  1. He still seems to think that China is going to fall prey to his calling them out. And now he's also calling out South Korea in the process, because I guess they aren't devoted enough to essentially seeing their nation slaughtered. I also read that he's trying to strongarm South Korea about a trade deal at what is the worst possible time. I imagine we'd be in this situation no matter who was President but at least there might be a coherent response from some. And honestly deep down I don't even really think he cares, as long as he isn't personally affected. The only thing he might care about is losing face. It just feels like something terrible is going to happen soon and nothing can prevent it.
  2. I miss the old Val. The Val of her last few years I found much tougher to take - she was just a bit "too much." I miss community stalwarts like Edna or Alan. You don't have anything like that on the show anymore. The older characters are mostly isolated or comic figures. Maybe that's a reflection of society in general, as there aren't any on the other UK soaps either. I still miss them. I think there are more efforts at community now than there was under Oates, but it often feels very sloppy.
  3. He should have been, but unfortunately the Marlon/Laurel and Sandy abuse stuff downgraded him quite a bit. I don't think Emmerdale has had any particular heart in a long time - even Jack in his last years was a bitter, isolated man. The closest I think the show could come to having that again is Moira, if they tried, which they probably won't.
  4. The odd part of that was I think he has been homeless... I do like Dan and Kerry so I'm glad when the show tries to write for them. Unfortunately the writing is rarely good...
  5. Thanks for finding all these all season for us. I knew Lynch loved WoO but hadn't compared the two scenes until now. I enjoyed the character rankings but I would have put Bushnell on the list before Red (and am I the only one who thought Getty was fine in Lost Highway?). The podcast was good too. I've come away with a new appreciation for Kyle after this season. I went into this season not really expecting to care much about Cooper. You probably already saw this but I thought it was a good writeup on the season. http://theweek.com/articles/715796/how-twin-peaks-revival-weaponized-longing-homecoming
  6. By 1981 Lisa was running a tiny book stand at the hospital, which always seems sad to me. I don't ever know how I'd feel if I got to watch full episodes but other than bringing in James Stenbeck and the Montgomerys I just don't like any of the changes the Dobsons made. Or P&G made them make, or whoever is to blame. The Brad character in particular baffles me.
  7. Yes. I think he would have, but the frequent Tom recasts and de-aging of Tom seemed to mean that most of his past was meaningless, aside from remembering his time in Vietnam for the Lien story.
  8. That's the only glimpse I've ever seen of the first Hilary Bauer.
  9. Wasn't this after Natalie dumped the kid on their doorstep? Maybe Jay felt they had no choice. Poor Carol. The only popular younger heroine in these years (and for many years, really), soon completely forgotten about after leaving in the early '80s.
  10. It's a credit to Wright that even as she seemingly hated being on SB she rarely seemed to phone it in or not take her work seriously. Carrington Garland was and is my favorite Kelly, but Wright's performances helped lift Kelly from a generic ingenue role that '80s soaps were littered with. Witty dialogue aside, I'm not sure how much interest I ever would have had in SB, then or now, without the incredible talent of the cast.
  11. Probably somewhere in October for the Whites. Later for Emma. There are also rumors and speculation that
  12. A number of actors left for various reasons (Tonya Pinkins for Broadway I think, Dondre Whitfield because he was unhappy with the way black characters were treated). ABC started phasing out black characters on most of their soaps around this time.
  13. I don't mind the Eric/Faith/Rodney stuff. The White stuff is poor but it has been since early 2015. Same old same old. I'd say the show will improve when they're gone but I don't really think it will, to be honest. I'd say if you want good material try to find the earlier episodes. There are patches of decent material (I thought the Aaron and Jason stuff at the start of the week was surprisingly decent), but otherwise it's been uneven and a drag for years now.
  14. If the show was going to kill off characters for a reaction you'd think someone who lost any point many years ago, like Tyrion, would be a better candidate.
  15. I think there used to be a Christmas clip of Swackhammer with Cagney (what did you think of Cagney? I always enjoy Ashford in the role, even if the character is very plain), but I'm not sure. I think Cynthia Gibb left, then they had Swackhammer, then Eoff. The earliest episodes I can find at the moment seem to have Eoff.
  16. Elizabeth Swackhamer? That channel has some decent material, although I keep hoping some of the stuff like Sunny's rape storyline will pop up somewhere.
  17. I saw that Bethany Lenz is trying to get people to tweet in support of Alfie Allen getting an Emmy nomination. Rachel Miner is still my favorite Michelle, but she's certainly gone way up in my estimation, and she has very very good taste.
  18. @I Am A Swede not sure if you've seen these but if you haven't you may want to watch or save while they're up. Someone put up 4 episodes from 1983.
  19. From the little I've seen of her Shaffer seems somewhat wan in the role, although I guess the character was watered down by then anyway. You've probably already seen these, but I reuploaded about 6-7 Search clips from 1979 that used to be on YT. Here's one.
  20. I think Lisa stayed until sometime in 1985. Cheatham left in 1984 and was recast with Louise Shaffer. I think someone once said Cheatham may have had an issue with someone on the show at the time - I can't remember.
  21. Due to Trump talking about how he might end the order that has allowed Haitians to stay in the US since the 2010 earthqauke, thousands have been going to Canada, which is now causing headaches because scams are in place which make many of them think all they have to do is show up at the border and they'll automatically get in. This man just has such a corrosive effect on anything he goes near. I hope this won't play into the hands of the far right in Canada. http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/world/americas/haiti/article169497902.html
  22. I saw a Priceline commercial with Kaley Cuoco and Ashley Jones, playing friends. They both had bad-looking hair.
