GH: August 2024 Discussion Thread

A great episode! 

Loved seeing Brad and Teri. 

Sometimes the background sound aka "music" drives me crazy. No need for that thing all the time.

I am intrigued by the Davis girls dynamics.

Kristina is written as a lunatic. She was obsessing over her sister's baby and how she wants revenge from a woman because she was stupid enough to fall from a hotel window. She could be the antagonist to Molly's normal sister for years. I find this group far more interesting than Carly's kids.

Team John and Ava.

Sam, Anna, Sacha are the three characters I would write out tomorrow.

TH might look more like the woman Jordan is supposed to be, with really short hair. She has the face for it.

I don't care for outdoors scenes for no reason. Jordan and Molly were just talking outside the studio. I'd rather see a real set.

At this point Sonny only works as a b character, Tiso Novotny from Ryan's Hope type. And that is more than enough.

GH is back to being entertaining again with the first two weeks of EK and CVE. Finally saw a ratings spike cause stuff is actually happening. Cliffhangers have returned to push fans to watch the next day. Here's the boost of energy that was lacking from PM's boring conversations era. Not forcing a ton of jarring changes at the drop of a hat. They got right to delivering on drama over needless tinkering with every nook and cranny. It's soapy again. We got stakes. Dialogue hospital is over.

I am a big fan of the Davis Women. I would never call Molly the normal sister. Why you might ask or perhaps why not? Molly is a drama queen. She overreacts at the drop of a hat. TJ the same. Together, Tolly is well overboard on high drama. Kristina is a lot of things. During this pregnancy she has repeatedly performed elaborate mental gymnastics to consider various totally unlikely suppositions. Like Tolly had a fight. OMG what if they break up. And, if they did Molly would have no access to the baby the baby the baby. ABSURD! Even if they broke up, they'd co-parent, but they're not gonna break up. One thing was that with Blaze Kristina was more mature & calmer.

Michael is also a lesbian but you never say nice things about him.

I never cared for Kristina before. I never cared for Mansi on Days. But I love her on GH. She looks like a woman from 2024 and she is never bored or boring in her scenes. But she has acted crazy -in my eyes- in the entire story. I don't mind that, it is needed on a soap and it is a nice contrast to Molly. Vanessa-Meg, Lorie-Leslie, Carrie-Sami style. Kristina and Molly could be next.

OMG, you have nailed me on my bias!!! But, how do you get to Michael being a lesbian? There sre usually not very many male lesbians. IRL I have known a few. I like your idea especially comparing them to Carrie & Sami! On DAYS I miss both of those sistas. I like it like yesterday when the Davis women speak intelligently about each other. Yesterday Molly said, Kristina doesn't always think." That is so true. Kristina thinking is a totally different person than regular time Krissy. It makes her so interesting. Oh, I know, so many people who just hate Kristina & that's that. They're not open to any other thoughts about her. Just that she is like her Dad. And, part of her is like Alexis. Also a part her own person.

But, no, we must have Finola Hughes. She is that good. Just write her better.

I am now keeping Cody. Before he was high up on my cut list. 

Terry's back. We're getting a new/old OB/GYN. That's 2 new docs. Both women. 

Of the kids I could lose Georgie, also Jake, Absolutely do away with Vile-ette. The sooner the better. Do not bring Charlotte back. I do not care that she is Lulu's. She is a devil spawn. Be okay to let Scout go. 

We must keep Rocko, Leo, James & Danny. 

Why can't I think of people to cut?!!!

May I ask why those three? I feel like Anna is the one to keep (due to her Veteran status) and Sam has been cool since leaving the Gruesome Threesome Hour world. Sasha is meh. I like her sticking around because she isn't a blood relative to any of the main families but, at the same time, she could be cut.

My "cut" list changes often, and I'm going to say it: cutting recurring players does nothing for this soap, because it is the regulars that need to go. At this point, this is my cut list from the series regulars (or demote to recurring, which could also leave to them being cut altogether):

Here is my prediction for what happens to Lulu. The doctors tell Laura that Lulu will never wake up and is only being kept alive by machines. They ask Laura to turn the machines off. Laura decides she will let Lulu die but wants Lulu's family around her when the machines are turned off. Charlotte must be found while Lucky and Ethan need to come back to town. Once that is achieved, Nikolas will get a temporary release from prison to be at Lulu's bedside. When Laura, Lucky, Ethan, Dante, Nikolas, Charlotte, and Rocco are all present in front of Lulu, they say goodbye to her and then turn the machines off. Lulu then wakes up!

Out of these I'd only cut Dex, Cody, Sasha, Gio, Chase, and Curtis.   I'd recast Brook Lynn and Josslyn.  I think they are important characters.  Willow, Drew, and Maxie have been on my list for a long time, but they have improved.  

I'd add

Violet

Brennan

Jagger (who I assume is on his way out)

Jordan

Natalia

Michael (I'd eventually recast)

Sam (I don't really mind her much, I just don't think she adds anything to the show)

I get where you are coming from dumping Sonny/Jason, but it would never happen and I actually think it would hurt the show.   We may all hate them here, but I know they both have a decent sized fanbase.  I think you obviously could dump one but not both.  I wouldn't mind them recurring or Sonny taking a long, long trip to Rome to figure out his life and coming back later on.

That was one of their better ones lol!

I would cut Robert. He is barely on anymore. Brennan is now on contract, and having two Australian WSB guys on the show is redundant. Molly is also on contract. Molly is the show's prosecutor, so there is no longer a need for Robert as the D.A.

Oh I forgot Diane!  I would absolutely cut her.  I can't stand her and her Talbots suits!

Cutting would eventually lead to recasts for Brook Lynn & Josslyn, yes, but cutting those roles needs to happen for that to happen from my POV. Unless Briana Lane can quickly come in for BLQ, then the role can stay.

Violet & Natalia are recurring... so I didn't count recurring, as they're only paid-per-appearance, so those cuts would be futile in my eyes. I'm about cutting those signed to deals. And, in that regard, it could also mean [some] recurring Veterans (ie: John J. York, Jon Lindstrom, Lynn Herring) would potentially sign deals. Michael I'm OK with Chad Duell staying so long as the wriring for the role improved, or they can get Robert Adamson to sign on full-time. And Adam J. Harrington is recurring, so I didn't include him because of how I regarded recurring players.

Yup; it's a unrealistic "wish," although Burton has walked so his exit would be easier to script.

Once again, recurring is futile to cut. They're on a pay-per-appearance status. So, if he's not being written for, then he's not being paid and that money goes elsewhere. And wow.. what a piss-poor generalization to say "having two Australian WSB guys on the show is redundant." Gross POV to have, honestly.
