I started season 7 about a week ago, and you can immediately feel that the show is out of its heyday from the very first episode. It's actually quite sad. I mostly like Ben, but jesus, his story is going on wayyyy too long, and then Leslie comes in, and I see someone upthread said she was meant to be the Amanda replacement, but I'm getting more of a fake Fallon from her than anything else, along the lines of early assertive Fallon.

Sammy Jo has gotten so boring with Clay, and I'm confused in regards to her and Steven seemingly falling back in love with each other? But why???

Dominique is clearly on her way out. All of the fire she came in with is gone, and she's just another earnest Carrington. Shame that they got bored with such a fun character.

The show doesn't even look the same anymore, it's darker and less glamorous, and that just takes all of the fun out of watching.

I watched the whole series a couple of years ago, and I remember season 7 was probably the most boring. Season 9 was actually really great and tightly written...but the times had changed.

Also 2MM daytime viewers are not necessary equal to 2MM viewers in other dayparts. The value comes to the types of ads the network is able to sell based on audience income, demo, etc. It's far more complex than simply pure numbers.

And that's why I encourage every soap viewer to stream rather than watch live, unless you're one of the infinitesimal Nielsen homes. The networks can measure and track those streams, while the over-the-air viewing is based on a random sample of Nielsen homes.

Five years from now, streaming will be the norm. It's already quickly taking over. Nielsen is going to gradually become less important to the networks.

Wow...it's great to see that SB really had some upward momentum at one point. With a timeslot NOGT against GH, I think it would have done either better. When SB was good, it was on fire!

I HATE that they tossed Lucas aside for EJ (and motherf'n Rafe).  Lumi really should be endgame... I know Sheffer never would've made EJami "soulmates."  And honestly, it was really Tomsell that deified EJami... Higley and MarDar were all about showing how sick they were together, despite their attraction.  And Tomsell initially seemed like they were going back to Safe (::barf::) but maybe tptb finally gave into the EJami stans.

Lucas and Sami should have been endgame with their history. I'll never buy EJ as the love of Sami's life. I feel like there's a hole in the show without Lucas. He helps center the Hortons.

    Such fun!  Lol

Maybe...MAYBE...if this does really well, the show will consider a real online spin-off series with more episodes. I've always thought the online versions of AMC and OLTL were just a few years ahead of their time. Now, people think nothing of streaming.

I think it's a lot better that Xander did it (I'm assuming that, too).  Having Sarah steal a baby would've been too much.  Xander is an obvious "twist," though... if RC wants to swing for the fences with this babyswitch, Nicole is the real wild card.  But good luck rehabbing her after that.

I'm missing the shirtless Xander scenes though. Those can air every day as far as I'm concerned. :)

    Week ending 1/2/1987

    DOOL 8.9

    Y&R 8.8

    AMC 8

    OLTL 7.9

    ATWT 7.7

    GL 6.4

    AW 6.2

    CAP 5.6

    SB 5.2

    LOV 4.6

    RH 3.3

SB at 5.2! I wonder what their highest rating was throughout their run. I still wonder how they might have done with DOOL as their lead-in instead of AW (as much as I also loved AW).

  7. Lani and Kristen as nuns in ridiculous, but as someone else mentioned it was a surprise, and this time jump is helping mix up the canvas and who is sharing scenes with whom. That was BADLY needed. Plus, I'm trying to stay away from spoilers, so the show is now unexpected and with some mystery. I haven't felt that way in YEARS about it. Is it perfect? No. But it's soooo much better than it's been for a long time now.

At first I hated the Princess Gina plot, but KA is really trying to sell it. She looks like she's having fun again.

Is it bad to say that messed up JJ looks kinda hot? Maybe we need a new bad boy (not serial killer Ben).

Kayla and Justin...I'll wait and see.

I do want to know what happened to Hayley. It's a shame her dying is the most interesting thing that's happened to her. It would make sense if her mom/sister came back for revenge at this point.

Looks like Wilson finally has some good conflict.

