I'd read before that SSH was the actor Bill Bell had in mind when he created Stephanie Forrester. I wonder why she ultimately didn't take the part? Was that around the time she returned to contract on DAYS for a few years. Maybe she thought the DAYS gig was the better choice at the time???

I wonder how the role would have evolved with her in the part.

Well you definitely cannot deny B&B is still the most Beautiful, and well produced Soap.  The scenes on the roof were spectacular.

Some outdoor scenes like this is what I wish DAYS would incorporate. It's not a big "location shoot" but it helps make the show feel "bigger." Right now, it feels like the world of DAYS always takes place some place with the width of six feet.

Can we dare hope that in this alternate Salem, there is no blue room?

OMG...I am soooooo sick of that blue room with the two doors and window. It has been a thousand different things, and it's distracting. "Here we are in the blue room again!" I know the budget is nothing, but there has to be a better creative way...more outdoor shooting like they used to with Salem Place? Right now, the show feels downright claustrophobic to me.

The "new Kristal" did not take off at all last season. There was no spark to the character at all. I'm not sure what a recast will do. I felt the first season was tightly written with great twists and turns while Season 2 was just all over the place...as if the show didn't know what it wanted to be.

I think it's pretty apparent that Beth really liked this pairing too. And now she might not hardly any screen time now that it's ended. And they did have fans. They recently made it to the SID list of top 10 couples.

Jett's family member's onscreen are being given hardly any airtime so I doubt they bring him back. But that was another pairing that some people were interested in for Traci. I've also seen some people say they want her and Paul (though he's happy with Christine now). But DD probably would probably love the extra airtime and story if they did something with Traci/Paul/Chris.

I thought the Cane/Traci pairing had some potential...at least it was something different. DG blew it if he fought against this story. He could have been paired with an Emmy winner whose character is arguably the moral center of the show.

I did think a Traci/Paul/Chris triangle could have potential and give all of those vets a story. I'd love it if they somehow managed to make Traci a mom again (maybe she adopts a teen that could be added to the scene).

  6. Poor DAYS...three episodes under two million. This does not bode well at all. They have about half of the audience of Y&R....which is struggling itself. The show has certainly been worse in my opinion, but I still can't seem to get myself invested in it. It's just sort of middle of the road blah.  I might watch half an episode a week where I used to watch every day. Between the budget and actors' minimum appearances stories are hard to build any sort of momentum with and characters who should interact don't. It feels like everyone is in their own little storyline islands that don't intersect, so we don't get that sense of Salem being a community.

That being said, I know a lot of this is due to the budget and the restraints put on the show. I'm not sure what the answer is...if there is one at this point. Since they're already shooting April of next year...almost a year in advance...there isn't time to turn the ship around. By the time renewal talks usually happen in January, the show will probably be shooting November. Maybe NBC will give us one last Christmas in Salem in 2020?

I wish I even had suggestions at this point on what I would think could help, but I just don't anymore. Nothing is "popping" story-wise. I'm tired of latex masks and back from the dead people and Trump Jack and a serial killer being the hero. I was intrigued by Maggie's falling off the wagon which should be a HUGE umbrella story, but SR is only getting her minimum....so there's no real build up or pay off. I mean I could watch Xander in those running shorts every day, but after a while, even that is not enough.

The ONLY thing I can think of is they need to get on their knees and beg Allison Sweeny to come back (even for a year). Sami has never been my favorite character, but it's true that DAYS feels like DAYS more when she's on. I miss the great rivalries the show used to have (Kate/Vivian, Kate/Sami, Sami/Carrie, Kate/Laura, Marlena and ED's Kristen). They helped keep the show fun. Right now, if we're lucky, we get a Julie/Gabi scene. RC was one of many writers who understood how important the Viki/Dorian rivalry was to OLTL as a whole.

I'm just randomly throwing out thoughts, but it's just sad to see the show slowly slipping away.

I think fans disliked the storyline because Felicia was portrayed as a desperate "other woman" trying to steal John away from Sharlene.  That was so out of character for Felicia.

While I think all the actors brought their A game to the story, I agree that I didn't like seeing Felicia in "the other woman" role. She was too big of a personality for that. And, then they put John and Felicia together for a millisecond before breaking them up.

  8. Eight months ahead...oh, man. That's bad. It makes it impossible to respond to fan feedback and ratings. Looking at the show's ratings, if things don't pick up I'm scared we're getting close to the end. I know it's budget, budget, budget. They're obviously working actors only their minimums which makes it very hard for a story to gain traction and the low quality of the sets have become a huge distraction.

Looking at the Horton/Brady BBQ...I remember when everyone could be there.

That said, I think they're trying the best they can. There is just so many limitations. I appreciate using legacy  characters like Doug and Julie. I was enjoying Maggie's fall off the wagon, but again, I think they just worked her the minimum so it was impossible to hit all the story beats that should have been there...Lucas, Jennifer, Doug, Julie...all these characters should have played a part of that story.

