Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Whoopi Goldberg, The View

ABC’s top rated daytime talk show “The View” is returning for Season 29 beginning Monday, September 8, the network announced on Monday with a promo touting the countdown is on with all six hosts, including Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro, coming back for another season.

News of the show’s return comes weeks after social media was ablaze with unfounded reports that it had been canceled after comments made by Joy Behar on the Thursday, July 24 broadcast were purposely misinterpreted by certain bloggers and so-called influencers who take issue with the show’s premise.

“Before we go on hiatus, we only have one more show after this, I’m allowed to say that, right?” asked Behar, one day before the show aired what would be its final broadcast of Season 28 (Friday, July 25). That minor slipup by Behar sparked a slew of media reports and video responses across YouTube, TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), among other social media platforms, declaring the show was canceled, with many citing her use of the word “hiatus” to mean that the show would not be returning, particularly as it came soon after her comments during a Hot Topics segment on the Wednesday, July 23 episode where the hosts were discussing President Doanld Trump alleging that former president Obama “was trying to lead a coup.”

“First of all, who tried to overthrow the government on January 6. Who was that again? That was not Obama,” said Behar, referencing the January 6, 2021 insurrection that took place at the United States Capitol. “The thing about him is he’s so jealous of Obama, because Obama is everything that he is not: Trim, smart, handsome, happily married, and can sing Al Green’s song ‘Let’s Stay Together’ better than Al Green. And Trump cannot stand it. It’s driving him crazy.”

In response to Behar’s comments, a spokesperson for the White House stated to Entertainment Weekly, proclaiming that the talk show could be “pulled off the air” because of Behar, who they called an “irrelevant loser.”

“Joy Behar is an irrelevant loser suffering from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome,” said White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers, who also falsely claimed the talk show had “hit [its] lowest ratings” in years, while concluding that Behar “should self-reflect on her own jealousy of President Trump’s historic popularity before her show is the next to be pulled off air,” indirectly referencing CBS’ decision to cancel “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

For context, during the 2024-2025 television season, “The View” was up in Total Viewers (+5% – 2.547 million vs. 2.429 million) and Women 18-49 (+3% – 151,000 vs. 147,000) versus the comparable weeks last season (2023-2024), which marked the show’s most-watched season in four years — since the 2020-2021 season. Additionally, the show ranked No. 1 in Households (1.72 rating) and Total Viewers (2.547 million) among all network daytime talk shows and news programs for the 5th straight season, outrating the likes of “TODAY 3rd Hour,” “TODAY with Jenna & Friends,” “GMA3” and “NBC News Daily.”

According to 1iota, the online ticketing firm that handles requests to attend live tapings for talk shows, game shows, screenings and premieres, as well as fan experiences (awards shows/singing competitions), premiere week for “The View” will feature a multitude of guests, including Emma Hemming Willis, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, actors America Ferrera and Michael Urie, among others.

Horrible show.  The curse of Baba Wawa continues.  Trump should do one good thing for TV, instead of destroying decent shows like CBS' 60 Minutes and The Late Show, he should have destroyed ABC's The View.
