  3. More than a month since alerting fans that she would be having back surgery which would require ample recovery time, “General Hospital” star Nancy Lee Grahn recently announced that she’s taping again at the daytime drama series. During her absence, the role of Alexis Davis was temporarily recast with actress Stephanie Erb whose scenes began airing earlier this week. “It was, I think, the longest I have been off of work since I’ve worked on daytime,” Grahn said in an Instagram video she shared yesterday. “What is also crazy is, when I was a young gal, I had a huge crush on ‘Trapper John, M.D.,’ and today, I had all my scenes with him and it was really fun,” added Grahn, seemingly referring to co-star Gregory Harrison who plays Gregory Chase on “GH.” In the primetime series which ran from 1979-1986 on CBS and was a spinoff of “M*A*S*H*,” Harrison played Dr. George Alonzo ‘Gonzo’ Gates. Commenting on Erb taking over the role of Alexis Davis in her absence, Grahn said, “Thank you Stephanie Erb very much for filling in for me. It’s much appreciated. I didn’t get to meet you, but I hope I do one day soon.” Grahn will likely appear back on screen at some point in late May based on the show’s current tape-to-air schedule. 4. “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem” will require a premium subscription to Peacock when the series returns for its second chapter in July, Soap Opera Network can confirm. This follows a decision in December 2021 by the streaming platform to require a premium subscription plan in order to view “Days of our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas,” the first-ever original Christmas movie featuring cast members from “Days of our Lives.” At launch, the first chapter of “Beyond Salem” was available for free. Currently, only the first episode can be viewed without a paid subscription while the remaining four episodes require an upgrade. With both Kristian Alfonso and Peter Reckell reprising their roles as Hope Williams Brady and Bo Brady, respectively, the second chapter hits Peacock with five all-new episodes releasing daily from Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15. The next chapter is being billed as an epic, action-packed tale that spans the entire globe, from Monte Carlo to Hong Kong with beloved characters from “Days of our Lives” once again going “Beyond Salem” as they trade the comforts of home for an adventure of a lifetime! Over the course of five thrilling episodes, heartwarming family reunions take a dangerous turn as a mysterious adversary wreaks havoc on their lives. During Q1, the service gained an additional four million paid subscribers thanks to the availability of both the Super Bowl and the Olympics for an overall paid subscriber base of 13 million. In total, the service has 28 million active monthly subscribers. In discussing the streaming service’s success, NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell said, “The noise in the rest of the streaming business just validates where we’re going,” referring to recent woes plaguing Netflix, among other streamers. “We’ve said from the beginning when we launched Peacock that we’re taking a different approach from other people in the streaming business. We don’t view Peacock as a separate and distinct business. We think of it as an extension of our existing TV business. And we manage it that way, that’s how we set up our business. That’s how we program it, that’s how we sell advertising across both linear and Peacock. I think that that strategy is working.” A premium subscription for Peacock costs $4.99 a month (with ads) or $9.99 a month (without ads*). The higher tier requires some advertising for select programming and the ability to watch select titles offline with download capability. 6. When James Corden concludes his run as the host of “The Late Late Show” in 2023, he will have hosted the series for eight and a half years, the second-longest tenure as host of the series behind only Craig Ferguson. According to Deadline, Corden will exit the late night staple ahead of summer 2023. He had previously signed an extension agreement with CBS in 2019 that would keep him as host through the end of August 2023. “It’s been it’s a really hard decision to leave because I’m so immensely proud of the show. I’m thrilled to be extending [for a year],” Corden told Deadline. “I always thought I’d do it for five years and then leave and then I stayed on. I’ve really been thinking about it for a long time, thinking whether there might be one more adventure.” Although executives at CBS did everything they could to keep Corden in the fold, the comedian ultimately felt the time was right to say goodbye. “My bosses here at CBS have been incredibly supportive and extraordinarily patient with me while I made this decision,” Corden noted. In a statement, CBS President & CEO, George Cheeks said, “Seven years ago, James Corden came to the U.S. and took television by storm, with huge creative and comedic swings that resonated in a big way with viewers on-air and online. From Crosswalk the Musical to the legendary Carpool Karaoke, and every unique comedy segment he introduced, James has truly reimagined many elements of the late night format. He has also been the consummate network showman, entertaining audiences from his nightly perch at Television City as well as the Tony and Grammy stage.” He added, “In my two years at CBS, I’ve had the privilege to see James’ creative genius up close and experience his valuable partnership