Y&R to air classic episodes
I loved Brenda Epperson as Ashley. Eileen recently gave an interview with Michael Dairnab where she said she will not return full time and that’s she’s surprised they haven’t recast the role yet. Considering she’s so against a full time return I’d love for Brenda to come back post-quarantine. Ashley deserves better than just 2 episodes a month. Also for me, despite her being a recast I find Brenda’s Ashley to be the best. She could be tough but she had a warmth that I enjoyed in the role. Her chemistry with Traci, Jack and John was untouchable.

Recasts on shows: good, bad, in between
Two underrated recasts for me come from Ryan’s Hope, which was Recast Central. The first is Mary Carney as Mary Ryan. Of course Claire Labine wanted To kill off Mary when Kate Mulgrew left, which is completely understandable. Ultimately the show forced a recast and Mary Carney was perfect. A good actress and similar but she made the role her own. They quickly fired her and the only justifiable reason is that they were still upset about Mulgrew leaving. We had to suffer through two more recasts before they finally killed her off. The other is Ann Gillespie as Siobhan Ryan. I liked most of the Siobhan’s so I didn’t mind her leaving, but I also don’t understand why she left. I thought she was great in the role.

Racism and racial representation on soaps
I’m completely disgusted by Y&R’s Best Show Emmy won last night. They submitted the Kristoff St. John memorial episodes, which were excellent and featured a mostly black cast leading story. These actors are good enough for Emmy bait, but not good enough to lead story? After Kristoff’s memorial they all went off screen or to the back burner. They should’ve submitted episodes with the mostly white cast who actually got screentime.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
@Cat Yes the first season aired Saturday’s at noon and got good ratings which lead to them moving to primetime. For season 3 they even brought Janet, Chyka and Jackie over time do promo. They did Watch What Happens Live and Today show. That’s why I’m so shocked they just gave up on it. Literally they just had one season left to go lol.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
While technically true, I still don’t understand why they didn’t air the fourth season on Bravo. Season one did well enough to be moved to primetime and seasons 2 and 3 typically got around 500,000 viewers airing in a Friday with no promo. For an import that’s pretty good. Hell that’s what Dallas gets lol.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
She was in New York for business when she was in discussions to join the show. It didn’t work out and she went to the UK. I believe she mentioned talking to them about Ladies of London, but she ended up moving to Spain. I did love her feud with Luann though lol.

Y&R to air classic episodes
I still think it’s wild to give Paul and Christine a week, but those episodes all look good. Not so much because of them, but the other stuff we can see. I especially look forward to seeing Vivica Fox here, which is before my time. While I think there were better ways to showcase Paul and Christine, I guess it’s nice they’re getting something. Today with Emmy week I just finished Bryton’s episode and am now onto Eric Braeden’s episode. I know it’s unpopular, but I loved LML’s time at least until Victoria Rowell left. In this episode you got great business story, diversity with Ji Min and Adrian Korbel, the Winters as real multi-dimensional characters who mattered. It was lovely seeing a Victoria primarily supporting THEM. That wouldn’t happen now. In addition to Bryton, this was a year that Victoria Rowell deserved an Emmy. Idk who won in 2007, but that is Victoria’s Emmy. The Victor episode is interesting but not because of him. I don’t know how he won for this. Eric Braeden should have multiple Emmys and it’s insane to me he only got one for blah work. What I love about this episode is getting to see the original Grace! I feel Josie Davis would’ve worked better as Victoria. She’s a fine actress but clearly they wanted to take the character in a different direction. This is the best I’ve seen of Shari Shattuck’s Ashley who I never enjoyed. The Malcolm/Dru, Olivia/Neil scenes were nice and I also loved Katherine and her fur visiting John. It’s amazing how much they packed into these episodes. You still get a similar number of characters per episode now, but it’s just so damn boring.

July 8th! Rumor has it 5 women are testing for RHOA, one being Monique. If she got on she’d be the first Academy Award winner lol. I can’t imagine how that would be.

