but fresh way. I often laughed out loud at the dialogue. I watched most of the first few years, but then it started to go off the rails...and that's saying a lot for Passions! The whole Vincent/blackmailer story towards the end was beyond offensive in so many ways. I agree that sometimes JER seemed to be working out some personal issues through his stories. The focus on religion and Catholicism, also on DAYS, sort of came off as a writer torn between his conflicting views.

It was such a unique...and yes, odd...show. I do wonder if it would be the best candidate for a revival especially on a streaming service targeting younger viewers...Peacock, for example. I think of the success of the Sabrina revival on Netflix since Passions exists in a similar world.

  9. It would make sense for Nicole/AZ to be one, and have her leave town with him. If Nicole isn't going to return to her bitch on wheels personality, I think the character needs a rest. I'm tired of "crying Nicole."

Melissa Reeves and Matthew Ashford? Maybe. I'm not sure where the show could take them at this point. They can't break them up again or kill Jack for the millionth time.

If I was TPTB, I would probably keep Jack, Jenn, Kayla, and Steve but put them on recurring status. I just can't think of what could be done with those characters at this point. It's kinda the curse of the "super couple."

I guess a part of me expects the production values from back in the day. It was still nice to see St Luke's. And see most of the characters at an event. And at least Cin wasn't married at the damn HTS.

I know it's budget, but there are characters that should have been there...Jennifer, Sonny, Maggie, Roman...

I think all of the "wedding budget" went to this one. And yes, at least it wasn't at HTS.

You're right. He does not fit the cliche soap hunk model (even though he's a good looking guy whose aged far better than most his contemporaries) and he is punished for it.

He also plays Lucas with a snarky edge (which is great) and makes the character memorable, but it takes a good writer to appreciate the unique elements an actor can bring to a part, and unfortunately for DAYS and Lucas/Bryan, few have understood how useful and fun Lucas is for the canvas.

Lucas is soooo needed full-time and as other mentioned...not as the "second choice." He has such great chemistry with the whole cast. I say bring in a whole new character as a love interest for him if AS can't stick around full-time...but I'll always love Lumi!

Sally and Sheila didn't share that many scenes from what I remember, but these ones are great. God, I miss Darlene Conley/Sally so much - she was really the jolt this show always needed.

"You know Sheila, I never thought of myself as any kind of an angel before, but standing here next to you like this, I'm beginning to feel like St. Francis of Assisi, Joan of Arc, and Mahatma Gandhi all rolled into one!"

Soooo good. There was only one and only will be one Darlene Conley.

I don't think at this point that even the combined talents of Bell, Nixon and Irna Phillips could salvage the show.

Phyllis is PLAYED OUT, especially as TPTB are so tightly tied to all these vet characters. They only seem interested in repeating stories/interactions.

I thought GT really breathed new life into the character of Phyllis and was soooo disappointed when they let her go. Now, we're back to wash and repeat with what MS did when she played her before.

I really hope one of the remaining soaps snaps up GT.

Honestly, I would've gone full-on retcon and just had his sister being the culprint and gaslighting him into believing he did it. Hence why she died in the time jump - he finally found out and oh-uh, did it push him over the edge?

Cheesy? Yes. Better than having a lead heroine marry a serial killer? Yes.

I just can't get behind this couple. The fact that everyone is so forgiving of a SERIAL KILLER is too much. Totally agree that if they just had to keep the character they needed to figure out a way that he wasn't the actual killer.

  15. Agnes Nixon spoke so much about the successes of All My Children and One Life to Live. But, I've never seen an interview with her that focused on Loving. It would have been interesting to get her perspective on why the show never caught on like her earlier creations. I read her autobio, and she didn't mention the show once. I mean you can't call Loving a complete failure. It lasted waaaaaay longer than the majority of TV shows ever do. It really was the little show that could.

Lumi was always her best pairing to me.

I agree. I didn't really get the spark of Sami and EJ. And, I definitely didn't get her and Rafe. Sami and Lucas have so much history that their characters can say so much with just facial expressions while in scenes together. I don't understand why TPTB don't understand that Lucas should be full-time.

I also liked seeing Claire, Ciara, and Allie hanging out together as girlfriends (and various forms of cousins/aunt /niece). I hope that continues. Soaps need those kinds of relationships. Too often all the women are pitted against each other and can't be friends. I hope there's long story planned for Claire. She's sooo good. I know it's hard to pair her with someone since she's literally related to everyone on the show...she's a Black, a Brady, a Kriakis, a Horton...but that's why we need some new, young fresh blood characters outside the main families to mix it up. Is there any plan for Theo to finally return from South Africa? Poor Abe needs more to do.
