Joshua f**king Morrow. WOW! Seriously, his best work since Cassie's death is being done in this storyline, and it's really making me verklempt watching him. I know he's not interested in the Daytime Emmys, but whew... I'd love for him to take a chance again, because he has been doing some award-worthy work.

The “it’s just a soap” excuse only goes so far.. especially for a show like Y&R where the bar was always set so high. I’d be willing to go along with that with shows like Passions or even Days but it’s never been Y&R’s style to be this sloppy.. and I enjoy the campy, silly stuff in soaps too don’t get me wrong. I just wish these writers respected these soaps individual identities instead of just trashing their legacy to get a little bump in ratings here and there.

The problem is that they never even told a real story to begin with so it all felt like it was wrapped up and completed within the few weeks with that car chase in L.A (or whatever that was). So when Matt kept popping back up after that.. everyone’s like, why is he still here? If they played all the right beats and had a slow build up to his reveal, etc then I could totally see him being on screen for months more to come. It was just executed so poorly from the jump that it doesn’t make any sense to still have him.

I don't begrudge Roger Howarth joining Y&R, especially in today's economy. But I really wish he hadn't gone on a press run about this role because it's so underwhelming and frankly boring. Matt's resurrection (his latest) and endless escapades since have been head-scratching. There was clearly never a story in place beyond stunt casting and going through the archives for a villain.

Wait, they DROVE to Switzerland?

Say what?

What has happened to Bill Bell's show? It's a question I ask myself every few weeks. I zone out so many times, wondering why I still bother.

Loved the interview and I agree with the people who are saying this has been some of JM’s best work since Cassie’s death. I have been enjoying it and kind of shocked to see him crying real tears when he broke down to Victor and Nikki about his struggles. I think JM is a great actor, they just don’t tend to give him the most challenging material. Hes usually just supporting his female counterparts in their stories (Sharon, Phyllis usually). So I’m sure he has enjoyed having a story of his own to play.

It's a question I've been asking for nearly 20 years.

I consider John Abbott death in August 2006 the end of Y&R as we knew it.

It's the same with introducing new families and POC. At a time when Y&R needed both desperately, Mal Young introduced the Rosaleses. But he set them up for failure immediately by not introducing them in a more gradual fashion. Subsequently, it seems as if TPTB have become skittish about introducing anyone new that isn't tied to the Abbotts and/or Newmans.

And the shame of it is Sasha Calle has turned out to be a very strong actress in films. I don't know if she was ever suited for daytime, but the OTT push with those characters is what poisoned the well.

I agree! Y&R needed (and still needs) new blood, but it was just too much, too fast.

Sasha Calle and Loren Lott went on to bigger and better things.

Beyond poor characterization and odd shoehorning into stories, the Rosales family was also strange for another reason: it felt like the show was trying to “replace” the Winters group—CK was in weird contract negotiations (related to Goddard finally being let go?) and Kristoff was essentially placed on CLB, TB, and DD style recurring before his passing. Yes, Ana and Nate returned and Devon was around, but their stories and airtime felt inconsistent.
