The Danielle Dupree Appreciation Space (Dani, KaMo)

We are now at Week 3 & it has become apparent that there's no room for Friends of Danielle Dupree or FODD, pronounced fahd. As I am def FODD I thought now would be a good time to make this space. If you'd suggested to me on Week 1 that this would be a Minority Rapport, I'd have laughed right in your face. But this is writ loud & large. So be it.

From First Lines by Alan

Dani: "Morning, Vanessa."

Vanessa: "Well so much for, 'Stop by for a cup of coffee.'"

Chelsea: "Hey mom, what's up?"

Other Dani related lines

Dani to Hayley: "The fairy tell never tells you how Prince Charming can become a real son-of-a-b!tch, once that ring goes on your finger."

"Who are you? What have you done with Dani? You've picked a heckuva time to start worrying about what other people think!" - Vanessa, BTG, S1E1, 2-24-25

"I'll be healthy again as soon as a couple of cheaters pay." - Dani, BTG, S1E1, 2-25-25

"One of the things I have learned from my patients: People are born who they are. Outside influence either takes or it doesn't. Dani is exactly herself: A force of nature with no apologies." - Nicole, BTG, S1E1 2-24-25

"You need to remember who you are - a Dupree woman - we never give our power away, to anyone. Tap into that legacy. Find your inner strength & stop letting those losers get the best of you." - Anita to Dani, BTG, S1E1, 2-24-25

"Some people deserve to get a punch in the face." - Martin, BTG, S1E2, 2-25-25

"Nothing to be proud of. I hated seeing my daughter pushed to the point where she would think that hitting someone was the appropriate action. Physical violence is never the answer." - Vernon, BTG, S1E2, 2-25-25

"That's the advantage of a big heart. There's room for lots of types." - Andre, BTG, S1E5, 2-28-25

"I am out of the mortifying Dani business." - Dani, BTG, S1E2, 2-25-25

"I don't yell." - Anita "You don't have to. Your tone tells it all." - Dani, BTG, S1E2, 2-25-25

"I don't ordinarily condone violence. But, at times, people deserve a sucker punch. … Try not to make a habit of it." - Anita to Dani, BTG, S1E2, 2-25-25

"Honey, I wasn't just a star - I was a meteor." - Dani, BTG, S1E5, 2-28-25

"You know what they say: the past is prologue." - Dani to Hayley, BTG, S1E3, 2-26-25

"What did I do to deserve this level of disregard from a man I spent most of my life catering to?" - Dani, BTG, S1E2, 2-25-25

Pamela, Cady, Dani's BFF:

Fri. Feb. 28 dialogue when Cady's character Pamela arrived at the wedding:

Dani: I didn’t think you would make it.

Pamela: I cut my trip short. You’re my best friend. There’s no way I’d let you face this night without being here in full support.

(At the bar after the wedding, Dani has just ordered a drink, and Pamela arrives.)

Dani: Pamela, if you're here to criticize my behavior or tell me how ridiculous I looked...

Pamela:  I said that I would be here for you today, and *I* dropped the ball.   I should have been a better friend. I should have stopped you before things got out of control. But I am here now.   So put me in, Coach.  Need me to run interference, slash a tire, burn a bridge? I'm your ride-or-die.

(Dani's phone is vibrating while Pamela is speaking.)

Dani: Okay.

Pamela:  And if you need me to, uh, pretend that the bar isn't vibrating from all the texts you're getting, I can do that, too.

(Dani reads her text.)

Pamela: What can do, Dani?

(Dani asks Pamela to pay for the drink that Dani had ordered but not yet received, because Dani has to leave now to face the Duprees.)

(Dani and Pamela hug.)

Pamela: Well, good luck.

Dani: Love you.

Pamela: Love you back.

"You're a Dupree, as your family likes to remind everyone at the drop of a hat." - Bill to Dani, BTG S1E5

I'm in love with this, whatever it is, that Dani is wearing in this classic scene. Is it a coat? Is it an overdress? Is it a dress? I don't know what it is but I love it. I thought I would be all about the 27 sets but instead I'm about Wardrobe & the legendary Jeresa Featherstone.