with CBS, both as a performer and a producer. We wish he could stay longer, but we are very proud he made CBS his American home and that this partnership will extend one more season on The Late Late Show.” While one would expect Corden to return to his UK routes following his departure, he told the publication he and his family “genuinely don’t know the answer to that,” stating, “It’s something we think about and we talk about a lot but we haven’t really made a decision on that yet. That’s the life side of things which we’ll figure out.” He added, “I love living here. I love everything it’s given. My family and I have never taken this incredible adventure for granted. Every day I drive down Sunset to work and I just think I’m from High Wycombe.” In addition to hosting, Corden has also served as a producer on “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” The series debuted on March 23, 2015, with Corden as host, and currently sits at just over 1,000 episodes recorded. Previous hosts have included the aforementioned Ferguson who hosted from 2005-2014, Craig Kilborn (1999-2004) and Tom Snyder (1995-1999). Overall, “The Late Late Show” debuted on CBS with Snyder as the show’s first host in January 1995. There are no current plans on how the network plans to handle the show following Corden’s exit next year. During the period between Ferguson’s exit and Corden’s debut, CBS initially aired reruns before switching to special editions featuring numerous guest hosts including the co-hosts from “The Talk,” Drew Carey from “The Price is Right,” Wayne Brady from “Let’s Make a Deal,” filmmaker Judd Apatow, and actors Will Arnett, Billy Gardell, Sean Hayes and Kunal Nayyar, among others, stepping behind the desk. In the meantime, she must keep her superhero identity secret from her parents and her older brother Santiago (“Tiago”), as well as her friends and schoolmates. However, she does lean on one close confidante: her best friend Maya Miller-Martinez, who provides advice and assists with documenting Ultra Violet’s adventures on social media. 8. “Days of our Lives” star John Aniston will be this year’s recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at “The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards,” taking place live and in-person on Friday, June 24 on CBS and streaming live and on demand on Paramount+. Meanwhile, the complete list of nominations will be announced on Thursday, May 5 with additional information available in the coming weeks. Since 1985, Aniston has portrayed the iconic role of Victor Kirakis on the NBC daytime drama series. He was previously nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2017 for his portrayal. In real-life, he is the father of actress Jennifer Aniston (“Friends”). Also receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award this year is LeVar Burton who will be honored during the first-ever “Children’s & Family Emmy Awards,” a spinoff of the Daytime Emmys and marks the first standalone expansion for the Emmy Awards since the launch of the “Sports Emmy Awards” and the “News & Documentary Emmy Awards” in 1979. Burton has received more than 20 Emmy Awards throughout his storied career and is best known for his performance as Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and as the host of “Reading Rainbow.” “The 1st Annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards” will take place on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles. The event will also be in-person as will all other Emmy Awards celebrations going forward. “We look forward to honoring this year’s unparalleled class of Lifetime Achievement honorees, each an icon in their craft, and couldn’t be more excited to award the first-ever Children’s & Family Emmys,” said Adam Sharp, President & CEO, The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “After two years of virtual ceremonies, we’re overjoyed to once again be together, in-person, to celebrate the best of television.” In addition to Aniston and Burton, other Lifetime Achievement Award winners this year include technology entrepreneur Yvette Kanouff (Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards), sports journalist Lesley Visser (Sports Emmy Awards) and PBS News anchor Judy Woodruff (News & Documentary Emmy Awards). 9. “The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” will be broadcast live on Friday, June 24 from 9:00-11:00 p.m. ET (delayed PT) on CBS, the network announced today. Viewers will also be able to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. Nominations will be announced on Thursday, May 5 with additional information available in the coming weeks. This year’s telecast will mark the first time since 2019 that the awards show will take place in person and broadcast live. The 2020 telecast aired with winners accepting their awards virtually. In 2021, segments were pre-recorded with winners accepting either in-person or virtually. As has been the case in recent years, the ceremony will take place at the Pasadena Civic Center in Pasadena California with attendees celebrating outstanding achievements in daytime television programming during calendar year 2021. “After two years of virtual ceremonies, we’re overjoyed to once again be together, in-person, to celebrate the best of television.” “The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” will be produced by NATAS and American Television International, and marks the sixth time ATI has produced the awards show. In 2009, ATI produced the telecast