Webmaster Errol Posted September 5, 2024 Webmaster Share Posted September 5, 2024 “The Young and the Restless” actress Judith Chapman (Gloria Fisher) is set to direct two productions at the Palm Canyon Theatre in Palm Springs, California this fall. First up is the stage production of “Shunned,” a play by Larry Parr that provides audiences with a realistic portrait of Amish life and philosophy, and the problems facing the community in today’s world, including growing pressure to adapt to changing technologies and curiosity from tourists about how they live their lives. Janice LyndeHoward Wise/JPI Studios Janice Lynde (ex-Leslie Brooks, “The Young and the Restless”) takes on the poignant role of Katherine Yoder, as she brings an exceptional presence to the evocative production that lifts the veil on Amish life, highlighting the universal feeling of isolation faced by its characters. Each performance invites a dialogue about marginalized experiences, challenging societal norms and prompting reflection on the impacts of exclusion. “Shunned” performance dates are Friday, October 4 at 8:00 p.m. PT; Saturday, October 5 at 2:00 p.m. PT; Thursday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m. PT; Saturday, October 12 at 8:00 p.m. PT; and Sunday, October 13 at 2:00 p.m. PT. In “Sundew,” another play written by Larry Parr, we’re introduced to characters who strive to protect the land they believe is the real Biblical Eden from developers as they deal with the spiritual ramifications of ecology after discovering the blossoming of long-extinct plants like the maroon-speckled sundew, and animals, such as the Carolina Parakeet. The play details one’s sacrifice for the protection of the gift of earth while weaving intricate narratives that challenge societal norms, many of which align seamlessly with the themes explored in “Sundew.” The thought-provoking play premieres Saturday, October 5 at 8:00 p.m. PT, with additional performances scheduled for Sunday, October 6 at 2:00 p.m. PT; Friday, October 11 at 8:00 p.m. PT; and Saturday, October 12 at 2:00 p.m. PT.
