Gay Characters on Network TV: 2010-2011

The 2010 TV season is seeing slightly more lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) regular characters on scripted shows, across the five broadcast networks with 3.9 percent representation among regular characters. ABC leads the way with the highest concentration, 7.2 percent, and CBS is last with only 0.8 percent.

It doesn't seem to matter if it's a comedy or drama, animated or live action. Here's a look at those LGBT lead or supporting characters, along with several recurring characters on network shows.

Gay Characters on Cable TV: 2009-10

Want to know what the most inclusive program on all of TV is when it comes to gays, lesbians and bisexuals? HBO's "True Blood" with six regular, supporting and recurring characters.

Actually, HBO leads all the cable networks with 10 characters in total amongst its show but it might come as a surprise to certain watchdog groups that ABC Family edges out the pay cable network with seven regular gay characters to HBO's six.

Still, after a two-year decline cable is rebounding this year with an increase of 40% IN LGBT characters being included in scripted programming.
