Maureen tired of Holly being victimized. She wanted Holly to become stronger, take charge of her life. Leaving was probably for the best as Marland never would have written Holly with the strength she was bestowed by Pam Long and team Curlee.

I wonder if the person who told you that had heard an audio recording? Jan Farrand and Gertrude Warner had very similar, quite unique speaking voices. Warner played Clare on ATWT. Jan Farrand is the actress playing Alex in the episodes I have, and to my knowledge, no one else played the part. I too am incorrect on occasion and can have a faulty memory at times, so I performed a quick internet search. In general, I do not. However, on two occasions this previous week, I had constant commercial interruptions. And even when my video played, the dialogue was drowned by audio promos for ABC Family and one of the other networks.

Jane House was fired from As the World Turns in 1971. The character of Liz suffered a nervous breakdown after her miscarriage and had to be committed to a mental hospital. A short while later, Days and GH dethroned World from the number one spot in Nielsens. Liz had been popular, so the character was brought back with Jane House playing the part again. The following year, in 1972, Jane was dismissed a second time and replaced by Judith McGilligan. Carl, I am delighted that you recognized my avatar. It is not the one I really wanted either, but I wanted to honor Diana and Where the Heart Is.

Lenore became disenchanted with Rita's serial cheating and constant cuckolding of Ed. She felt other dimensions of Rita should have been explored to at least explain Rita's actions to the audience. Allen Potter commented that the audience would never accept Rita as anything but a whore, so she was continually written as such. In 1981, Kasdorf vacilliated over signing another two year contract, as her husband wanted to move to LA. Ultimately, she decided that she would stay with GL until 1983 if she was given something different to play, but Potter refused. I feel it was a mistake. Lezlie was a theater actress and wanted to return to the stage. I believe Elizabeth's perpetual ingress and egress in 1980 were to accommodate Lezlie's stage appearances.

Guiding Light was Kevin's first job after filming Friday the 13th, though the movie was released after he began on the soap. I could not agree more about the disastrous miscasting of Jackie. Carrie Mowery would have been a far better casting choice to replace Lezlie Dalton as the listless, almost somnambulant Elizabeth. Potter and Marland made far too many mistakes in casting and story decisions, mistakes that undermined the solid foundation laid by the Dobsons. The Dobsons had created and nutured highly complex interactions between Ed/Rita/Holly/Mike/Elizabeth/Alan/Jackie/Justin and Hope. The decision to ignore Maureen Garrett and Lenore Kasdorf's wishes while essentially changing Jackie into Elizabeth, resulted in a collapse of the foundation and relegated front-burner Mike and Ed to the sidelines.

Danfling, Judy Safran replaced Terry Falls as Lisa on The Secret Storm. Terry was a very brief replacement (fall 1971-spring 1972) for Diane. On Love is a Many Splendored Thing, actress Jan Farrand played Jock's equally scheming mother Alexandra "Alex" Porter. Avis McCarther was lovely. In the early 80's she was on As the World Turns as one of the nurses at Memorial.

I will watch the July 17th episode again, too. However, the pink lady must not have appeared familiar to me as I do not recall any other identifiable performers from that time period. I do so love The Doctors, but I wish the program had credited its supporting cast with more detail. Larry Linville's appearance and amount of dialogue should have earned him a spot in the credits, but it did not. Jo Henderson played the disagreeable woman who demanded birth control information from Karen and complained to Matt.

Slick, the character of Terry Andrews on LIAMST had gotten pregnant by Jock Porter in 1966. The wealthy Porter family persuaded Dr. Jim Abbott to perform an illegal abortion on her which led to her death before the series started. This story was used to write Jim off when CBS pressured Irna Phillips to drop the Eurasian romance angle. Terry might have appeared in flashback portrayed by a day player, but she was not a regular character.

Can you be more specific, Carl? Did the character speak, and if so, what was her problem? The one who immediately springs to mind is Jo Henderson. She appeared in the July 3rd episode, but it was discussed in The Doctors thread.

More Love of Life. Lt. Garfield's first name was Burt. He was a recurring character from 1973 to at least 1976. Among other things, he investigated the murder of Bobby Mackey and was played by Robert Anthony in 1973. In the mid-70s he was involved in an arson investigation when Arlene set fire to the Club Victoria. Larry Prince was a music producer hired by Rick Latimer to advance Kate's career in 1973. Dr. Bryson, played by Earle Hyman, appeared in 1975-76. He was a psychiatrist who treated David after he committed patricide, and also counseled Felicia Fleming for her childhood trauma.

