Many on the right with big money use their money to build up and invest their causes. Those on the left often seem more likely to give token amounts of money to causes of the day, while their policies and views are in many ways antithetical to a true progressive view. Jeff Bezos being the latest example.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
That's a beautiful opening, both the music and the images. Real care taken. I think I don't enjoy it as much as I wish I could because it feels like a lie. My favorite HW regime of what I've seen would be Curlee's work when Calhoun was there. JFP began dismantling most of the best and pushing most of the worst, which makes 1992 and especially 1993 no-go for me. I also think the chunks of summer 1966 (I think it was 1966) Agnes Nixon episodes on Youtube are just fantastic. I still miss GL so much. What it was, or could have been, or still could be. GL was that messy friend you could never let go of for the longest time, and still wish you'd kept in contact with, even though you know it's for the best you don't.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
It's a lovely theme but I don't entirely disagree about the visuals. I think the lighthouse from earlier in the decade is more striking, although I guess it would have been called dated. I know these weren't their best but I always have a soft spot for the poppy openings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zh5gifxkylw- Another World Discussion Thread

Yes. He popped up on the show again about 20 years ago playing a man who dated Rita - his wife had Alzheimer's. He and the other guy had a good connection...and it was the right mix of sober and casual, reminding us of the Blitz days without going too heavy. That channel put up another episode today, where the group went to Blackpool in 1961. It's also terrific.- Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
If any of you have time before this episode is inevitably removed please watch it - it's one of my favorite Corrie episodes and for me represents much of what the show should be in structure and tone. @vetsoapfan @I Am A Swede @Nothin'ButAttitude- Twin Peaks

I think that everything has been so terrible for so long - not just this last year, but most of Obama's Presidency too (I don't mean him I mean the way he was treated) that many people turn a blind eye. And some of it is so confusing and craven. How else can you describe what Nunes did? It's desperate, craven...and yet it worked. The Republicans always do whatever they want and they always win.- Y&R: Old Articles
I always get so mixed up with the timelines. So during the time that Lauren was pushing and pushing Tim's fiancee and trying to get Traci away from Danny, she was already involved with Paul and her stalker was already starting to pursue her? That's a whole lot of story at one time. I'm surprised we didn't get a Danny/Traci/Paul/Lauren quad. I wonder if Traci and Paul got a good fan response or something and that led Bell to move her away from Danny. Or did Michael Damian leave around this time? I think I've seen the December 6 episode before, or at least parts of it. I feel like I'm going nuts because I remember some of the scenes (the Abbott material and Jazz) but I don't remember Amy's scenes... Do you think Bell was already laying groundwork in that November episode to bring Patty back as disturbed? I doubt he ever would have made her into Patty Jane, obviously.- Y&R: Old Articles
Watched the November episode and I have to agree @yrfan1983 about how unsettling it was to see Paul so harsh toward Danny and Traci. I guess it was also unsettling because the characters were all written ambiguously in a way that I haven't seen often on Y&R. The line they gave Traci when Paul asked her if she was blaming Patty for her being in the hospital ("No more than I blame myself for her leaving") really stays with you as it feels oddly un-Y&R and also is so hauntingly delivered by Beth Maitland. Beth was such a special actress and her work holds up so well. I can see why some of you thought Tim's fiancee was Lisa. She also looked like Jane Sibbett. I felt sorry for her. And Tim was such a dick to her. Any time I see Tim he seems boring or unpleasant - I don't get the appeal. So did he marry her and then when he came back in 1988 they were split? I had to laugh at Lauren being annoyed at Danny's amateurish attempt at lying to John and her being caught up in it. It was strange hearing Katherine talking out her old song (the "I'm gonna live til I die..." one). I wonder when she last stopped using that. This story and the bizarre mob story feel like the last gasps of Bell's 70s Y&R writing style. I loved the shots of Jill looking in through the window. Genuinely creepy. That story is not great, beyond unintentional comedy, but I do like seeing Amy. And the guy who plays Jazz is good, and is so different from most black men on soaps. It's too bad he didn't stay around. Did they fire the actor or did he want to leave?- The Politics Thread
Al Gore came out today saying essentially "It could have been worse." I keep hearing that. It makes me wonder if he was planning something awful that had the brakes slammed on it and we haven't heard yet. I keep waiting to hear about these new jobs. All we've heard for weeks now has been closing, closing, closing. I know that we keep hearing a recession is on the way but between the job losses and the weakening dollar it must be near. John Oliver's evil twin is saying to world leaders it's good to have a weak dollar because that means more countries will work with us. Good luck with that one. It's good if you are working for other countries, as many in our government likely are. That's not even getting into the witch hunts against the FBI that the White House and the GOP in Congress are headlong into, with this "secret society" stuff and Nunes writing a memo that he won't let people see and on and on and on. It's really spiraling out of control, this power grab.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

Is that based on my spoiler spec? I get what you mean, although I don't mind her when she's written as nasty, rather than a saint or romantic heroine. Charley Webb said last week that she's mostly staying there while her kids are young, then she wants to leave.- Y&R: Old Articles

Yes. Google pannoni4's Google+ . They have a classic soaps page. There are about 3-4 Y&R episodes from December 1984 on there. Some don't play, but they all download easily. Looks like there's some good Jill and Katherine stuff, Lauren, Jack in a peach sweater, Traci and Danny, early Joanna (I guess it's early), Paul and Andy, among others.- Y&R: Old Articles