Racism and racial representation on soaps
Just to bring this back, you have a black actor speaking up but notice this was largely ignored. I don’t think any of his white cast members retweeted this. Lamon Archey at least has white cast members willing to openly support him, but overall this is the problem with black actors speaking out. The press ignores it and so so their costars so they’re left on an island by themselves. Especially in light of the overall Black Lives Matter movement I wish these casts would rally around their black cast members. Like Lamon said, yes you have 3 black characters (in supporting roles), but you need more to tell a story. GH gives their black characters good screentime, but the characters are all talk to’s. Maya was one of the most successful new characters on B&B and now her entire family is gone. Y&R is not even worth mentioning, but my point stands. NONE of these soaps can say they’re proud of their black storylines and all need to do better.

Nobody on New York would be intimidated by Tamra and therefore it wouldn’t work. They would tear her a new one. She wouldn’t be able to take it lol. Only franchise she MIGHT survive is Beverly Hills.

Y&R to air classic episodes
An entire week dedicated to two characters that have been extras for years? I hope that ends up being wrong. Cricket is one of my all time favorites, but the pairing with Paul has killed her character. Why highlight that?! If anything a Paul week might make more sense considering his tenure. Or even a Christine week focusing on her various lovers, but just focusing on Paul and Christine?!

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
Rumor has it Shed Media has just taken over production of RHOSL so they don't have any episodes completed. RHOP was simply delayed to stretch and not due to editing issues. With Beverly Hills and New York, even before they premiered Andy said they were behind on post-production so I really don't think it's a plot. They've centered the season on the Denise story and Kyle and Rinna already look terrible. They aren't going to throw out a messy story regardless of how anybody looks. And we know Kyle and Rinna are teflon and will be invited back no matter what they do. It doesn't help that the cast protects them, especially Rinna and won't hold them accountable.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
This is pretty much what Andy said. We know for a fact Potomac was pushed back to spread out new content. As long as resumed filming goes well for ATL, Dallas, NJ and OC, at least one should be ready by the beginning of the year which is when they’d need another HW show. Andy said OC filmed halfway before Covid-19 so that could be the first one out. Also this is all dependent on the shows resuming filming and not having to stop again. NY and BH will probably take the longest to film again. In other news, Nene’s exit from RHOA is supposed to be announced and confirmed today. We will see if that’s true.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
Bravo and Nene both confirm she isn’t fired. What this tells me is that she was offered a pay cut or friend contract and hasn’t accepted it, hence “still negotiating.” Theyre pulling a Vicki on her.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
Twitter also blowing up that Kenya is out. I can believe Nene out, but not Kenya too. Kenya has unfollowed Andy Cohen on social media. I still dont know that I can believe this. I WANT Nene and Kenya to leave, but would they carry on with Kandi, Cynthia, Marlo, Tanya and Porsha? The new wife must be amazing if they’d consider this. I’ve been wanting a reboot and new perspective so I’m keeping an open mind.

Y&R to air classic episodes
Sarah Aldrich was such a bizarre recast choice. She couldn't act at all and didn't have the gravitas you'd expect based on what Heather Tom did or who her parents are on the show. I had 1997 on DVD at one point so I got to see her entire run and it was painful throughout. I wonder who else was in the running. They did a great job recasting Phyllis and Grace, but Victoria and Ashley were shockingly bad.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
Tamars Tattles said Marlo will *never* have a peach but she’s one of the higher paid HWs. I just consider her a wife regardless. With Nene, I think that’s related to the show bc of the timing and she is also retweeting people who say they won’t watch without her. Either she got demoted, a pay cut or didn’t get something she was asking for. What? Idk. She better take whatever is offered though because she’s not the greatest actress to begin with and with Covid her options will be limited in terms of acting and hosting.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
Tamara Tattles said that Nene, Kenya, Porsha, Kandi and Marlo got the first round of contracts meaning they are priority. Kenya got a huge raise but everybody got some kind of raise. Tanya and Cynthia are still on the bubble, but Likely will at least get friend contracts. There will be one new housewife.

