63rd Primetime Emmy Awards

I forgot this was here.

Very low-energy show. Jane Lynch was given poor material and just isn't the best choice for a host. I was put off by how much they gave her that involved her joking about being a lesbian. She's more than that. The opening number was interminable, and more than a little strange. I was baffled about Leonard Nimoy's involvement, although now I see that it was because Alec Baldwin dropped out (I would have gone with Carl Reiner, if he was there, but nothing against Leonard!).

Most of the TV dramas looked so miserable and empty - it reminded me of why I watch less TV each year.

Poor Jane Lynch was dressed in stuff that reminded me of Jim Carrey's lady bodybuilder character on In Living Color.

The in memory clips were poorly put together - odd exclusions, and too much time spent on the hobo looking men once again singing a song that has nothing to do with death or mourning. When will "Hallelujah" go away? I'm sure it's a lovely song, but enough already. I don't want to see legends and then hear someone singing "What's it to ya?" like they're in a Dick Tracy comic strip.

The best part by far IMO was the pageant-style presentation for Best Comedy Actress. Very clever and entertaining. I do feel sorry for the woman who won, as her show seems to consist mostly of fat jokes.

Those announcer comments were very weird weren't they? I hope this may just start a trend of awards shows cutting them entirely, since this was clearly done to take the piss out of them.

Oh yeah! I forgot to mention that! That was so brilliant and hilarious. There was one year where they wore funny glasses when their names were read out. I hope this becomes a tradition for this category.

Not to nitpick but it was the Supporting Actress category but it sounds like Amy Peohler was behind both ideas. It was hilarious!

It was something NBC did last year too but I didn't find it as funny this year.

Oh right. I just remember Amy being part of the glasses skit, so I thought it was Lead. :) But I think you're right that it was probably Amy's idea. When the Emmys are back on NBC, Amy and Tina should co-host it.
