Yes, she’s spoken about her love for the Supremes and Motown in the past. Once they gave Anita a girl group background, it was inevitable that it would be inspired by the Supremes in some way. They are still by far the most influential girl group in history and their story is rich in drama (hence why we also have Dreamgirls). The way they were marketed and their cross-cultural pop appeal set a standard for almost every female pop act that followed. The Supremes (when led by Diana) scored 12 #1 Hot 100 hits in just over 5 years from 1964-1969 - that’s STILL a record for any American act to this day. -

Mm-hmm; she even stated this story is Supremes-inspired, and that Anita was storied after Diana Ross, in terms of her role within the group. -
MVJ herself used to be in a real-life girl group called the Articulettes. MVJ wrote two songs for Deniece Williams. I think it's interesting that Anita's maiden name is Williams - not uncommon but still. MVJ said in interviews that Diana Ross is one of the inspirations for Anita, in Variety and L.A.Times -

Yeah they have no younger generation that are basically related to one another cause of Liam. Finn was amazing today! Sinn out there proving why they're a Super Couple(I don't GAF if someone thinks they are or not lol) Sheila throwing Luna under the bus to Deacon LMAO.
