Somewhere I think Hamner & Co. really missed the boat with developing the wine country setting theme, especially by not having the a rival family like the Agrettis and/or Rossiniโs involved as a major rival to FC in the wine industry i.e. Angela & Melissa along with some other rival regularly compete in wine competitions, more down to earth drama like land and/or drought issues, and along with more a focus on classism drama that we saw in Season 1.
But itโs also obvious that CBS put on the pressure to include more of the San Francisco and New Globe angle as well as pressure to compete with Dynasty and well; alas we ended up as @kalbir pointed out James Bond-esque stories which of course gave way to going full on campy action-adventure mystery as the series progressed.
