February 4, 20251 yr Member That person has uploaded a lot of 1998 and a few more from the 00’s. I don’t know why the audience wasn’t invested in this soap? I mean they tolerate Hollyoaks which was ten times worse than this

I imagine being on Channel 5 didn't help - wasn't the channel just starting at the time?

Hollyoaks had been on the air nearly a year and a half at that point and even by 1998 when Mal Young left to join the BBC and Pearson (which became Talkback Thames) turned to Brian Park and Liz Lake, Hollyoaks had established not only it’s young fanbase, but Phil Redmond and long term series producer Jo Hallows had cultivated a beautiful, fun and largely carefree style that the said audience were responsive to- even if the acting was ropey.

Thanks for the extra info. In the long run I think Hallows was the best producer they had.
