  1. Nick is sort of like DelPo in the way that neither fear playing the top guys (the one exception for Nick is Andy Murray, which he seems to have a bromance with but fumbles when he plays). I also think the major difference between DelPo and Kyrgios is that Nick has expressed a hatred of tennis, which I don't think is just hyperbole- I believe him. Andre Agassi, in his memoir expressed the same hatred of tennis. Interestingly enough Andre spoke about Nick's talent and potential to win majors in the future but also cautioned that only Nick could make the decision to train effectively enough to make that happen, no one else could convince him. Only Nick could decide that he wanted it and would go after it. Agassi's interview was very interesting. He seemed to sympathize with Nick, in a way yet he also said, coaching him would probably be a waste of time unless Nick decided he wanted to put the effective training in.
  2. So according to the WSJ.com, Sessions used campaign funds to pay expenses for the Cleveland trip, in which he met the Russian envoy, which I'm pretty sure never came up during the course of vetting or Senate confirmation hearing for AG. These people are just the worst! EDIT. Ha @Vee Jinx, you owe me a Coke!
  3. Thiem often plays too much, LOL. Last year he had this same issue. I missed the match completely so I can't honestly speak to what happened but Sam seems capable of pulling off the occasional win, especially if the better player is not playing consistently during the match. Sometimes it's also matchups in tennis. Have Thiem and Querrey played before? What's their head-to-head? Many of the top players in Dubai are dropping like flies too! Not sure what's happening this week.
  4. Every damn day it is some fresh nonsense with these morons. Every. damn. day. Today, it's two scandals. My God. You read about kleptocracies in other countries, but is this what an American kleptocracy looks like?
  5. Since we all know how obsessed the Orange Menace is with ratings, Trump can sit and spin on this as well. The TV audience for Trump’s first address to Congress was smaller than Obama’s and Clinton’s
  6. Earlier, Sean Spicer accidentally tweeted that Donald Trump was confirmed as Housing Secretary, to which someone replied that Donald Trump certainly knew more about housing and housing discrimination than Ben Carson. Has there ever been an administration more sloppy than this one?? The Trump administration is starting to feel like it's experiencing death by a thousand cuts.
  7. I saw some of the match but didn't see the 3rd set at all. Brad Gilbert commented that he believes DelPo's match against Tiafoe the previous night must've taken some energy away from him.
  8. During the Obama administration, the FCC approved a regulation that would make telecommunications companies notify and request permission from consumers when they wanted to sell consumers' information to a 3rd party- consumers would have the ability to accept or decline and if consumers accept, the company would have to compensate consumers for the use of their information. Now with the new, Trump-approved FCC Cchief, he is now looking to delay implementation of that regulation, a signal to many that the new FCC chief intends to reverse the regulation. FCC Chairman Pai moves to block broadband privacy rules Internet privacy rules headed for showdown In other Trump administration screw-ups, in case, anyone missed the video of Sessions lying under oath.
  9. My goodness these bedroom noises from Coric, I am tempted to start calling him Porna Coric! Meanwhile
  10. Steve Bassett may have very well rocked that twist and I think it could've been interesting, since Seth was often a blend of toughness and sensitivity but network executives seemed so youth obsessed, it might have been a hard sell to pitch the coming out of a middle aged man. Quite honestly, I think that most likely, the character had to be a legacy character and had to be a relatively young one for CBS to invest. And similar to your thoughts @DRW50, I think that Marland certainly based many aspects of Seth's story off his personal biography but he probably also enjoy writing someone similar but not exactly identical to his own personality. For instance, Marland never gave the impression that he had such a bad temper or hulk-like physical strength that he could kill someone with his bare hands and barely recognize that he was doing it. I remember Seth confiding in Frannie about his temper and how he almost killed the drunk driver that hit and killed his friend Lois, and it was seemingly with his bare hands as he apparently had his hands around the man's neck.
  11. It's kind of easy for us to judge a 1980s version of a show by today's standards though. Perhaps had Marland lived on, by the late 90s/early 00s maybe we may have seen a Seth coming out story but I have a feeling that Marland was working within the restraints that had been in place for him in daytime TV on CBS. To me, although CBS had some of the best written daytime dramas, CBS always struck me as quite conservative and I am guessing that quite a few of their viewers were conservative as well. I wasn't watching the last year or so of the show but I went back to watch the last episode online several months later and was struck by some of the negative comments practically blaming Luke and Noah's relationship for driving some viewers away and it reminded me of how conservative some daytime viewers truly are.
  12. Looks like Donald Young got Klobbered by Kyrgios in that 1st set. Hopefully he can take the 2nd set, so they can at least have a 3rd set tussle. I enjoy watching Nick's game but I don't want to see Donald Young get blown off the court.
  13. Military Officers Aren’t Happy With Trump’s Tribute To A Fallen Navy SEAL Interesting, the difference in the narrative that the media is pushing versus how military responded to those optics and what Trump said. Appeared exploitative and opportunistic from the clip that I saw this morning.
