Designated Survivor: Discussion Thread

The show marks Kiefer Sutherland's return to TV and has gotten a direct-to-series order.

"In the show, Sutherland plays a U.S. Cabinet member who becomes president after an attack during the State of the Union kills those above him in the presidential line of succession. It’s described as a conspiracy tale wrapped around a family drama."

Sounds interesting. I giggled at him playing a President when he spent more than a decade playing a character that protects presidents.

It sounds like he is playing Laura Roslin, only dumbified and sentimentalized with the family drama nonsense.    Laura was a great character, she was Sec. of Education, something like 36th in line for the presidency, but the other 35 got wiped out and the job became hers.

Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning actor Kiefer Sutherland (“24”) returns to primetime in a conspiracy thriller as Tom Kirkman, a lower-level cabinet member who unexpectedly becomes president after a devastating attack on Washington. He will struggle to prevent the country and his own family from falling into chaos, as he is thrust into one of the most difficult presidencies in history.
