Twin Peaks
I've been sort of indifferent to the casino stuff but it was probably the best part of the show tonight for me (aside from the surprise cameo from the Log Lady - I'm so happy she got to close the book on her "Laura is the one" intro). Amy Shiels gave such a fascinating performance in some truly weird material. I don't know if Candie is heavily medicated, or just in some permanent trauma, but she would go from freaking me out (like when she accidentally hit Knepper with the remote) to annoying everyone by yammering away with Tom Sizemore instead of bringing him up to the office. I felt like the whole "men brutalize women" narrative was overplayed in this episode to the point of numbness, but the scenes with Richard, Sylvia and Johnny were extremely well done. They were very A Clockwork Orange. I know Lynch is a huge Kubrick fan. It was good to see the woman who plays Sylvia getting to do some acting. I wasn't surprised to see Ben's reaction to the whole thing - he can try to be good as much as he wants, the real Ben is never far from the surface. I never realized that some fans were sure Albert was gay and are therefore very offended by the story with Constance. I never really saw him that way - I never thought about his sexuality one way or the other. I don't need to see Albert in a romance but I like that he's found someone he can bond with. The Tammy stuff was weirder than usual in this episode. I'm not sure if she's going to turn out to be betraying them all and setting Diane up, or if it's a double betrayal from both ladies, or if it's a fakeout. I got the feeling that Janey-E will be dying soon...the whole thing of her finally having sexual fulfillment with Dougie and being happy in her marriage felt like closing some type of circle. And all the bloodshed would likely be what brings Cooper back. Kyle Maclachlan did a very good job in that last scene - the look on "Dougie's" face. He looked so innocent.

JFP had her in to talk about taking over the role. Strasser had agreed to talk with OLTL first if she ever considered another soap, so she went to see Gottlieb or MADD or whoever, and decided to return as Dorian. Supposedly JFP was upset with this and that's why she treated Strasser so poorly at OLTL.- The Politics Thread
I think a few of you mentioned success at the local level. Here's a story about state legislative wins in Oklahoma. https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/7/13/1680428/-Oklahoma-where-the-wins-come-creeping-down-the-plain- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I noticed that too. I think this wasn't long before he hit it big. I'd forgotten he was on GL. Was this Blake's first episode? I remember an interview after the writers' strike where Pam Long said that the interim people I think had no idea what Blake's secret was supposed to be, so they just stalled things out with Blake for months until Long returned and did the reveal. I'm not even sure if Liz Denehy knew.- The Walking Dead: Discussion Thread

I have to roll at my eyes over the media fervor over Joe Scarborough quitting the GOP. He's an attention whore, just like his pal Trump. He will rejoin any day that it suits him, any day he'll get more copy. This buffoon gets the pity parties because as always the media only cares about itself and sees itself as the only story around. Even with all this I still wouldn't be surprised if he and Trump are still friends. They're more alike than "Morning Joe" will ever say.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Yes. He couldn't act on there either, although at least he gave Angelique some good scenes (no one really talks about Dark Shadows here but the Leviathan arc gave some of my very favorite Angelique scenes). Looking back I was probably a real brat with my reaction to recasts (thankfully I had no Internet access) but I couldn't take him, or Alex, or Mindy, or Blake. They were some of my very favorite characters. It wasn't like recasting Lillian or whatever for me. Over time that changed - oddly enough it was the messy McTavish era that made me accept Marj and Liz (I enjoyed Alex and Hawk bantering and I thought Liz did yeoman's work in the "twins with two dads" saga). Mindy, it was mostly her last months when Michael O'Leary came back and Rick and Mindy reconnected as Eve was dying. It's a shame because I loved Barbara Crampton as Leanna but her Mindy was just plain boring and vapid. The GL of that era was a cautionary tale in bringing people just because they'd been on another soap.- Twin Peaks

The thing is I really liked Marcy on Santa Barbara, so I was happy to give her a chance. Unfortunately it never clicked. Not helping matters was that I didn't like Josh very much. I read an old SOD interview where producers answer fan questions and JFP was asked by a fan about pairing them up. Reading between the lines I got the feeling she wasn't thrilled viewers weren't responding to the Alan-Michael/Tangie/Alan triangle.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
The absence of most of my favorite GL actresses at that point (Sherry, Beverlee, Ellen Parker) and my anger over Maureen's death wasn't a good start, and then when Jordan Clarke was fired (and at the time I had no idea why as I didn't read soap magazines - I just knew he'd been replaced by a very annoying man with a fake Southern accent) and Buzz came in hamming it up, it was all steadily downhill. Harley left, there were two bad Mindy (a favorite of mine before) recasts, Nick was a sanctimonious bore, Lucy came in and I felt she was a bad Harley ripoff who got way too much airtime, I was not happy with the writing or casting for the new Alexandra, etc. I wasn't happy with Jenna being changed to a more generic ingenue or Nadine being subjugated to a triangle, I wasn't happy with Alan-Michael being the third wheel in his family and in the Frank/Eleni story, etc. There were some good parts (Bridget, David, Gilly, Kat, Eve, Holly, Ed, Michelle) but at the time, I can't say I was thrilled. I haven't watched back on an episode-to-episode basis to reassess my opinion.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

I'm glad to hear that. I always assume the worst (well that and I read some article about Richard Burr [retiring senator from NC] and his investigations and how apathetic the people in NC are about the whole thing). I'm glad if it's breaking through. It's funny because Dixie Carter was a loyal Republican. I can't imagine what she would have thought about Trump. Probably nothing all that good.- Twin Peaks
Thanks. The ratings part is interesting. I get the rest, but, even with how I feel about anything Game of Thrones after season 3 (season 4 at a push), I don't know if, "People don't understand that they're watching mediocre television, what will we do?" is the best argument. Most TV has always been mediocre and likely always will be.- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
I meant in the face, but yes, he does dress younger than his age.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
This is a partial 1994 episode. It makes me feel like I'm there watching again, enjoying what I can (Barbara's story carried the show for me at this time, although I also liked Samantha and Craig) and cringing at Mike and Rosanna just like yesterday. Awful.- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
He's 38. As I saw a few people say it's odd when he looks younger than she does. - As The World Turns Discussion Thread