Did you see Richard in William Friedkin's Cruising? Yikes. I have met him, and he is the nicest fellow in real life. Bobby was a piece of work, though. He had befriended Bill in North Carolina when Bill was dying of leukocytemia. Bobby and Walter went to Rosehill following Bill's death. Bobby used his knowledge of Bill's life to trick Charles and Tess into believing that he and Bill had a psychic link. He even lured Van's foster daughter Stacy with tales of ESP and the occult to convince her that they could make contact with Bill and Stacy's late mother beyond the grave. Bobby actually wanted to get his hands on the rock opera Bill wrote before he died, and persuaded Tess to give him Bill's life insurance money for its production. Bobby was murdered that summer, shot to death, and Tess stood trial for the murder. All of this lead to her departure. Paul Ailey, played by Stephen Elliot, was Tess's defense attorney in the summer of 1973.

On Love of Life, Walter Morgan was Bobby Mackey's accomplice in the plot to swindle Tess out of her inheritance from her late husband Bill Prentiss, in 1972-73.

Maria was the foster child adopted by Mark and Laura Elliott after Laura had to return Billy to Iris and Spence. Maria was a troubled child who locked Mark in the garage and set it on fire (September 1971) and subsequently caused a pregnant Laura to fall down the stairs and miscarry Mark's baby.

Slick, the Bobby Mackey character on Love of Life appeared in 1972-73. This was the last story for Tess' character before Toni Bull Bua left. The 1968-69 date is wrong despite what the books might document.

When Margo thought Nevins might have infected her with HIV, she attended a support group in Chicago. There was a recurring character named Gil, played by Mitch Lichtenstein in 1992-93. He and his lover were both HIV positive. There was even a scene where Gil kissed his lover, albeit on the forehead, when Margo visited him in the hospital. Gil was introduced under Marland and appeared to be primed for a more involved role, but then Marland died. About a year or so later, Gil was brought back for one episode. I wonder whatever happened to Brian Starcher who played Hank? In interviews, he did not seem particurlarly comfortable in the role.

Unfortunately I do not. I know a collector who does have Jennifer's fall on tape, but she refuses to trade it with me because she knows that I would upload it to YouTube in a flash.

The World Series only aired five weekday matchups, October 2, 3, 7, 9, and 10. All of those are known pre-emptions, The episode we are speculating about would have aired Tuesday, October 29th, over two weeks after the World Series ended, so it could not have been bumped for that. I cannot find evidence of any other pre-emption after October 10th, other than the one on Thanksgiving Day (November 28, 1968).

If an episode had been pre-empted, it would have been telecast the next day. It would not have been skipped. The production was too expensive to skip a taped episode, not to mention renumeration to the advertisers. Additionally, it makes no sense whatsoever that Lakin and Edelstein would conclude a crucial plot development offscreen. There were too many specific references to the discussion between Penny and Nick, as well as the date between Liz and Jody. More than likely, the episode was accidentally skipped when digitized or it was too degraded for broadcast. That has been the case with Ryan's Hope and the P&G soaps. It would also explain why the same episode was shown twice. Retro might be right, but they have been wrong in the past, so I will adopt a wait-and-see attitude. We should soon know one way or the other, as a skipped episode will throw off the holiday schedule.

According to Laryssa, the producers saw Karen as a villainess, to which I personally disgree. She could certainly be an antagonist at times, and her frosty exterior turned off some viewers, but Karen was not bad. Her actions harmed herself more than others. I love the fish-out-of-water aspect -the culture clashes between her and the other characters. Given her background, I understand why Karen acts (and reacts) in the manner she does, and throughout the series my heart went out to her. I wanted her iciness to melt. I wanted her to find love and have the happy ending which sadly eluded her. To that end, Laryssa was told that Karen should have dark hair. When she was offered the part, the producers requested that she dye her natural blonde hair to brunette, and she flatly refused. The wig was a compromise.

I do. It was far too short. Laryssa's Simone was the antithesis of Karen Werner. She was warm, soft, and more attuned to her emotions. The Dobsons had big plans for Bill and Simone. Unfortunately, audience reaction became so vociferously negative that the producers insisted the story be truncated as quickly as possible. Laryssa was let go six months into a three-year contract.