Y&R to air classic episodes
I have no clue what the theme could Be based on those episodes, but I’m glad the 2006 episode is loaded with familiar characters considering it isn’t a great period for the show. Dru, Neil, Jack, Jill, Brad and Colleen are all in it. Will also be nice to see Ji Min again. I’m very curious about what the 1984 episode will be about and who it will feature. I hope we get a chance to see a good dose of Brenda Dickson in a remastered episode.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
Although I do think she needed to leave RHOA, I still maintain she’d be a valuable asset to RHOD. I still can’t believe Bravo fumbled the bag so much. They had Claudia Jordan and Eva who very likely will move to Dallas for work and neither made the cut. I wonder if they’ll give a last minute reprieve to the black woman who was almost made the cut for the upcoming season, in light of the diversity issues.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
Porsha posted that the cast got their pick up letters today lol. So basically Eva was fired. If she had truly quit she would’ve announced if sooner, but instead she waited until she knew she wasn’t coming back.

Racism and racial representation on soaps
Thank you! I feel the exact same way. I do not understand the desire to pressure people into speaking out. I’m a drag queen and on my Facebook there are so many people who keep pressuring bars and promoters and other queens to speak out and I don’t understand why. Especially since I know personally how racist some of them are. I’d rather people do what they want so you know who truly is with you and not just saying what they need to say. To me, it’s more harmful when these racists lie and act like they care because when they do something racist they’ll just use that as cover.

Behind-the-Scenes Feuds & Drama: TV’s Most Dysfunctional Sets
I still want to know what exactly happened here. We know details about Nicollette’s issues with Marc Cherry, but I’ve never quite understood why they hate Teri Hatcher so much and who was in the wrong there.

Y&R to air classic episodes
The thing with Kevin is that he was also a child molester! Lily was 14 and very clearly in high school when he tricked her into that relationship. His redemption has always troubled me. I was okay with it when Neil, Dru, Colleen and JT could all speak on his past and held him to a distance. In 2004 when they brought on Joan Van Ark’s darker and more nuanced Gloria, they did a good job of showing you why Michael and Kevin were how they were, but without making excuses for their behavior. They did have their allies like Lauren and Mac which bothered some people, but I thought it was fair and realistic. When the old guard was written out this all changed. Suddenly Colleen was written as someone attacking Kevin for being upset he’d tried to kill her and raped her best friend. Then his actions were overlooked and he was hanging with Katherine Chancellor! Not only is that bad writing, but the character has never worked since they did that. Traci and Brad’s second marriage suffered a lot due to his flirtation with Ashley. They didn’t even officially get together back then, but it was enough to mess with Traci’s insecurities and eventually doom that relationship. Ashley and Traci had a very frosty relationship which is completely overlooked now. I *hate* Traci the saint. She used to have insecurities, sexuality and layers. Now she is just the Town Saint. It’s great they use her, but it’s not who Traci was. As for Mac, I LOVED Ashley Bashioum. She was so unique, but very much a Bill Bell actor. It’s similar to Heather Tom as Victoria. Bill Bell and Y&R knew how to cast actors that really fit the style of the show that wouldn’t work on an ABC or NBC soap in some cases. With Mac I don’t understand how it was so hard to recast her. Kelly Kruger has grown enough that I’d accept her there full time, but there’s no investment in her character. It’s a shame considering we need heroines and she is a Chancellor with kids carrying that blood. Another thing I’ve noticed watching the Y&R and B&B classics is what a shell of herself Lauren is. She is SO boring. I liked Michael and Lauren in 2005 but they have been Zzzzz for 15 years now. She has none of the personality traits that made her a popular character. I personally would love to see her do another long term B&B stint. At least there she may get her fun and sexuality back.

Return To Peyton Place Discussion Thread
He doesn’t look like what I’d expect from a Martin Peyton recast. Looks like they made the character younger.
