  1. I thought he became very dull around 1997 and that rarely went away for me, but YMMV. I do think there was a clear shift under Mulcahey with Drew no longer being heroic or caring about being heroic, but he did try for a little more nuance. CVE and Korte then tripled down on making him so vile. It's lazy writing that squanders more complex potential, but I don't think Cameron can really play an anti-hero (as he could never really play the attempts to write Ryan that way on AMC - his best work was early on when he was still very fresh and charismatic), so maybe it's for the best.
  2. Always enjoy your reviews @dc11786 I need to try to watch a bit of this now that we're heading into Christmas.
  3. Someone else will know much better than I do. @vetsoapfan may. I know she said she was under the thumb of her very judgmental parents. One similarity is Judith McConnell playing haunted women who tried to cover up a murder.
  4. I clicked on this because I was unnerved by her staring directly at the camera, but this was not one of those wall-breaking moments. There is a surprising location shoot in an actual department store here. I am trying to remember how many times we've seen that on soaps (of course there's GH and Wyndham's). Fancy and Noah seem like a promising couple. I do wonder why they split them up. They did keep Noah around as a B-character instead of just writing him out - maybe JER saw Fancy as more of an A-lister as he soured on Sheridan.
  5. Thanks. Glad to see Michelle is doing OK. The last time I saw her was in some video a few years ago where I got the vibe her daughter was trying to push her into having religious viewers similar to her own and I had to turn that video off fast.
  6. Diva behavior from writers can be handwaved, sometimes, if they are talented. If they're Ron or Jamey... Just makes it all the more remarkable he was seemingly willing to wreck the show in whatever went on with Mulcahey. I do wonder if that period is another reason for an idea of Sonny misuse hurting ratings. Ultimately, I think that story was going to exonerate Sonny, due to the med switching, but I know some still vocally hate the idea of him being morally questioned by other characters. Finola deserves better, but this is the end result of being defined by the "Vanna" pairing. She could have more with Emma, but the show doesn't have a great deal of interest in Emma.
  7. I have never read the book. I did see the movie, which is a high camp mess. I imagine the book is better. I'd heard of the show in some soap book that came out in the '90s or early '00s but I'd never seen it until I saw some scraps on Dailymotion and Youtube. Until now it's all been bad dubbed versions.
  8. I've seen some very positive fan reviews too. I know that can be meaningless but some of the people I've seen them from are happy to tear apart a project they don't care for.
  9. I haven't seen the show in so long. Didn't know it was that bad for Brooke. Poor Katherine.
  10. Hard to believe he's only the third. At least he's in excellent company.
  11. Two more episodes. I'm not sure what order these three go in.
  12. Speaking of that, we may as well say rest in peace to Penelope Milford: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/penelope-milford-dead-coming-home-heathers-valentino-1236402263/ Sorry to hear about Eggar. She was beautiful and I always thought she had a great star name. A shame her AMC run wasn't better, but it was still somehow driving story on GH twenty years later. I know this always happens, everyone goes, but it does feel like we lost a lot more people than usual this past week.
  13. Not sure you have Twitter but it was posted there: I recently posted a new, fairly long Stephanie Beacham podcast interview in the Colbys thread if you are interested in that.
  14. Thanks so much @slick jones for remembering Ed Williams. I remember him being a lot of fun on Police Squad. I recently saw a bit of Leila Martin's Loving work. I had no idea she was on Golden Windows. If only an episode would show up. She looks so much like Audrey Hepburn in those photos. Alessandro is the second I Think You Should Leave guest to be on B&B (Fred Willard was the first).
  15. So it seems like malaise all around. Thanks. It's a shame they did not at least say a brief word about the show tonight. In an ideal world we'll get another revival in a year or two.
  16. IIRC, it was said that little to nothing was done to promote Neighbours in the US, so I'm not surprised. I'm more surprised they were nominated that first time.
  17. What I saw of the material never gave NLG the chance to play a grief story the way she did when Kristina died, but she did what she could. I don't watch a ton of DAYS but I enjoy Paul Telfer when I do - he has a lot of the soap ham but does have depth at times, as well as chemistry with those around him. I would've gone with Dominic but again GH underuses him severely.
  18. Susan Walters won earlier tonight.
  19. It tells you how I feel about that poison hip story that I kept thinking she won for playing Pam on B&B.
  20. I won't be shocked if she is either. I just wish they'd at least give Trina an exit if that happens, but even that may be too much effort.
  21. Will Trina still be with him, just off contract? Is that how it was with TJ and Molly all those years? I can't remember if they were still on contract.
  22. A shame Mulcahey wasn't able to pull a Bridget Dobson speed-running to take the Emmy before JFP got it. That whole run went haywire but I guess at least he can have that as a retirement gift.
  23. Thanks for the full details. Kudos to the casting department. I know many of those names are gone now but that didn't seem to be down to casting, mostly.