which aired on The CW and produced the telecast in 2010, 2011, 2020 and 2021 for CBS. This will mark the third consecutive year in which CBS will air the awards show, and the second of a two-year deal signed last year in which the network will carry the awards show. Since 1974, The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has been honoring a variety of categories, including daytime dramas, talk shows, instructional programming, hosting, and legal/courtroom programs. In 2021, NATAS and the Television Academy jointly announced plans to realign the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards to be organized by content genre, as opposed to program airtime. In addition, in recognition of the marked increase in content and entries for children’s programming, 2022 will mark the first annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, with relevant categories separating from the Daytime Emmys into their own competition and ceremony. All awards are judged by a pool of peer professionals from across the television industry. Sharp and Steve Ulrich are executive producers from NATAS, while David McKenzie is executive producer from ATI. 10. CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” (3.672 million) came roaring back during the week of April 18-22, 2022, matching in total audience with the week of January 17-21, 2022 for its best overall performance since the week of January 3-7, 2022. The soap gained +249,000 viewers week to week and was up +448,000 viewers compared to the same week last year. Year to year, "Y&R" was flat in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating, tying for third place in Women 18-49 rating with "The Bold and the Beautiful" and "TODAY 3rd Hour," each with a 0.4 rating, and tying for second place in Women 25-54 rating with "B&B" and the first half-hour of "The Price is Right," each with a 0.7 rating. The two half hours of “The Price is Right” (4.795 million/4.212 million) attracted their largest overall audiences since the week of February 21-25, 2022 and “The Talk” (1.536 million) had its best audience since the week of March 28-April 1, 2022. Meanwhile, both half hours of “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.772 million/2.421 million) were the only daytime broadcast series to lose viewers week to week while the second half-hour was down a mere -8,000 viewers compared to the same week last year. “The Bold and the Beautiful” (3.213 million) hit a new season high in Total Viewers and attracted its largest overall audience since the week of April 20-24, 2020, the final week of pre-pandemic originals. The series tied for third place with “Y&R” and “TODAY 3rd Hour” in Women 18-49, each with a 0.4 rating. In Women 25-54, “B&B” tied for second place with “Y&R” and the first half-hour of “The Price is Right,” each with a 0.7 rating. Compared to its performance in 2020 (3.2136 million vs 3.275 million), “B&B” also managed to hold onto most of its total audience during a period in which TV viewing was reaching multi-year highs. The soap was down a mere -62,000 viewers compared to two years earlier. “The View” (1.583 million) aired reruns all week but still managed to attract more viewers than “The Talk,” and beat the first half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal,” “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.594 million) and “The Talk” in Women 18-49 rating. “The View” tied for sixth place in Women 18-49 with a 0.3 rating to the latter three shows’ 0.2 rating. “GMA3: What You Need to Know” again placed last in Women 25-54, and tied for last place with the aforementioned “The Talk” and the first half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” in Women 18-49 rating. “The View” was officially retitled to “VIEW-ABC” which means its figures for the week will not count into the show’s season average. Despite “The View” being in reruns, “General Hospital” (2.180 million) managed to increase by +71,000 viewers week to week. The soap also saw gains week to week in Women 25-54, +0.1 in rating, while remaining flat week to week and year to year in Women 18-49 rating. “Days of our Lives” (1.818 million) had its best audience showing since the week of January 31-February 4, 2021, the final week of originals aired before going on a two-week hiatus due to NBC’s airing of the Winter Olympic Games. What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of April 18-22, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2020 and 2021 (where available), respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted soon. Notes: Viewing levels were hitting multi-year highs in 2020 during the initial shutdown of the country due to COVID-19. Year-to-year comparisons (2022 vs 2021) among Households and Total Viewers will be back beginning with next week’s report (week of April 25-29, 2022). Households and Total Viewers for “TODAY 3rd Hour” were not available at press time which currently skews the rankings in those categories. Comparable 2020 figures for “GMA3: What Need to Know” are based on the performance of “Pandemic: What You Need to Know.” The current iteration was rebranded effective June 2020. For the second time this month, “The Bold and the Beautiful” hit a new season high in Total Viewers and attracted its largest overall audience since the week of April 20-24, 2020, the final week of pre-pandemic originals. During the week of April 18-22, 2022, the half-hour daytime drama series averaged 3.213 million viewers, placing it in fourth place behind only the second and first half hours of “The Price is Right” (4.795 million/4.212 million) and “The Young and the Restless (3.672 million). 