  1. I am sorry and meant to state that DS was writing in the June of 88 during this episode during the writers strike. Lemay returned in Sept of 88. The Russ talk was already on the table before then
  2. I am guessing it was Lemay to bring back Russ but the Josie being Russ's daughter was already introduced psychologically. It was intended in the summer of 88 when Sharlene Frame came back to town. This was def not a Harding Lemay write .
  3. When Sharlene Frame returned in June of 88 it was clear with her conversation with Rachel on the farm ranch that Russ was already intended to be Josie's father. Look it up onYoubue. They both talk about Russ and old and times and Sharlene gets uncomfortable talking about "Josie's dad" and then after she goes on the party line that Josie goes on after Liz Matthews came to the ranch and asked if Josie was Russ's daughter and uses the alias as "Aunt Liz". This was not Harding Lemay's write, it was Donna Swejeski's but I am sure the producer Michael Liaison is the one who insist she write this. He wanted the show to go back to the basics with the old families since the anniversary of 25 years was approaching
  4. Holly Molly you really do have a psychological point of view on all of this. Class really needs to be mentioned though. Rachel was looking for something other than she knew and Alice always grew up expecting that she was going to have the perfect husband/life. But, I must mention, the Alice Mac steal thing happen before Rachel had amnesia? Am I wrong. JC returned back to role of Alice in 84 and the last lousy actress to play ALcie was in 81/82 and that was the love Alice/Mac relationship. JC returned and nothing between Alice and Mac. Hence, when a role is requested, they are not the same people.
  5. I really loved Larry Lau as Jamie. He also was also one of the longest running actors to play the role aside from Beckins. I just think all the characters in 88/89 were so great. The character changed so much. Bobby Doran played the role for years as a young teen but the actor who played him after for just a few months was like night and day but loved him. He was the temp before Richard Beckons.
  6. I remember only because 1989 was a year to watch. Marys burned down and Ada opened Paradise but thought it sucked. Sid Sugarman was Adas date but disappeared like nothing. So Stupid.. I forgot most of the Abigail stuff since there were so many episodes and I was in school but remember watching Jason Frame killed live. If you watched 1989 originally then you had to know Evan was Janice Frames son. Small glimpses of Michael and Iris but thought it was bad write but if you look at Harding Lemays intro of Iris in Oct 88 you can clearly see the body language of Iris and Michael. I can see that now, not then
  7. The sad theme during the 25th anniversary with Brigette and Vickey and again Evan at Janice's grave and Nicole with Donna is the same music used when Tania died on GH and Duke as well. It is the music used from Terms of Endearment when Debra Winger died. AW also used on Golden Pond music when Mac died
  8. Ah! Well, if you have not got to the death episodes then fair warning it is very sad. From the music to the characters. I won't spoil it but I also found some of the scenes of history between some characters beautiful from putting the past behind and grieving someone they all loved. I thought the death of Mack was one of the saddest episodes of any show
  9. This was a brief time that AW got back to the basics. 88-89. The 70's was AW's fame and they tried to bring back some characters related to that and EP Michael Liabson bought on Harding Lemay to rewrite the show but it failed. Donna Swajeski did not do a terrible job and the theme that year was focused on the show being 25 years old but once the anniversary special was over it just tanked and then kept tanking. The Murder mystery was great and intriguing especially since they used a major character as the murder and remember watching the original episodes but never catching the cue and the body language of Nicole as her being a suspect. It was great seeing JC come back as Alice in brief episodes and ironically death of DW dying as Mack was the same time as the anniversary. DL back as Gwen Frame and NC as Robert Delaney was great to see along with the few other actors that came back for the anniversary and Mack Corys funeral.
  10. From what I gathered, DW was in a broadway show with CS. When Bev, had her accident, he convinced her to audition for the temporary part. He sent a tape over of Bevs work on the show. I think she tried too hard in the role but there were some scenes where she did tap into Bev's Iris. Overall, I still think she was much more like Iris than Carmen Duncan's version.
