  1. On International Women's Day, no less.
  2. A lot of board members have been posting scenes in the Best U.S. Soap Scenes thread and I've been posting some from ATWT. During my search, I came across this scene from 1986 and I must say, it does not age well. At all. I realize that this scene was supposed to be fraught with sexual tension, and even, in some ways, sexy but Holden comes off in a somewhat predatory manner. We were talking about scenes that seemed age-inappropriate for the Dusty character- the same logic sort of applies in regards to Lily being a minor and Holden being an adult-grabbing her hair violently. Ugh. nv6rv.mp4
  3. So the owner of the Florida "spa" where NFL N.E. Patriots team owner Robert Kraft, Trump's buddy, was arrested for solicitation, has pictures of herself with many Republican figures, including Trump.
  4. A good part of me feels that I will never forgive my fellow citizens for voting for this viper in the White House. Part of me hopes that someday, I may be able to forgive but I see what little progress made being stripped away, I read about the fact that deaths by drug overdoses and suicides are at an all-time high (am I the only one deeply disturbed by this?) and that the global economy is already slowing down and showing the hallmarks of a future recession after all the pain and suffering and I get very pissed off. And we're focused on the wrong things...already! Looking onto the next election cycle in our perpetual election process...already! Everything is just going sideways, it seems.
  5. Yeah, I suspected you might have some mixed feelings about this. Some people say that these presidential races are no more nastier or vitriolic than a hundred years ago but it feels as though the influence of big money and dark money has made the vitriol and nastiness inescapable. Add to that the use of social media to promote vitriol and it's a pretty inhospitable environment for many people. And the expense of mounting a campaign (as you mentioned) has ensured that the average person who might want to get into public service at a higher tier, won't be able to afford to do so. It's no wonder that many elected officials often want to stay closer to the grassroots or local political movements where perhaps she/he feels the most positive change can be accomplished. I'm seeing a lot more politicians veering toward gubernatorial posts because a lot more direct change can be made from that position.
  6. People seem to be complaining that Judge Ellis, Manafort's sentencing judge is grandstanding and showing his partisan bias by claiming that Manafort has "lived an otherwise blameless life". Given the judges remarks, I guess it's no surprise that he sought to give Manafort the lightest sentence possible.
  7. He's doing it on his dime, so I guess that's his prerogative to have the guests that he wants...even jerks like Goutman. OTOH, a crowdfunded effort, he'd have to be responsive to what his donors want and we can pretty safely say that no self-respecting soap fan would want Chris Goutman included in a dinner party discussion anywhere near the best of what the soap genre has to offer.
  8. From the picture of Mr. Miyagi (sniffs) to the cover of the Bananarama song, to the set up of dojo vs. dojo, that was a great trailer!
  9. I doubt we'll get the full story of what went in the vote and all the specifics about this.
  10. Wow, as I'm trying to write an essay, I'm finding that there is a lot of news coming out today. I'm sparing a thought for marceline right now and wondering what her thoughts are about this.
  11. FYI, this Biden video is currently circulating around social media.
  12. What he discusses in this Op-Ed piece is pretty scary. Sometimes I've seen this on Twitter but from what I hear it's ten times worse on Facebook and especially What's App.
  13. A follow-up on that princess' involvement in Thai politics.
  14. Nelson Aspen clearly has a knack for conducting some very entertaining interviews with former soap stars, as he's done over the years. Maybe he should crowdfund so that he can host a series of simple but elegant, intimate dinner parties with small groups of former soap stars from various canceled soaps. I'd definitely watch that.
  15. This year already has been too sad for words! Ruth Bader Ginsburg beat pancreatic cancer decades ago, although I don't know what stage it was, but clearly she beat the odds. Praying that Alex Trebek beats the odds as well.
  16. So, after the head of the FDA resigned, no replacement has been named-- meanwhile, there have been instances of asbestos found in makeup. This is not normal yet seems to happen all the time under the Trump administration as the high turnover within Trump Inc. "The White House edition" continues.
  17. Will Smith is not even the 10th person I'd suggest to play Richard Williams.
  18. No surprises here. Always interesting to see what aspects were emphasized as being critical about four, five years ago that the media seemingly could care less about now. Like deficits.
  19. My guess is that this list is limited to people directly connected to Trumpworld and his businesses.
  20. People in my family tend to look younger than they are, especially on my mother's side so to me, he does look as if he is much older than 52. It made me wonder if there were other health issues that we weren't privy to knowing. Was he a smoker? From what I've noticed, smoking tends to age people, especially the skin.
  21. So Bernie wants to run for president as a Democrat but files for Senate reelection as an Independent. Self-serving, much?