"Since she's never announced her bad behavior in advance." - Anita, BTG, S1E10
"I will remember that for next time." - Dani, hearing Anita as she enters the room, BTG, S1E10
"I realize that none of this was fair to any of you. I put you all in an impossible situation & still you backed me up. Nicole was clinical. Daddy was kind. Mother was matter of fact. Chelsea was blunt. Naomi was funny. You all said it. And, still I couldn't hear it; I couldn't feel it; until today. My marriage is dead & I am finally ready to bury it. It's really, finally, absolutely over." - Dani, BTG, S1E10

And, to illustrate how important Wardrobe is on this, our new favorite soap, Dani's handgun seems to match & complement her attire. That's not something you see every day. (Trying to make this picture part of appreciation rather than criticism.) I love looking at the facial expressions in this scene.

    • I like this Jordan, now. I didn't at first, but she got better. I just loved it that she told Curtis he needed to confide in someone else, not her! About him & his wife. I had been saying just that to the TV minutes before. Often I feel she is painfully underwritten but in a way maybe that's par for the course for blacks on this soap. I think there are other examples.
    • I think it was largely done because they championed OLTL (even when it didn't deserve it) and saw the shows as up against each other in terms of which would be cancelled, so seemed to think any success AMC had would put OLTL in danger.
    • I think June is the kids' mother and potentially Leslie's sister. There's enough story thre especially given Martin's feelings towards Leslie. It would make things even messier if he killed her husband, further intertwining her into his life
    • Same. And you know I've been trying my best with Y&R and how I feel about GH.

Also same.    Amen. And not alone in that minority.  I'm still wondering if that was a good drop off point for him all day. In a way...it truly is given what Ted and Eva's arc has been so far. But I will miss Maurice all the same.
    • This is probably more for the classic thread, but for me this type of writing starts ramping up around the time of Taggert's arrival, where a character pays lip service to Sonny's flaws but there is no real analysis and we are ultimately meant to be on his side. And I think it just accelerates, as there always gotchas and outs. Like Laura blaming Sonny for Lucky's "death" when we knew Helena was responsible. It's the type of writing I find most manipulative because they play audience criticisms against them.
    • I hope none of the theories of about June amount to anything and she just goes away. There’s nothing interesting about the story or character, and I think fans are constantly looking for deeper connections in everything.
    • You hit the nail on the head.  Nope, you are not alone. I like her too.
    • Out of these, I hope she isn't connected to Samantha and Tyrell. I just don't see a long term story there. I hadn't thought of a connection to Leslie but now that you bring it up...what if we find out June is Haley's sister and both were abandoned and raised in foster care. June ended up on the streets and Haley ended up with the Duprees. The mother who dumped them in foster care? Leslie. If they end up making Eva a stolen child of Nicole's, it would be a good way to develop some family for Leslie to help keep her on the canvas. She could ultimately make up with her kids and then she'd have access to Bill's money/power which could help her become a long term rival for the Duprees.
    • This was a HUGE story on the show for many years. Justin (Ross's brother) and Jackie Marler were Phillip's real parents. They showed a lot of the backstory in flashback when Jackie came on the show. Jackie caught Justin in bed with another woman. She was so devastated she divorced him immediately. She found out she was pregnant. I'm a little hazy on this--I THINK she told him she had an abortion, but maybe not. Maybe she just never told him she was pregnant. Anyway, she decided to give the baby up for adoption. She went to Europe (I think it was Amsterdam) to have the baby. She had the same doctor as Elizabeth Spaulding, who also was pregnant. The doctor was a personal friend of Alan's. He told Alan that Elizabeth's baby would be born dead and she would not be able to have more children. Instead of telling his wife the truth, Alan conspired with the doctor to do a baby switch. The doctor knew Jackie was planning to give her baby up, and she agreed to let the Spauldings have Phillip. Elizabeth woke up from the surgery and was told Jackie's baby was hers. Jackie almost immediately regretted it. She insinuated herself into Alan and Elizabeth's life so she could be near Phillip. They all became good friends. When Alan and Elizabeth returned to the states, they stayed with Jackie at first. Eventually, Alan and Elizabeth divorced and Jackie married him so she could be Phillip's stepmother. It was a disatrous marriage and they also divorced.  Justin found out the truth. Justin and Jackie remarried. Elizabeth found out and wanted them to have custody of Phillip. Alan, of course, was furious but for some odd reason eventually agreed to it. (He did not know at the time Justin and Jackie were the bio parents).  Ross and Alan had kind of an up and down relationship over the years. Ross wanted to BE like Alan in the beginning. When he was married to Carrie they were actually close friends with Alan and Hope. Their relationship totally degraded when Alan was chasing Trish Lewis and she chose Ross instead. Yes, and he also did not approve of how Alan dealt with Phillip much of the time. So they never became friends again.