  11. I would have to agree as Wesley Ann Pfenning at the worst actress to play Alice Matthews Frame. It made no sense from the acting to a completely looking different Alice. At least Susan Harney looked somewhat like J Courtney. No disrespect to Pfenning as an actress but just very unusual and the obvisoulsy she had no fan base considering the actress was gone less than 6 months later. I also thought L Borgenson was also my second least fav Alice. I think the dr in this episode also played the pastor at Mac's funeral
  12. I don't even remember the character Helen Moore other than what I have seen as footage at Lenore's wedding. The character was Lenore's mother. AWHP states she was on the show till the late 70's and started in 1968 but I have never even seen her listing in old closing credits listing characters. Much like the character Linda Metcalf. I do remember seeing her in 1979/80 but it states she started in 1972. Were they non-contract players? I was very very young during these times but do remember many characters and have watched closing credits from 70's episodes where they are not listed. I am guessing much like Irene Daily's name was never shown as Liz Matthews from 1988 on?
  13. Aw did we spoil the surprise for you? I think Harding Lemay would have benefited maybe if he did relate more to the times of 1988 and not his long drawn out scenes. A sign of the time and probably why and he DS were clashing over story lines. She was a younger new writer. If they just had a meeting of the minds the show would have benefited so much more. I have read that Lemay can be difficult to work with and very stubborn. He was good at what he did but like all of us, we become replaceable over time with our skills. If you get a chance, look at some of the stuff from the 70's. Very dramatic broadway type actors that were great. I mean for a soap anyway.. Also, he wrote the Frame family into the show. More or less his baby.. Steve Frame was already a character but he did a spin on his own farm family creating the Frame characters and I am sure another reason why he wanted to bring back the Janice Frame story . All speculative..
  14. I meant to mention that originally. Lemay wrote the character Evan into the show with the intent of him being Janice's son. Maybe the storyline was overkill but it was intended to bring in later stories and possibly some of them scrapped since he was gone just a month later. You are correct. The clashed big time over storylines and Lemay was not fired, he quit
  15. Adrnyc, I understand how you would feel as a new viewer to the show now or at that time but, AW ratings increased during this short stint and probably helped the show continue the more years it did till it finally died. Also, it were the case, that Harding Lemay was yawn to the show then NBC or P and G would have never considered bringing back the writer. They were so desperate and I think close to cancellation at this time as well. Harding Lemay kept the show at #1 and 2 for 8 years. AW was also a show about characters and not sci fi or the unbelievable . They did experience with some real stupid stuff in the middle 80's and of course again the late 90's because they had to compete with other soaps doing the same junk. If you knew the shows history and the characters, then you would think differently. Most of the subscribers to this thread are all old time viewers who like to see and talk about back in the day when it was a great soap.
  16. Sharlene did not return until June of 1988 and they were living in LA and not Chadwell. The idea that Russ was Josie's daughter was already in the making with whomever was writing at the time because Michael Liaison was EP and was bringing back the old characters and families. Most likely why Russ returned to BC months later
  17. Sharlene was originally played in 1977 and then recasted in 1988. Came to live on the Frame ranch with her brother Jason cuz her daughter Josie was hanging with the wrong crowd in LA. If you could ever believe that Sharlene lived in LA? haha Rachel came to the Frame farm to visit Jamie and saw Sharlene. Jason Frame was part of the story and it is available on youtube to see. She has no idea Sharlene was back in BC.... Michael Liabson was the producer even before Lemay came back and if I recall he insisted "back to the basics". and said the Frames and the Corys. So even before Harding Lemay came back, the story was more or less focused again on the the core of the show. Most likely why Lemay was rehired. LIabson wanted him back to rewrite the wonder years of the show.
