  1. That's a really interesting comparison. I wish I could see more of that AW era. Does anyone know when exactly Michael Park's work began airing?
  2. She's one of those morons: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/carly-fiorina-vaccines-parents-choice
  3. Someone was nice enough to upload this for me. And here's a Gaynor Faye interview for today's episode.
  4. They've done this for years. I remember how hard they hyped her when she ran for the Senate in 2010, even though her positions were far right and she was in a blue state. They even gushed over her for a damn ad about demon sheep. They underestimated Barbara Boxer for her entire career.
  5. Someone put up the affair reveal episode of Tanya/Des a while back. Whoever put up the 1994 episodes I downloaded must have been a fan of Tanya's, as she's in pretty much every one, but they didn't have the above. Fortunately they did have the next episode's aftermath: I can't help noticing how glam Bet looks at the start of the episode - a lot like an older version of her old, pre-caricature years. It's nice to know she still had that side of her in those last years. As I figure it's my channel, I can blather as much as I want, I also dug out one of my old Corrie books (the 1995 one Daran Little wrote) for some talk about this particular story and the impact it had. So here you go: Maureen Paton in the Daily Express: "There is something deeply disturbed about the sly Tanya, who slaps herself violently and then pretends that Des did it so that she may play the role of victim rather than predator in front of the gullible Raquel...And when the female support-system springs into action on behalf of an injured sister, it's unstoppable." Jack Tinker of the Daily Mail: "The exquisite Raquel is the perfect example of a post-feminist romantic. Like the young Bet-Lynch-as-was, Raquel appears born to be abused. But like most subtle characters Sarah Lancashire, besides making her one of the Street's great comic creations of the 1990s, has imbued her with a highly up-to-date and beady instinct for preservation." He continues on and praises the scene of Raquel running to Bet for comfort. "It was heartbreaking. Watching her face as the missing pieces of the jigsaw puzzle she had been struggling to solve finally fell into place was a play for today in itself. Naturally it was to Bet, that battered but unbowed fount of all human understanding, that she fled." Philip Middlemiss (Des) said he'd expected hate mail, but had had a mixed reaction, many men happy for him, some fans calling him a bastard, many women blaming it all on Tanya. He concluded that his character had suffered so much in the three years up to that point that most fans knew Des wasn't a bad guy.
  6. Kellie Bright will be joining Strictly Come Dancing. Given that she is all but irrelevant to Eastenders I guess she won't be missed much. http://www.digitalspy.com/british-tv/s104/strictly-come-dancing/news/a662998/eastenders-star-kellie-bright-is-joining-strictly-come-dancing.html And Daniella Westbrook's bad year continues. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/big_brother/6586725/Danniella-Westbrook-loses-CBB-deal.html?CMP=spklr-_-S9SunSocial-_-TWITTER-_-TheSunTVBiz-_-20150812-_-Television-_-221518569
  7. Lots of old films and film reels found last month at a rubbish tip in the UK. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3173700/Silent-films-100-years-ago-dump.html (the Daily Mail has a picture of someone's mutilated face at the top of the page)
  8. Well that's where I disagree then, I guess - I never liked Edwards, always through he was shallow and slick. On paper Rubio makes sense, and he will have a huge advantage - the media would sell their children for him to get elected - but he doesn't clinch it for me. The Scott Walker type makes me more afraid.
  9. Thanks. I guess it worked out for Parr...although I'm surprised Kirkwood ditched it. He is an obvious star.
  10. More bewildering plot-heavy writing choices for Emmerdale. They are obviously reinforcing that Chas hates Robert (in case anyone forgot her saying it 50000 times), but it made her look terrible that the only reason she offered Chrissie support was because she hates Robert. Can you imagine that? She basically gave Chrissie the impression that she doesn't give a damn about her or about the 3 people that died (one of whom had a little girl, one of whom worked beside her in the pub for years) and she will just blindly line up to someone who hates Robert, and don't forget to hate Robert, and bye-bye, I'm going to leave you out here alone even though I'm supposedly your friend and you're in a bad way. The biggest joke is I've seen some fans saying Chas was the only decent one. Yes, how decent to bitch at your "friend" about Robert and then leave her to suffer in the street. Just wretched writing. Then we have more of Chrissie galavanting around the village to yet again show everyone how she is suffering and how she wants to "help," so that other characters can get angry with her and we can pity her yet again. I saw fans going on about how uncaring Ashley was - what is he supposed to do? Tell her yes, of course, come along and work with us so that the people you gatecrashed yesterday can see your poor-me faces again? She already has a father to enable her at every turn. And then there's the bewildering scenes of Finn fighting Bob in the street - at least they tried to build up to how angry he was and how angry Eric and David were, and Bob was just an easy target, but if they wanted to justify Bob going to prison, then he should have at least knocked Finn out, or punched him, or SOMETHING. As it was Finn was a Ross-in-training and Bob meekly defended himself. The Sandy scene was lovely and there were a few other scenes I enjoyed, but overall it was just nonsensical plot and a hollow core. And no matter how many times they use various characters to tell me Robert is the evil one and poor Saint Chrissie is beyond reproach, I'm not going to buy it. If she was that good, they wouldn't need to tear other characters down to prop her up.