  14. Since he came back last year, he's been tentative with that backhand, which still lacks the power it used to have (Tiafoe was able to exploit that a few times and race on into the net). When he first returned last year at Delray Beach, he seemed to be a bit scared that the wrist would flare up again and there were some 'tender' moments after playing back to back matches but as the season progressed and he iced and did post match recovery protocol, he seemed to gain confidence and the backhand became a bit more sure but I definitely agree that it's a still a trust issue. It reminded me of Serena for a couple of seasons with her knee after her surgery. There was a time when she favored it and for awhile you could tell it would ache a little toward the end of a lengthy match. Now, we hardly remember she had surgery, or maybe these days, Serena doesn't make it as obvious if the knee still bothers her.
  15. When I saw the pre-tournament interviews when Federer was expressing how at home he was feeling in Dubai since he has a home there and how convenient it was to go from his apartment to the courts, I thought "Uh-oh, he sounds too laid back" and I definitely felt that he could suffer an early upset but I must be honest, of the people I thought would take out Federer, I never even thought of Donskoy! C'est la vie, it can happen. @Soapsuds Since I've seen many improvements to Tiafoe's game, I believe that, at some point, the serve will be bumped up on the list of priorities for improvement. His footwork, was the one, I think in most need and he has vastly improved that. Also, his backswing definitely looks much improved. The fact that he's 19 and I'm seeing multiple improvements makes me hopeful. About Delpo, this is only his 2nd tournament of the year! Delray Beach was his first back in several months, he hasn't had the benefit of playing since end of December/early January, like the rest of the ATP.
  16. Russia has actually been testing the Trump administration repeatedly since he got into office, so this latest manuever doesn't surprise me. The Russians are frustrated with "their" little Trump not doing what was expected of him. The Russian spy ship off the coast of the Atlantic, about 30 sea miles away from a CT naval base/military academy was one provocation. Before that the Russian fighter jets flying dangerously close to U.S. Navy destroyer in the Black Sea. And don't forget conducting missile tests in violation of an arms treaty. I also expect that Russia will be looking for ways to test Trump on the Crimea/Ukraine issue as well.
  17. SCOTUS rejects a lower court decision that would've made gerrymandering claims harder to prove. BETHUNE-HILL & ET &AL . & . VIRGINIA STATE BOARD OF &ELECTIONS &ET AL .
  18. Horrible people do! Rich fat cats and the feeble-minded people who enable/support them do! FYI, to Trolls with poor information/reasoning: Just to add to that list of companies who are automating checkouts, Walmart, who can NEVER be accused of raising wages in any timely way whatsoever, is also automating their registers, apparently in a bid to try to compete with the likes of Amazon. Amazon, by the way has been hiring more staff and employees over the past year and a half, so they are NOT doing this to cut jobs or wages. Walmart is going after Amazon's store of the future with no cashiers or registers
  19. You shouldn't feed the troll but I know the need to educate wrong-headed thinking every time you see/read it is tempting but it just seems like some people's minds are closed to reality-- it'll be never-ending. Speaking of self-checkouts, the U.S. fast food industry is not the only one doing this. It's also happening in Japan. Self-checkouts in wider use at stores
  20. Tavis Smiley is a true rival to Obama...in his own mind. To me, both Smiley and Cornell West have taken it upon themselves to be Obama's personal booing section. Wonder what those two will do now? I've noticed that they are awfully quiet lately (not that I'm complaining). I guess I can count that as one of the few silver linings recently. One of the (many) reasons why I didn't bother watching last night and likely won't in the future. Even the Trump White House Thinks D.C. Pundits Are Fools for Praising Him
  21. I don't subscribe to cable but I understand that people went "in" on Van Jones. So funny that he was highly critical of Obama yet can make space to for Trump's statements. What an abomination!
  22. @Wales2004 Don't get me wrong, I will never believe anything rolling off that forked tongue but at times, in order to hold someone accountable for the claims they make, you will have to hear/read the words coming out of that person's mouth. Reading would be less painful but sometimes it is vital to see the speaker as they are making these claims- I do believe body language imparts a lot of information that is not always imparted verbally.
  23. This is why I couldn't bother listening to Trump's speech last night. Until he publicly and firmly disavows these people, I don't need to hear another lie coming out of that man's mouth. It would be a waste of my time and of particular insult on the very last day of BHM. More Than Half of Trump’s Retweets Are White Supremacists Praising Him
  24. Tiafoe vs. DelPo was such a Sophie's Choice for me. I love them both and want them both to do well. I was wishing they hadn't had to play each other in the 1st Round but that was an incredible match. Francis has really improved and I think, if he stays healthy, he's got great wins in his future and we'll soon see that big breakthrough (again, he must stay healthy and continue to improve, which is key). Many tennis pundits were predicting a straight sets win for DelPo but Frances had other ideas, clearly. Keep in mind, too, that DelPo is Tiafoe's tennis idol. It's true, listen to Tiafoe's interviews of who he grew up watching and whose game he was enamored of, it's Juan Martin! So it's big that Frances faced his idol and came so close to beating him, he didn't get bossed off the court. Frances showed signs of fatigue at 5-5 in the 3rd set and by the tiebreak, the mental fatigue had totally set it. DelPotro, being an experienced player recognized this immediately and put his foot on the accelerator. Hopefully Frances is not satisfied (and I think he was definitely disappointed) but encouraged at the strides he's been making and decides to push even further to get into that Top 50 (and beyond, of course). There is so much upside in his game.