  18. The intro of Josie being Russ's daughter was more or less immediately introduced when Sharlene Frame came back to town in June of 88 with Josie. First, Rachel came to the farm and she and Rachel talked about old times and the subject of Russ came up and Rachel questioning her daughters age made Sharlene uncomfortable. I saw these scenes originally but never but two and two together but after watching them countless times now, the body language tells the truth. Then, Liz showed up days later inquiring if she was Russ's daughter (does anyone have that episode? I cant find it anywhere). Sharlene acted weird after she left know Josie was A Matthews. Regarding Oliva, I think that was kind of a last minute thing and not sure why they bothered but it was supposed to be that Olivia Delaney was young Olivias mother. That was never revealed. Delaney and Russ I think left BC together in 81 or so after Tracy Matthews died
  19. Neither can. I cant stand Carl or the whole story. I think while Russ Matthews was still around maybe they should have paired him with Rachel again. They had a great relationship
  20. i dont disagree with you for a second and wish that is the way it worked out. I did not see all those awesome scenes from 1974 till years later. They should have played them. I am wondering if they were actually available. The show did not save any scenes since 1979 and I think all of the great past footage is from loyal fans??? Again though, the EP in 1989 (I think Michael Liabson) prob wanted to keep the focus on Rachel. Again, as I stated otherwise that I wish it was about the whole cast and returns and not about mac and rachel and that was their goal about the anniversary in my eyes. Who knows what goes on behind the scenes either. Actors making sure they are the focus. Cant see any reason why VW would be opposed to the 74 clip but I really think they did not have their hands on any of this stuff we are seeing now from the past..
  21. So, it is my understanding that DL was asked to come back for the anniversary in the role of Gwen even before Leon Russom declined (Willis Frame). I do believe after he declined, they did decided to make Gwen the whacko but it is also believable since she and Willis did go broke in Australia. They went there to work for Cory Publishing. They also broke up and she could start to harbor a resentment towards Rachel and Mac. Something that could happen in real life and Swajeski did throw in the line as Sharlene said to John, I don't remember her like this at all. Also, AWHP editor wrote about Gwen Frames medical history that it was even reference in the 70's she had some mental health issues. I cant confirm that since I was about 8 or 9 when Gwen played the role but due remember her with Willis. I wonder if Leon decided to come back as Willis how this would have all played out? Maybe Gwen would have been the one to save Rachel knowing what Willis had up his sleeve or maybe working in concert together to get back at Rachel. Ore even if Meave Kinkaid came bak as Angie. Willis's loves and rivals of the two women. I read the Meave was asked to come back as Angie Perrini Frame. Josie was revealed as Russ's daughter. Are you stating you did not know that or that fact that since she was a Matthews that maybe the family would be a focus again? I think AW threw away a lot of opportunities but again maybe a sign of the times. I always thought they should have introduced Frame children from Gwen and Willis and the long lost never spoken about again Vince. Molly Ordway come back to town. JQ should have def come back after the 25th anniversary but I think again VW was the star and they did not want to ruffle her feathers either
  22. I recall hearing that too. OMG., Can you imagine of Harding Lemay stayed on other than the two months. Sharlene and Pat were friendly in the past since Alice was her sister and Steve Frame was Shars brother Wow, i really like these thoughts and theories especially bringing Reinholt back maybe after Watson died and that the whole John Black thing was a set up? Hated the whole new triangle in 1981 and did not work with terrible miscasts of roles for Steve and Alice. The Ken Jordan thing was simply awful. After the 25 anniversary it all really began to tank with only a few decent stories after that. Now that I see the footage of Alice and Rachel fighting in 1974, that would have been the perfect scenes to play during the anniversary show. I am guessing that did not have any of it to play and this is fortunate we can see it now. One would think that AW production would want to show the memorable scenes of Steve, Alice and Rachel but I am sure the show did not want to show footage owned by a former actor due to copyright and monetary issues. Also, VW was the star of the show and they wanted this celebration to be about her and not Alice. I totally disagree but any EP would make sure his star player was the focus. So many new threads out here. I love it
  23. I don't think there are any episodes. if they are on youtube, can some share or direct me too them. The murder of Tom or Greg is not on youtube. The aftermath when John Randolph died yes. At that time Marianne was no longer speaking to her mother and blamed her still for Gregs death
  24. If i remember correctly too, I think the actor who played the DA/ Attorney who terrorized Pat on the stand was the actor who played Tom Baxter in 1964. I am wrong? I thought I recall my mother saying back then it was him and why she was so fragile on stand because he resembled Tom Baxter. Simply stupid but at that point AW was pretty bad anyway so it was a shot in the dark