15. When Sean Blakemore announced in February that he would be leaving ABC’s “General Hospital,” citing “other obligations” as the reason, many wondered what would be next for the Daytime Emmy Award-winning actor. Turns out he has been cast as a lead in the second season of Freeform’s “Cruel Summer” which debuted last year and is now being billed as an anthology series beginning with its second season, premiering later this year on the network. In Season 2, “Cruel Summer” will be set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest and will follow the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship. Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan (Sadie Stanley), Isabella (Eloise Payet) and Megan’s best friend Luke (Griffin Gluck), the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward. Blakemore will play Sheriff Myer, an old-fashioned law-and-order type, under pressure to solve the first major crime in Chatham. Also starring in the series will be KaDee Strickland (“Private Practice”) as Debbie, Megan’s hardworking single mom who thinks hosting Isabella will open Megan’s eyes to a bigger world than their small town. Lisa Yamada (“Little Fires Everywhere”) is Parker, a popular musician who becomes more cynical as the world takes a dark turn around her. Paul Adelstein (“True Story”) will recur as Steve Chambers, Luke’s high-profile dad, whose influence in town is far-reaching. “Cruel Summer” comes from studio eOne and was created by Bert V. Royal. Elle Triedman serves as showrunner. Executive producers include Triedman, Bill Purple, Tia Napolitano, and Iron Ocean Productions’ Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple. The series is distributed internationally by eOne. The first season of “Cruel Summer” was a critical and ratings hit, making it Freeform’s most-watched series in network history. 16. Less than a month into its launch, Warner Bros. Discovery announced today that it is shutting down CNN+, the streaming subscription service that was supposed to enhance the cable news network’s offerings with live, on-demand and interactive programming, including a whole new way to engage journalism and storytelling together. At a monthly cost of $5.99, early adopters who signed up within the first four weeks after the March 29 launch would have access to CNN+ at a “Deal of a Lifetime” price offer, or 50% off the monthly plan – for life – as long as they remain subscribers. With the service shutting down effective April 30, it’s unclear what value those subscribers will be getting now, or whether refunds will be provided to those eligible. “This decision is in line with WBD’s broader direct-to-consumer strategy,” said Chris Licht, the incoming CEO of CNN, in a statement to Variety, which first reported the news. “In a complex streaming market, consumers want simplicity and an all-in service, which provides a better experience and more value than stand-alone offerings.” He added, “We have very exciting opportunities ahead in the streaming space and CNN, one of the world’s premier reputational assets, will play an important role there.’’ CNN plans to put more of its focus on CNN Digital, with Licht stating the end of CNN+ was not a reflection of the quality of the service while thanking those who helped develop and curate content for the soon-to-be-defunct streamer. “We appreciate all of the work, ambition and creativity that went into building CNN+, an organization with terrific talent and compelling programming. But our customers and CNN will be best served with a simpler streaming choice,” he said. Reportedly, CNN+ was able to capture 100,000 to 150,000 subscribers in its first few weeks with such programs as “5 Things” and “Reliable Sources Daily” being the standout performers. According to Deadline, Andrew Morse will leave the company with the end of CNN+. He was in charge of the service and was the Chief Digital Officer at CNN. Alex MacCallum, CNN Worldwide, Head of Product/General Manager CNN+, will lead CNN Digital. 17. Vanessa Mathison, the real-life wife of actor Cameron Mathison, will make her acting debut on the Thursday, April 21 episode of ABC’s “General Hospital.” She’ll be playing the role of Mia opposite her husband, who plays Drew Cain on the daytime drama series. Mia is described as an executive coach who meets with Drew. “I hope you check it out and show her some love,” said the “GH” star of his wife on Instagram as he shared a series of behind-the-scenes photos from the day she filmed, including a video of her stepping onto the set and starting her acting journey. “I have to say… [executive producer] Frank Valentini made the character of Drew a reality for me, and now he has made Vanessa’s dream come true as well,” noted Mathison of his wife. “Vanessa has been a ‘GH’ fan her whole life! When I met her I was Ryan on ‘All My Children’ and she had no idea who I was… she only watched ‘GH’ (yes, especially you @jackwagnerofficial). Look at you now @vanessa.mathison So thank you Frank, and thank you to every single cast and crew that was so kind to Vanessa on her big day. I love you guys.” “I did it! I did it!” said an ecstatic Mathison after filming her scenes. “It was so amazing, so surreal. So exciting, I can’t believe it,” she added when her husband asked about her experience. He chimed in, saying, “Now I’m no longer the biggest soap star in our family.” “General Hospital” marks Vanessa Mathison’s acting debut. She’s previously appeared as herself numerous times alongside her husband on “Entertainment Tonight,” “Home & Family” and the two co-starred in “Cameron’s House Rules,” a W Network original series aired in Canada. 