Beyond the Gates, BTG, Georgia HBCUs Contest

Now that the series has made its long-awaited debut, its Win a Walk-On Role Contest has officially begun with producers of “Beyond the Gates” inviting eligible students from participating Georgia-based HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) to enter for a chance to appear on the soap opera.

Launched on Monday, February 24 at 2:00 p.m. ET (premiere date and time for “Beyond the Gates”), and running through Friday, March 21 at 11:59 p.m. ET, eligible Georgia HBCU students can visit the official contest website to answer a brief quiz about the show and submit a video of themselves talking about what they enjoyed about the show and what it would mean to them to win a walk-on role. Acting experience and training is not required.

“In addition to launching a groundbreaking series, we, and CBS, wanted to offer an aspirational experience for a young adult interested in exploring all things TV,” said Sheila Ducksworth, president of the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, in a statement earlier this month announcing the contest alongside Derrick Johnson, president and CEO of the NAACP. Ducksworth and Johhnson are also executive producers at “Beyond the Gates.”

“We also wanted to pay homage to HBCUs — which have been a guiding force for students, families and communities for almost 200 years — and also thank Georgia for availing so many resources to us for the creation of ‘Beyond the Gates,’” continued Ducksworth. “We hope that we may pique interest in young people who may have dreams that lie either in front of or behind the camera, and we’re excited to review all of the submissions from outstanding HBCU students of Georgia, regardless of major, and have our winner spend a day with us on set.”

The current quiz questions are as follows:

  1. What family is Beyond the Gates centered around?
  2. What fictional community is Beyond the Gates based in?
  3. Who are Anita Dupree’s daughters?
  4. Who was Hayley friends with prior to a terrible falling out?
  5. What happens at the end of Episode 1?

In addition to providing the right answers to the provided questions, submitters will be asked for their first, middle and last name, as well as their date of birth, school email address (must be a valid .edu address), college major, photo number and gender, with the option of sharing social media channels and clubs/organizations they are connected to.

The shows’ executive producers will select a winner, who will have the chance to appear in an episode of the show in the 2025 season. In addition to the potential walk-on experience, the winner will also enjoy a full “Day in the Life” behind-the-scenes experience with the cast and crew as well as a one-on-one conversation with one of the show’s executive producers.

Submissions must accept the official contest rules and the terms and conditions, plus must agree to the Paramount privacy policy, and their terms of use, and acknowledge any submitted content can be used for marking purposes and on any social media channels by CBS/Paramount Global.

For more information about the contest, including contest rules, and to submit yourself for contention, visit the official contest website

    • Really?? You could have fooled me.
    • [Swooon (with three letter o in the name) is a sister site to tvinsider.] May 16, 2025: Stephanie Sloane interviews Tracey Bregman and Christian LeBlanc regarding the Lauren/Michael romance. https://www.swooon.com/1192754/young-and-the-restless-michael-lauren-romance-christian-j-leblanc-tracey-bregman/ There is a video interview of 32:50 length, embedded within the article -- but it's hard to see unless you disable adblockers. Here's a copy of the same video without ads, but it's very slow-loading. It works fine once completely loaded. https://archive.org/details/6ri-7d-54w (I think this interview was done because there will be a little Lauren/Michael romance scene on May 21, 2025 episode.  But the interview isn't tied to that).
    • For the Duprees to be the core family, other non-Dupree characters have brought something more to the table than they have. The two daughters are both victims at this point. Vernon hasn't done a whole lot besides coddle Martin. And I'm not too sure about Anita's singing past being all that interesting either.

    • I actually stopped watching. I find the show really bad at the moment (or at least before I stopped, which was shortly after Sonia and Bianca's exit). And I just saw the overnight ratings for last week, quite bad, below 2 mil.  I don't like the nuMitchells all, I don't care about Avani and Joel, I hate what they have done to Kathy by making her an attempted murderer who is so chill about it, also she is pissed off at Cindy for cheating on Ian, yet she is enabling Harvey cheat on Jean, I don't like Peter and Lauren as a couple, she is always so toxic towards him, making Zach Barney's dad is such a lame decision and plot twist... I found Stacey vs Ruby in the end horrible for Stacey. Firstly she accoused Ruby of burning the stall, then when she learned it was Lily, she was bullying Ruby into not telling anyone and making Ruby leave the square with everyone thinking it was her who did it.. horrible look there for Stacey and Lily, who was such a brat there (I get she was going through a lot, but terrible mothering from Stacey there, to say: sure, you can commit arson, pin it on someone else and get away with it, if you're having tough time in your life). I still hate what they've done with Gina/Freddie/Anna, I think it ruined all three of them, the whole where George was during Cindy's attack was just forgotten, which is sloppy and I just didn't like Terry Cant's rushed return, that was such a let down which led to the rushed exit for Sonia.  So as you can see, I just don't like the show at all

    • LOL...who has time for college? They only went to half a semester, which wasn't really a problem for Mindy, Phillip or Beth. But no wonder Rick became known as Dr Death.