  11. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xvty3z_ste-hay-hollyoaks-11th-december-2012-e4 This has probably already been around, but I downloaded this HO episode as I wanted to put Mike Parr’s very brief scenes on my YT channel. They were blocked in the UK, so I figured why bother, and I’m just going to link to the above video. Not sure if he ever appeared on Hollyoaks again or not.
  12. Ignore him at your own peril...I think he came off calm and smooth during the debate... His position on abortion notwithstanding he definitely came out as one of the stronger performers in the debate. That can't be argued with. I've never disagreed that he's a good huckster. But that's not the same as being presidential. Fortunately for him, the last GOP President was even less competent and he got in twice, so the door is his.
  13. And all she had to do was leave instead of set fire to a car around toxic chemicals and gas (and it's a scrapyard so obviously things like that would be there). She's a grown woman. She's such a dumbass that even when he tried to put it out, she just cackled at him. This is the second time she's done something heinous and has been wrapped in cotton wool for it (the first was what she did to Alicia). And any bravery went out the window for me when she hurt all those innocent people by making their pain all about her.
  14. Jenny Bradley will be back. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s3/coronation-street/news/a662921/coronation-street-casts-actor-with-downs-syndrome-after-disability-workshop.html#~pl46vVtSvji7EN
  15. Oh I'm sure it will. I've seen people talking about how brave and courageous she was - courage is what we saw from Ruby and Val. Whatever. I know you don't want to hear me rant for 10 paragraphs. At this point it's not even about Robert for me, as I know they've given up on that character, as they've given up on quite a few, sadly. It's seeing those women, especially poor Ruby, used as fodder for more Chrissie/Lawrence/Lachlan pity parties.
  16. I wouldn't count Ross out. I'll be surprised if he's actually gone. If he is it's likely the actor's choice - every interview he has, he's asked about films and told he could play James Bond, etc.
  17. Trump is still basically existing as a sideshow while the truly dangerous candidates bide their time, but while this is still going on, it's morbidly amusing how he manages to twist the GOP elites to his view. He personally attacks Megyn Kelly - all but saying she's on the rag - and he puts up the offensive for so long and so stridently that he manages to turn the narrative into when is SHE going to apologize to HIM, he gets Faux News to mend fences with him, and he even gets them to grill that disgusting pig Erickson over his own lengthy history of hostility toward women. In a political party that is all about hucksterism and who can hate "PC" the loudest, few can trump a Trump. It's nice to know that Democrats are responding by being Democrats and either being feckless (Hilary doing whatever flailing she tends to do, Chuck Schumer's usual egomaniacal posturing) or self-destructive (protesters dominating a news cycle by running onstage and basically calling Bernie Sanders a white supremacist).
  18. I'd forgotten he was ever on the show.
  19. Matthew would continue to be sleazy for a good while - he would seduce Louise (who was seeing Terry, who'd loved her for years) and then cheat on her, leading her to tear up his suits and in a chilling reminder of the Ray murder (a story that will likely never be resolved), tell him to be careful of her, because of what she does to men who hurt her. Only when he had the broken relationship with Sadie did he mellow. It's a shame he spent so much of his last year on the show mooning over that boring as hell Perdy. I'm about to upload another January 2005 one. I thought the ghost thing was fine. I'm not really moved by that unless it's impeccably done or it is obviously not just for show (like when poor Bill Tarmey was obviously dying and Liz Dawn returned to help usher Jack into the next life), but it worked for me. My favorite part was when she told him she'd haunt him if he went near Brenda. Chris Chittell was amazing - so underrated. There's often a basic lack of emotion in the show these days (see - most of today's show), so the times we do see it, I appreciate it. Really NOT happy with the show killing 3 people just so we can go "Poor Chrissie" and praise Chrissie for her "bravery," as some fans have done. When she was "brave" enough to crash a memorial and tell everyone it was her, but it was just an accident, I wanted someone to "bravely" smack the crap out of her.
  20. I'm not sure the BARB ratings have come out yet, so they may be higher, but yeah... It may be too late, but if you want to vote in the Inside Soap Awards: http://www.insidesoap.co.uk/voting-now-open-inside-soap-awards-2015/
  21. They've been decent - not really fantastic. But it's early August so I'm not sure what ITV expected, especially as they pushed the stunt forward a month. They got about a million extra viewers than last week. I doubt it will last but it would be nice.
  22. Media darling Marco is about as presidential as George Jetson.
  23. I thought today's episodes were good, especially Val's last scenes. One of the best soap exits I can remember in a long time. Her last moment was just perfect - it was SO her. Perfect. And Joe Gill, always underrated, was great as Finn. I wish they knew what to do with him. I think the lack of a longer goodbye video for Ross means he may still be alive...it reminds me of what happened with Dean on Eastenders early this year. Chrissie was more tolerable today, although it annoys me that Robert is still shackled to her and her sick family of enablers. I've pretty much given up hope that he will ever be able to be his own character and not a plot device. Brilliant direction again tonight - the glass falling cutting to the car boot being slammed made me shudder.
