  1. Or on some type of substance. A weak stomach, yet still a prolific beer drinker.
  2. Lindsey Graham is making this about him.
  3. As bad as Clarence Thomas was in his life and at his job, even he knew that he could never get away with an unhinged performance like this. His woe-is-me "high tech lynching" statement was about as far as he'd be allowed to push the boundaries. Thomas was amoral and unethical but he was no fool.
  4. And people want someone like this to be in a lifetime appointment making legal judgments in the highest court in the land? Decisions that could be life altering??
  5. Lindsey Graham and his woe-is-me bullsh*t. Just pathetic.
  6. No one dared to interrupt Senator Harris today.
  7. The irony of Rachel Mitchell questioning Blasey Ford about who paid for her polygraph and other legal fees when I don't remember anyone questioning Kavanaugh about his debts, specifically that $200,000 debt as well as who paid it.
  8. I've known what CNN is all about for years now. That insinuation that somehow Prof. Hill is less worthy of empathy than Prof. Blasey Ford speaks to what we as black women have known all along. According to some, we are more likely to be sexualized at earlier ages, more likely to be stereotyped as impervious to being hurt or feeling pain. The KKK's entire ethos was to protect white women so they are seen as worthy of protection, while we black women are not. Soledad O'Brien can speak to the lack of representation of blacks behind the camera at CNN and it shines through repeatedly. I cannot emphasize enough how glad I am that I cut the cord about 8 years ago. CNN does some effective reporting but their staff is severely limited.
  9. From what I'm reading, it is being said that Republicans are regretting using a sex crimes prosecutor to do the questioning as they believe it has had disastrous results. Things likely would've been disastrous for the Republicans of the Senate regardless but now, they have someone else to blame but themselves, I guess. Anyway, from what I've seen, Dr. Blasey Ford is without doubt credible. She may have been prepped for this day but she is not rehearsed. It shows. Regardless of who would do the questioning, I doubt it would've gone any other way.
  10. This is the reason why I basically side-eyed CNN for that tweet that buried the acknowledgement for Black women being the ones who inspired these men to do the same thing they did two decades ago in the article. I read the article before I posted but CNN knows damn well most people on social media never even get around to reading the articles most of the time. If one didn't know better, one might be lured into believing that Hill had the same level of support twenty seven years ago, when we know she didn't. I thought this was intentional on their part.
  11. Lindsey Graham called Avenatti a lawyer to a porn star. Wait though...didn't current POTUS sleep with said porn star?
  12. Is it just me, or do these allegations sound worse than the previous one? Avenatti has been pressing Charles Grassley to respond. Apparently Grassley has yet to do so, but I don't think he can avoid this. Ms. Sweatnick has worked at the U.S. Mint and the State Department. She has gone through clearance procedures (back when it wasn't just a Trumpian giveaway to relatives). JMO but she won't be as easy to dismiss as Ramirez.
  13. The summers on ATWT were pretty alive back then!
  14. @Darn Two years after that promo, ATWT would be much improved in how they did their promos. I think this also assumes some knowledge of the show and its cast of characters but it would be intriguing enough to pique the curiosity of a new viewer, imo. One of my favorite ATWT-specific promos. My one complaint is that the images speed by so quickly.
  15. The promos back then were very uneven. This one assumes that people know about the character of Diana McColl and her run of bad decision-making and string of money problems. IMO, it's a mistake to do a promo that assumes a base level of knowledge about the show and its characters--not the best way to lure in a new viewer but hey, what about that jaunty hat that she's wearing! ATWT had a mix of funny promos (e.g. Dusty asking his legal guardian John Dixon why some lady is in their shower singing a Pointer Sister's song) and more serious ones (Kim being stalked). My favorites were the ones that CBS did to promote their roster of daytime soaps. Personally I think that's where all the creative efforts went. This one was pretty memorable. Back then, CBS Daytime was so much stronger than CBS Primetime offerings, so the daytime shows were often used to promote the primetime.
  16. Padma Lakshmi's Op-Ed was a searing, painful read. Padma Lakshmi: I Was Raped at 16 and I Kept Silent
  17. Oops, China did it again. Bringing the petty.
  18. Lucinda was trying to buy Diana's yacht out from under Diana? Boy, there's more missing episodes from 1985 than I thought! I guess after that failed, she moved on to try to buy Caroline's but Lisa and Craig beat her to it. For some reason, I think Lisa ended up buying Diana's yacht too (The Yacht Club). Part of the fun of being Lisa had to be that she just went around trolling Lucinda for years, sweeping up property that Lucinda coveted, even mentoring and going into business with Lily, down the road.
  19. No one who cares about Latin America and the Caribbean wants anything to do with a U.S. military intervention or backchannel interference. People still have memories of Grenada and Panama, which were unmitigated disasters (tbh, no one except a small group of elites wanted the U.S. back then either). I'm just saying that, in terms of interest, I don't see the same type of hue and cry for even the smallest of diplomatic measures to be taken, the way I've noticed with Syria. Then again, Yemen is being completely ignored and people are starving to death there, so I guess there's really no predicting what will capture the interest of countries like the U.S.
  20. I think people are concerned about Venezuela. Maybe not North Americans but those of us with ties to Latin America and the Caribbean are deeply concerned. There have been mass migrations to neighboring countries (yes, there are refugees in this part of the Hemisphere) with many of the usual reactions (even with deportations from countries like Trinidad & Tobago, which caused something of an uproar earlier this year). In terms of Iran, the U.S. could be dragged in by Israel as well, which is far more likely. Israel and Russia are having small diplomatic skirmishes over Syrian airspace right now and Iran is involved since they have a shadow presence in Syria and are the reason why Israel has taken their position in Syria, in the first place.
  21. Because it was almost exclusively the province of right-wingnuts who used to remain mostly under their rocks. They're the reason why I absconded from the comments section on Yahoo! as they used to flock there to post their nonsense. Now they feel fully confident in crackpot theories being posted on Facebook and Twitter because they now have their president who will retweet their bullsh*t. Trump loves debt so he won't care about this but this makes me think of Scott Pruitt.