Plus, another new set today! So happy they didn't put Julie's Place in "the blue room."

I do think it's time for Theo to come back and give Ben a real run for his money for Ciara. For me, Ciara and Theo are always going to be the real end game.

So Mickey is acknowledged as Sarah’s stepfather now. So I can imagine if Rob brought Mike Horton back, he will make Bill the best damn dad in the world. 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

I thought that was weird, too. I chalk it up to the dialogue writer who doesn't really understand the history. Mickey raised Sarah from birth. If that doesn't make someone your father, I don't know what does!

Yeah. I've seen people make fun his weight on places like Twitter, who are bigger than he is. And more unattractive than he is too. (Though, I like his look and don't find him unattractive). That includes both men and women that constantly attack him for his looks/weight.

I know. I don't know why people have to attack other's because of their looks...well I have an idea why. As you mentioned, the ones who are doing it PROBABLY are not 10's on the "attraction scale." It's easier to criticize others to make yourself feel better from the anonymity of a keyboard. Plus/minus the weight he's still a very attractive guy and most importantly he seems genuinely friendly in interviews I've seen him in. There's soooo much negativity in the world already. I don't know why some others have to add to that.

I always wanted to try it, out of curiosity! :D

I remember Grace talking about that cake all the time!

My favorite Grace line of all time though was, "I haven't had a thing to wear since the house got sucked into hell."

    Question

If you could've written a storyline for Passions what would it be?

Grace returns to town...only now she's especially a bit...off...and she becomes Harmony's most infamous serial killer...all starting with poisoning her tomato soup cake!

  12. Yep, the time jump was the just the last scene....Monday we'll start getting a better idea of where this is going. I'm sort of intrigued for the first time in a long time, so we'll see how it goes. I actually think a 5 year jump (like Desperate Housewives) would have been interesting. Wrap up all stories, ends with a few cliffhangers, and then jump...really reboot the show as if starting from the beginning.

  13. Seeing Princess Gina's lair also stand in for Eli's bedroom/apartment was a bit jarring. I know they have to recycle sets but when it's the same set used more than one way in an episode it's distracting. If they need to have sets that can be repurposed, they should be as nondescript as possible with no unique details.

Besides that, I am all in for Casey Moss' chest hair. :) So, glad that waxing era for men is over!

What Lani needed to do was immediately go to Eli, tell him everything, secretly marry him, stage a breakup and then beat Gabi at her own game and send her bitter hateful ass back to prison.

The drama was nice and Sal Stowers is a good actress, and the story does sort of reach back to the old days of soap storytelling, but no person is that stupid in real life.

Exactly! It was just too simple for her to grab the phone...or have a good twist like you mentioned where Eli and Lani beat Gabi at her own game. That would have been a lot of fun!  It makes the character of Lani appear to have the smarts of a paper bag.

Just to repeat, these ratings are for the issue date of Daytime TV Magazine. Search For Tomorrow was still listed in their ratings in the April, 1987 issue even though they left the air at the end of December 1986.

I wonder what was the closest SB ever got to AW....Someone posted earlier what would have happened to Santa Barbara's ratings if it had been switched in timeslots with Another World.

Back in the mid 90's on Y&R when Bug was planning her wedding to Paul, they randomly started talking about Patty and they showed pics of Lilibet Stern while Mary and Bug looked at a photo album. Alex Donnelly was brought back as Diane Jenkins at that time. The history of Jack/Patty/Diane was brought up and Paul was ranting how Jack had hurt Patty. On the day of Bug & Paul's wedding, the phone started ringing after everyone had left for the church. They showed the back of a blonde woman in a phone booth calling. Then it was all dropped and Diane was put into Victor's orbit.

I wonder if Lilbet Stern was asked to return and she declined ?

I remember when this happened. It definitely seemed like Patty was back on her way to town.

When Patty finally did return with SH portraying the role, I thought initially she was one of the most interesting characters added to the canvas in a long time. But, the writers took her too far and wrote the character in a corner. She could've just stayed slightly off kilter and had long-term possibility.
