CBS News on Thursday formally announced the launch of “CBS Mornings Plus,” the long-awaited third hour of its popular “CBS Mornings” broadcast, which will premiere Monday, September 30 on select CBS-owned stations.

According to the network, the third hour will take viewers deeper into the most important headlines of the day, as well as pop culture, entertainment, health, wellness and financial news. “CBS Mornings” co-host Tony Dokoupil will continue in his role during the flagship broadcast while joining Adriana Diaz as co-hosts for the third hour. Dokoupil and Diaz will drive in-depth interviews and original reporting on major news stories each day during the new live hour.

Produced by the current “CBS Mornings” team, the all-new third hour will air at 9:00 a.m. ET/PT on CBS-owned stations in Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Detroit and Miami. “This expansion of ‘CBS Mornings’ shows a commitment to the brand, and I’m excited to see what this team can do with another hour of real estate to experiment with,” said Shawna Thomas, executive producer of “CBS Mornings” and “CBS Mornings Plus.” She added, “People say all the time they wish we had another hour. Now it’s time for us to do something smart with the time that the audience will appreciate.”

Co-hosted by Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson, with Vlad Duthiers as featured host, “CBS Mornings” is the most competitive morning news program in the history of the CBS Television Network with the show beating ABC’s “Good Morning America” a record 61 times with men 25-54 and a record 15 times in adults 25-54, the demographic most important to those who advertise in news, during the 2023-2024 television season.

“CBS Mornings” delivers the best of CBS News and Stations’ original reporting, newsmaker interviews and in-depth storytelling from a state-of-the-art studio in Times Square. In 2022, the show earned the Outstanding Live News Program Emmy Award.

I'll be interested to see how this effects programming in Los Angeles.

Most daytime shows in LA play an hour earlier than on the East Coast.  So, Y&R is at 11:30, followed by B&B at 12:30, and The Talk at 1pm.  With Let's Make a Deal at 9 (where the new 3rd hour of CBS Mornings will go) and Price is Right at 10.

Given that PIR is one of the top-rated CBS daytime shows, I doubt it will move from 10am.  But, I wonder what this means for DEAL, and in the future, for The Gates?  If it pushes everything back an hour, The Gates will go against GH at 2pm, which seems like a bad idea.

Agreed. Currently, "CBS Mornings" is carried twice on KCBS (CBS2) in Los Angeles, first simulcasting the East Coast broadcast from 4:00-6:00 a.m., and then again from 7:00-9:00 a.m. with the local news airing from 5:00-6:00 a.m.

I've sent an inquiry. Will update when I have more.
