And 20+ million living people still wait for their stimulus checks. What a disastrous rollout!

I suspect that some black men disapprove of the fact that Kamala is married to a white man, let's just keep it real (I see a similar yet different dynamic among some black men when it comes to tennis star Serena Williams, whose husband is white). I also suspect that there is a colorism issue and a looks issue (someone actually used the word "cosmetic" to describe her and I suspect they were using the word to refer to her as decorative in more ways than one ). People simply turn a blind eye that her mother raised her as a Black woman, just like Halle Berry's mother raised her to be a Black woman. Also, people conveniently forget that Harris attended and graduated from an HBCU. I always like to remind people that liberal whites were among POTUS Obama's earliest supporters. Much of this had to do with the fear and disbelief among many blacks concerning Obama's viability as a candidate (something that Kamala's campaign suffered from too) but I do think when many black people saw Michelle Obama and that he was married to a black woman, that helped his standing among many black voters. Obama still gets criticized by 'hotep' Twitter over the fact that his black parent was African, not African-American but that is said more in hushed tones these days. Lest people forget, the Black Lives Matter movement was started by Black women, and consequently Black women were the backbone of both the civil rights movement and the Black Panther Party.

Those folks don't really want Michelle Obama. They already know she refused so she's their safe pick, the mythical Black woman that they claim to want in a high ranking (but not too high, like, certainly NOT president) position--supposed proof that they are not 'misogynoir-ish'. So, out of all the accomplished Black women out there, in these folks' minds, there's only one that is good enough for higher office? I call it the "there can only be one' mentality

Racism and racial representation on soaps
This is exactly the sense that I got about that matter. Talking about cutting off your nose to spite your face! Honestly Y&R has some some beautiful Black women characters, going back to the 1980s and has, for the most part, wasted every single one. VR/Dru is the one character who actually got some story written for her, with TLW/Olivia a distant second. I guess, Y&R really feared that these ladies would dim a White character's "spotlight". I'm still livid about what ATWT did to LR/Marshall Travers. As many times as they brought back James Stenbeck or 'reformed' John Dixon (I'd mention Craig Montgomery too but they ultimately ruined him in the show's last decade), they didn't have to go full rapist with Marshall. Such a gorgeous man LR is, and such a sexy pairing he had with TT before it all went downhill into the abyss. I really need a skilled podcast host who will keep it 100% to do a Zoom or Google Chat with Tamara and Laman to ask them about their true feelings on that whole storyline. I suspect they'd have much to say. If I had the proper equipment, I'd contact them myself!

The Black Lives Matter Thread
There was already a singer with the name "Lady A" so there was some type of dispute that was recently settled--I don't know what the resolution is though. I've witnessed my share of disappointing decisions from NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio but this is NOT one of them.

Racism and racial representation on soaps
Speaking of "Dru", I came across this tweet from Angie Thomas, author of top-selling YA novel "The Hate You Give".

Wow. I'm sorry to hear that. Whatever ails them, hopefully your aunt and cousin have mild to no symptoms and recover very soon.

Racism and racial representation on soaps
I don't think many Black actors would be crying over missing out on the blow up dolls. These issues that daytime soaps have makes me SMH. I also think viewers who are so afraid that the shows will get canceled that they'll watch any piece of schlock are also complicit. There has bee no collective movement to get these shows improve on their abysmal records on lack of representation, especially behind the scenes and I think because these shows have never had to truly improve, many have lurched toward cancellation with their lack of innovation.

Racism and racial representation on soaps
Racism, blow up dolls...with these remaining soaps hanging on by a slender thread. Sadly, I think the clock will run out on these shows before they ever get it together to do the right thing. Also, I need a head count of how many Black writers actually worked on daytime soaps.