  9. I could watch Traci/Beth Maitland every day. Her character is truly the heart and moral center of the show IMO. Cane...I'm pretty much over. Now that Lily and the twins are gone there's no real reason for him to be there. I feel like this character's time has come and gone, and I hate the way the actor is treating this story on his social media. You're working with an Emmy winner and Y&R legacy character...you should be happy, not trying to sabotage it if you're smart.

I wish they would find another love interest for Traci. Someone mentioned Michael if Jack and Lauren continue to flirt...that would be a great one with the history between those characters. I also wish the show somehow found a way to give Traci a child again (adoption, etc.). I'm still not over how MAB killed Colleen for a quick story.

I'm with @Vee: Stop. Feeding. The troll.

I agree. I'm 99% sure it's a poster who kept leaving these continuous messages about how much he hated SR/Maggie on another site. It's super odd. What is the obsession there? Did she not answer their fan mail or something?

To me, she's the most interesting part of the show. I was actually hoping her fall off the wagon would be even more dramatic....like Maggie ends up on the street practically. She's doing great with what she's been given though.

  11. The only show I watched with much consistency was DAYS. I'd have to give it a C. Much of May was quite boring. It only picked up the last week of the month. All the big "reveals" should have been moved up a couple of weeks to gain traction for the month. The highlight for me was Suzanne Rogers. She took what they gave her and ran with it! Her scenes with Xander where unexpectedly touching.

Wow....think they were playing with taboo fantasies there just a bit? :)

I wonder what happened to both of them.

Eventually the victims will turn out to be alive or it will turn out that Ben wasn’t the killer.

As much as I hate recons doing something to take the "serial killer" aspect out of the relationship would be the only way I think I could stomach the pairing. I'm sorry....I can stretch fantasy for dramatic purposes....but NO ONE gets cured from "serial killing" and it does make Ciara look stupid.

I enjoyed the Xander/Maggie scenes today. Brady walking in at the end was funny.

I also enjoyed Julie and Jack. Not too bad of a show overall today.

I enjoyed Maggie and Xander, too. It was unexpected and a nice surprise to pair up the two actors for an episode. I'm guessing this is in part to soften Xander a bit to make him more long-term. Suzanne Rogers is still doing a great job with this. It's great to see her have some meaty material again!

    P&G, NBC in a Lather

Daytime's biggest spender lobbying hard to save Another World

'NETWORK TV / By John Consoli

NBC executives are feeling some pressure from Procter & Gamble as they near a decision on which of the network's daytime soap operas to cancel to make room for Passions, a new series that will premiere in July. P&G is the producer of the long -running Another World, one of two ratings -starved soaps NBC is considering for the chopping block.

While P&G has not said publicly what action it would take if the network pulls the plug on Another World, insiders say the company has dropped hints to NBC that it might withdraw most or all of its daytime ad budget. P&G, daytime TV's largest advertiser, spent $238 million in the daypart in 1998, according to Competitive Media Reporting. An estimated $50 million of the total went to NBC, according to agency executives. Bob Wehling, global marketing officer for P&G, said last week about his most recent meetings with NBC: "I've done all I could to lobby for Another World. I'm very proud of it. I hope it makes it." While Wehling would not comment on the company's likely reaction to a cancellation of Another World, another P&G exec said last week: "We have a plan."

NBC executives did not return calls seeking comment. Buyers said that if Proctor & Gamble were to pull out a sizable amount of inventory, it might not damage NBC too seriously because P&G is a bulk buyer that gets deep discounts for its commercials. A release of some of P&G's inventory would put NBC in position to try to sell it at higher CPMs. However, demand for daytime spots is not nearly as keen as it is for prime -time inventory. Johnson & Johnson, the second-largest daytime advertiser, spent $70 million in the day - part last year, far behind P&G's total. P&G insiders say that if NBC cancels Another World, the company would probably not shop the soap to another network because any interruption in continuity would further erode ratings

. For the week ended April 4, Another World posted a 2.4 rating/9 share in households, according to Nielsen Media Research. That number ranked World only ninth among the daytime soaps, but well ahead of the other NBC soap being considered for cancellation, the last -place Sunset Beach. A more damaging statistic for Another World is that its prime audience, women 18-49, has declined by more than 25 percent in both rating and share this season. While Sunset Beach has never posted numbers as high as Another World, NBC execs view Sunset as being on the rise and World in decline. Another World, which premiered in 1964, is NBC's longest -running soap. Sunset Beach, produced by Aaron Spelling in conjunction with NBC Studios, premiered in January 1997. Passions, like Sunset, is expected to attract much younger viewers thanAnother World.

And then Sunset Beach was cancelled so quickly afterwards they never gave it much of a chance. I suspect they just renewed for 6 more months in case Passions completely bombed.

  16. I loved Will reading Hope! Everything he said was true, too. Like, what the hell is she thinking? As someone mentioned, this version of Will is much more entertaining. It would be great for his inner "Sami" to come out on a more regular basis. Loved when Ted told him he couldn't speak to Hope that way, and Will said, "You can't tell me how to speak to my family!' snap.

Loving Maggie falling off the wagon. It's the best material she's had in many years. When Kristen...then "Nicole" opened the door that was great. Also, I don't find Brady as annoying when he's taking care of Maggie (instead of vice versa).