18. Two months since it was revealed that the role of Summer Newman was being recast, “The Young and the Restless” has officially hired daytime newcomer Allison Lanier who will make her on-screen debut later next month on the drama series. She takes over the role last played by Hunter King (“Life in Pieces,” “Hollywood Heights”). Photo by Johnny Vy/CBS Word of Lanier’s casting comes just as Summer’s better half, Kyle Abbott, is set to return to Genoa City beginning Monday, April 25 with Michael Mealor reprising the role. Kyle’s return is centered on the revelation that his long believed to be dead mother, Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters), is actually alive and that she faked her death years earlier despite a lengthy investigation by the GCPD to determine who killed her as her death had been ruled a homicide at the time. The culprit ended up being Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) who was later exonerated for the crime as she was able to prove she “killed” Diane in self-defense. In recent episodes, Diane explained she faked her death in order to escape from her actions during that period. At the time, the role of Diane was played by Maura West (now Ava Jerome on “General Hospital”). On the Monday, April 18 episode of “The Talk,” Peter Bergman who plays Jack Abbott, Kyle’s father, teased “[Kyle] and I are probably not going to see eye to eye on the best way to handle this thing [referring to Diane]. I think there is going to be a lot of tension there.” Thankfully with Summer presumably by his side, Kyle should be able to figure out the best way to handle this life-changing situation stronger than ever before. Prior to making her broadcast television debut as Summer on “Y&R,” Lanier previously recurred in the Amazon Original series “Red Oaks,” playing the role of Annabelle in six episodes of the series. She was also featured in “It Happened in L.A.,” an official selection screened at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017. More recently, the actress appeared in the indie films “Mia” and “Fish Bones.” In addition to acting, Lanier is also an artist who most recently resided in Brooklyn, New York before relocating to Los Angeles. You can follow her on Instagram @allisonvlanier. 19. For the week of April 11-15, 2022, CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” (3.068 million) ranked third in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating, tied with “The Young and the Restless” (3.423 million) and “TODAY 3rd Hour” (1.981 million) in both demographics. “The View” (2.353 million) also tied for third place in Women 18-49 rating. Compared to its performance one week earlier, the half-hour soap was down -111,000 viewers week-to-week while losing the least amount of viewers across daytime broadcast compared to the show’s performance in 2020, down just -115,000 viewers. Both half hours of “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.517 million/2.912 million) gained viewers week-to-week, more than any other daytime broadcast series, with an average of +132,000 more viewers for each half-hour compared to one week earlier. “Days of our Lives” (1.664 million) added +73,000 week-to-week and “The Talk” (1.486 million) gained +57,000 viewers. Losing the least amount of viewers week-to-week was “General Hospital” (2.109 million), down just -8,000 viewers compared to one week earlier. Compared to its performance in 2020, “GH” is down -328,000 viewers, the second smallest drop across daytime broadcast, and behind only “B&B.” “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” (1.456 million) ranked last in Total Viewers, falling below both “The Talk” and “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.579 million). The third hour of “Good Morning America” tied “The Talk” for last place in Women 18-49, each with a 0.2 rating, and ranked last overall in Women 25-54 with a 0.3 rating in the demo. Since its 2020 debut, the series is down significantly from where it started, albeit its losses compared to two years earlier are nothing compared to the significant audience erosion experienced by both half hours of “The Price is Right” (4.064 million/4.611 million), the aforementioned “Let’s Make a Deal,” and both “TODAY 3rd Hour” and “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna.” What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of April 11-15, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2020 and 2021 (where available). A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted soon. Notes: Starting with this week’s report, we will no longer be sharing unrounded figures for the Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 demographics. All data points, with the exception of Total Viewers, will be rounded up/down to the nearest tenth. Viewing levels were hitting multi-year highs in 2020 during the initial shutdown of the country due to COVID-19. Year-to-year comparisons (2022 vs 2021) among Households and Total Viewers are currently unavailable due to a gap in data being shared with Soap Opera Network one year earlier. Comparable 2020 figures for “GMA3: What Need to Know” are based on the performance of “Pandemic: What You Need to Know.” The current iteration was rebranded effective June 2020. 20. I'm joking. I'm not implying the show is celebrating its anniversary anytime soon (that'll happen next year March). The 50th anniversary of one show is bigger than the 35th anniversary of another. Obviously, with COVID still being a factor, the more elaborate anniversary coverage is not possible yet but don't believe for a minute that B&B won't go big (bigger) for its 40th (when it reaches that number in 2027).