Srjdan Djokovic seems to be working overtime at making his son into a pariah. There were two Serbian basketball players who tested positive and were in close contact with Novak over the past two weeks, yet he's so sure it was Grigor who is to blame.- The Politics Thread
Richie Torres has been criticized for being in the 'pocket' of the real estate industry. Perhaps if he had a better competitor than that toxic homophobe Ruben Diaz Sr. (who no doubt, was relying on his son's popularity to skate through), those ties to the real estate industry might have made more of a dent in his prospects. Despite the popularity of Ruben Diaz Jr., I really doubt people would've voted for his father. Regardless of what people think about the state of politics in the Bx, people are politically savvier than they're given credit for. Last night's result in NYC go to prove what I've been saying previously about the prospects of progressives of color having better results than that of the rest of their party. It really isn't about Bernie anymore (his dismal showing in NY last night proves that) and I think that even Bernie must realize that. Carolyn Maloney has been in that seat for a loooong time. Not surprising that it's been so close.- The Politics Thread
Also retaining her seat is Yvette Clark, who the Justice Democrats tried to push out last time around.- The Politics Thread
Looks like Jamaal Bowman is on his way to taking the 16th District from Eliot Engel. The results are not all in yet but Bowman has a very large lead. It's almost not even worth mentioning, I don't know who believed Michelle Caruso-Cabrera ever had a chance but AOC retains her seat.- The Politics Thread
Bernie got stomped in the NY Primary. 90% of it is for reasons that are totally unnecessary.- Netflix: Cobra Kai: Karate Kid TV Series Sequel
Wow. While it's not as news-making as when Jerry Seinfeld moved his Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee series from Crackle to Netflix, but you know this move is going to mean a lot more money for the producers/creators of Cobra Kai. Still, it's kind of shocking that YouTube elected to de-prioritize one of their highest rated shows in favor of pushing non-scripted fare, which is what this article seems to suggest.- The Tennis Thread
From the beginning, I've always made an effort to judge people, including public figures on their actions. I said in the beginning that I wasn't a fan of Novak's because of some things that he did earlier in his career, namely mind games and gamesmanship tricks that he played with certain opponents (*coughs* Monfils) that stretch back to a long time (which he has admitted to). I've also said that he earned a kind of respect from me because of his work ethic and willingness to 'plug' weaknesses in his game, even if it included great sacrifice. There seems to be a deficiency of character that he has yet to shore up. That's just how I see it. If this were an accident or a mistake, I would definitely think differently of Djokovic and everyone involved. This was not a mistake, this was willful, reckless action taken, throwing caution to the wind, without a thought to who might get hurt. Honestly, I wish these players well but I really am not going to waste time worrying about them. They have money and resources. My concern is the ball kids who may be at risk, who may live with a family member who is especially vulnerable and may not have the resources that these players have. Serbia is one of the poorest countries in Europe. While Croatia has a stronger economy, it is far from the wealthiest country in Europe. What if one of the the ballkids live in multi-generational homes? What would become of grandmother and grandfather? Or a parent with underlying health problems? Did anyone think of this when they decided to throw a big Kid's Day? Since the beginning of this pandemic, I've said that COVID-19 is a virus that is generally spread from rich to poor. I just hope this doesn't pan out to be the case here, because it could be the beginnings of a disaster. I just don't think many tennis fans and pundits think about it this way but I haven't been able to stop thinking about this. This, and the fact that this whole mess was avoidable, is what makes me angriest. I will say this...someone who has experienced a family member, friend or loved one struggle with this, or someone who personally knows someone who has died from COVID-19 likely sees this in a totally different light. In that case, it really becomes as stark as life or death.- Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
I saw this coming and I suspect more countries outside of the E.U. to rethink their positions on letting U.S. nationals into their countries if they do so now.- The Politics Thread
Zoom is also hella insecure (see what I did there? Seriously, though) and I seek to avoid them at every turn. I'm no fan of Google but I'm more inclined to use their video services because better to "stick with the devil you know". Are there still any Trump apologists left on this board? Lurking? Just in case.- The Tennis Thread
None of this, none of this needed to happen. Everyone who participated in this debacle should be isolating for two weeks, I don't care whether the test originally said negative. There is some confusion as to whether Thiem had an actual COVID-19 test or an antibodies test, he needed to be self-isolating too. Again, none of these folks were treating COVID-19 patients. None are essential workers. This was totally avoidable.- The Tennis Thread
- The Politics Thread
He's being derided and mocked by every Black person on Twitter, his main stomping ground. If some on the left aren't smart enough to have peeped his game by now, there's no help for it, I guess. People are free to waste their money on gambling and grifters, if they want to ignore the year+ worth of warnings.- The Politics Thread
Who even still cares about that grifter Shaun King?? In other news-- The Tennis Thread
Apparently, he is due to speak publicly tomorrow once he has gotten his test results. I also read that Donna Vekic got tested yesterday.- The Tennis Thread
I don't believe that it was. Still, the ITF needs to issue some sort of penalty, especially since there was a Kid's Day and ballkids present. It's inconceivable that there would be no action on this in a sport that brags about fining and penalizing people for racquet abuse. - The Tennis Thread
