I can't take any of that channel. Was filming already completed?

That's a very sad video. (Try It On My Own) I can see why some reviews felt that album was very defensive. I never knew she covered "You Light Up My Life."

Diane Sawyer's overdramatic intro is the most addictive part of that interview - I watched that part over and over. That interview is one of those things, right from the very start, when Whitney insists she'll never be fat, which you would assume was all scripted out long ahead of time.

I think I'd lost interest in SNL by then. What did you think of her Whitney? I just wish Dionne hadn't lost her voice too. I feel so awful for Cissy. I wonder if she can still sing.

That "Melba and Mandy Moore" cracks me up. Wilson was a revelation in those sketches. I can't remember what SNL had on Whitney over the years.

I really like that cover of Step by Step. I wish she'd done that a capella.

I wish the In Living Color parody "your baby just peed on me" was online. That was hilarious. I also liked some of the early Debra Wilson parodies on Mad TV (the "sings the classics" one especially) but not really the right time to post that.

Greatest Love of All always had a lot of criticism, with people saying George Benson's version is better, and her version is overblown, but it's the first Whitney song I remember, and always found the song very touching (both the opening chords, and those big vocals as it builds and builds), along with the video with Whitney remembering herself as a little girl, which seems even sadder than usual today. That type of shameless power song just doesn't come around now. I know this was already posted, but what the hell.

Thanks for all these Whitney songs I'd never heard of, Y&RWT. All the power ballads wear thin after a while but Miracle is a beautiful song. Jennifer sang a Whitney song on her first American Idol appearance (or one of her first), so this is fitting.

And while I can see where that music was seen as selling out, it truly does have a unique, fun style, with some life to it - it's nowhere near as bland as some of what Clive Davis pushed on people over the years. I guess her true voice may have been more of a throwback to Aretha or disco, but those first years of her big career hold up very well. That's the price of Autotune. Whitney had that big voice, as Mariah later did, and Celine. Now, even if someone has a voice, can we hear it, when the alternative is someone buying up a robot-voiced Katy Perry singing about a threeway? During the 80's it seems like a lot of critics and elites saw the sounds as being crap and weak compared to previous years, but so much of it holds up today. I miss pop music.

I don't think we'll see Lisa again, especially with the Lucy Benjamin/Steve McFadden issues.