  21. The show debuted in the 70s and is currently in its 50th season (as of March 26, 2022). Sorry, that's the only way I could make it make sense.
  22. On the Monday, April 18 episode of “The Talk,” actors Susan Walters and Peter Bergman from “The Young and the Restless” appeared, talking about the recent revelation of Diane Jenkins (played by Walters) being alive. In addition to Walters and Bergman sharing some tidbits about what’s to come and how the storyline came about, co-host Natalie Morales let it slip that fans can expect to see Michael Mealor back as Kyle Abbott, son of Diane and Jack Abbott (Bergman), beginning Monday, April 25. When Morales asked how the story will play out with Kyle learning his mother is alive, Bergman responded, saying, “I think that is probably central to my joy in Susan coming back. The fellow that plays my son, Michael Mealor, is a brilliant young actor, he’s terrific! He and I are probably not going to see eye to eye on the best way to handle this thing (referring to Diane). I think there is going to be a lot of tension there.” During Bergman’s comments, Morales said, “He’s back on Monday, I hear, right?” referring to the Monday, April 25 episode of “The Young and the Restless.” Until today’s appearance on “The Talk,” Mealor’s return date had not been officially announced. Last month, it was revealed Mealor had signed a long-term contract with the daytime drama series after leaving the series last August. “Of course, I’ll always be back when they call,” Mealor told to Digest last year, citing his love for the show and working with the people he’s worked alongside all these years. Making his “Y&R” debut in 2018, Mealor most recently appeared in an episode of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” for FXX. Watch more from Bergman and Walters’ appearance on “The Talk” below. 23. Oddly, even though I generally get a heads up of who will be appearing on The Talk days before they appear, neither show promotes the appearance until hours before. A day before if we're lucky. I inquired about this and they really want to put the snooze button on promoting it. I guess it works out for them that way.
  24. While the show’s current 12th season has performed sluggishly in the ratings, often ranking last in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54, CBS’ “The Talk” will be back for a 13th season, the network announced during today’s live broadcast of the series. “The producers are just telling me there is some breaking news,” shared co-host Natalie Morales who joined the panel in October 2021. “This is just coming in right now, ‘The Talk’ has been renewed for Season 13.” Following audience cheers and drops of virtual confetti onto the show’s set, Akbar Gbajabiamila said, “That was crazy, this feels so good.” Meanwhile, Jerry O’Connell joked, “Now I know why all our bosses showed up today.” Gbajabiamila joined the panel in early September 2021, just days before the show’s current season premiered. He became the show’s second-ever male co-host following O’Connell’s joining as the first male co-host in July 2021. In addition to the show’s renewal, all five co-hosts will be returning, including the aforementioned Morales, Gbajabiamila, O’Connell, Amanda Kloots and Sheryl Underwood. Kloots joined the panel in January 2021 and Underwood has been with the show since the show’s second season. In early March it was announced that Underwood would be staying at “The Talk” for at least three more seasons (bringing the show to season 15), in addition to signing a two-year first-look development deal with CBS Studios. Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Sheryl Underwood, Jerry O’Connell and Natalie Morales (“The Talk”) Courtesy of WATCH Magazine Behind the scenes, executive producers Heather Gray and Kristin Matthews will also be back. Today’s renewal for “The Talk” came earlier than last year’s, showing a vote of confidence from the network now that all decks are steadily in place moving forward. Last June, when announcing the show’s then 12th season pickup, the talk show had been down two co-hosts following the controversial departure of Sharon Osbourne and the ongoing hiatus of Carrie Ann Inaba. In February, “The Talk” hit a season high in Total Viewers with the show’s best performance since April 2020 when it hit 1.662 million viewers. The show is one of few bubble talk shows this season to get another season. Nearly a dozen other shows, particularly those airing in national syndication, have been canceled and won’t be returning next season, including “The Wendy Williams Show,” “The Nick Cannon Show,” “Maury,” “The Good Dish,” and “Dr. Oz,” among others. Season 12 of “The Talk” will remain in production through August 5, 2022. Since its debut in October 2010, the show has won 14 Daytime Emmy Awards (Outstanding Talk Show Entertainment 2016, 2018; writing 2015; host 2017) out of 58 nominations. The 13th season of “The Talk” is expected to premiere sometime in early September 2022. Watch the pickup announcement from today’s episode of “The Talk” below.
