  1. It's confusing because I think the first Rick left due to not having a story and being put on recurring. Then when they recast he got more story. I think the idea behind Rick was so juicy, I don't know why they didn't mine story out of this especially since they seemed to always struggle with writing for Curtis.
  2. Thanks for the extra insight! I was hoping you'd share some of your thoughts. I'm glad the story wasn't as bad as it could have been. It's a shame that Cruz and Eden left under those circumstances. It seems like they ran out of ideas for Cruz quite a while before A left.
  3. It seems like they weren't entirely sure where to go with Rick, as he was bad, then OK, then really bad. Did you see any of the recast Alex (Robert Dubac)? Thanks for sharing your memories. I think that's most of the Loving stuff of that era I have but when I find more I'll post.
  4. I think she was supposed to stay longer, if she just suddenly vanished with no exit. I'd like to know what the initial long-term story plans for the teen prostitute story were. Was the stuff about the man who was obsessed with April and had murdered his family a quick fill-in story to replace the teen prostitute story? Perhaps they didn't think they could afford Jacquie in a long-term role, or they may have thought she was too identifiable, but I wish they'd tried. I can see her feuding with Gwyn for years. The interview is kind of sad, because she says that she wanted people to know that her absence from daytime was not by her own choice.
  5. I love those old photo shoots SPW used to do. That's also one of the few Loving moments that is on Youtube. Did you get to read any of the stuff I posted, or had you already seen it?
  6. Bleh. I have to say that I liked Bergman a lot more before I started reading soap boards.
  7. Is it Peter Bergman who worked to block any Keemo returns, or does no one care enough to even propose bringing him back?
  8. I think the Abbotts would have had potential if their younger generation (Billy and Colleen) had not been ruined and if the show had not let Ashley and Jack begin to stagnate. For one thing, they shouldn't have still lived in that house. I had a lot of issues with John Abbott, mostly that I thought he had served little purpose (beyond scolding) as his kids got older, and I can understand why the show was at a loss of what to do with him, but the Gloria story was a big mistake and it's still bizarre to me that anyone felt the way to end the story was with John dead and Gloria as the victim of the evil Abbotts. At this point I would bring in Keemo, phase Jack further into a supporting role (or write him out altogether), bring Traci back full time, have her adopt a troubled teenage girl, pair Ashley with a younger, dynamic man who is a big contrast to her but who genuinely respects her, write Billy out for at least a year or two, and fix the embarrassing writing for Abby that entails a woman who looks 30 continuing to behave like a very immature teenager. I would also like the Abbotts to cut ties to the Newmans as much as possible. I would like to see Ashley and Jack, with Ghost John's blessing, destroy Jabot, inside and out, and start all over. The Newman/Abbott stuff is so played out and any scene with Victor mumbling and huffing as Jack purses his lips is about as thrilling as a test pattern.
  9. This is from an early 83 Daytime TV. I wasn't that interested in the article (if you want to see it let me know), I just love this photo, which I hadn't seen before (now someone will tell me it's in 300 different places).
  10. Were you surprised when they brought him back? I know he was in the buried alive story (and of course some films). I can't say I was that blown away by his work with Lauren. He was fine but not enough for a return.
  11. it's weird how chaotic the show was at that time, and that they banked so much on Shari. Was it because she was married to Ronn Moss? Do you know what the story was supposed to be with the short-lived Grant Cramer character, the lab guy, they first threw Shari at?
  12. Did the Kurt Costner story play out as planned or was it cut short? I know when he first arrived the soap press talked up the possible story for Katherine. Then he had the stuff with Hope and Ashley but that seemed to get snipped. I also thought the way they resolved whether he'd killed his wife was a bit rushed. I thought the woman who played his wife, Linda Dona, might have made a better Ashley recast than Shari.

  14. February 25, 1986 Digest recap. Oh, and I read an interview with Jacquie Courtney around the time of AW's 25th anniversary, and she said that she was really excited about playing Diane, the "nasty" madam on Loving, but just as the story began to get started and she felt settled, it was pulled because ABC was uneasy about the teen prostitute element.
  15. I was reading an early 1986 Digest and it said that although Lisa and Lucinda would fight over Earl Mitchell, neither would win him, that his heart would go to a sweeter woman. Did this happen? I just remember him with Lisa. I wonder if they meant Emma, or Harriet Corbman. Perhaps it was supposed to be Lyla, until they decided to pair her with Casey.
  16. This has probably already been addressed, but how seriously did Bill Bell consider curing Hope's blindness? Is that why she returned in 1996 even though they had no story for her? I remember Signy talking about it in interviews at the time. Did they write her out because they decided not to do the story? I was annoyed at how casually they killed off poor Cliff, although I guess now I should be glad, as they would have said he abused Adam, since he couldn't compare to Victor.
  17. I guess that was the start of the lack of character interaction under Santer. It's gotten a lot better over the last year - still not where it was at EE's best, but markedly better.
  18. I know. It's too bad it didn't work out, but at least she went on to a bigger role. At least she didn't have to worry about Christina being a prominent character. I always appreciate you taking the time to read and comment on the articles, even when they start to run together.
  19. I think the only time they interacted was the Den murder story. You'd think they might have when Sharon's annoying fiance died helping save Little Mo from the fire.
