Yeah, particularly since the Maori Health Authority is actually a real thing due to become live on July 1 and Te Rongopai seems to embody all the fears and negative stereotypes about it.

I was going to ask if there'd been any complaints but I'm not sure if Shortland Street has as much impact in NZ now compared to past years?

Not surprised that 2000 is ranked as the lowest, although the blurb gets it a little wrong here as both the 14 characters exiting and the hospital becoming public happened in 2001 (I think the clinic becoming a public hospital is often conflated with the clinic shifting premises after the liquefaction of the old clinic which did happen in 2000).

Not surprised 2007 is ranked the highest, that set off a ratings renaissance that lasted for about 5 - 6 years.

I thought 1994 was better than 95 or 96 so surprised to see them ranked so highly

Harpers mental breakdown was well acted and I kinda like the Harper story but Marty as CEO replacement for a few days? Ugh

I think Shorty became quiet uneven.

Who gives a damn about TK and his long lost sister story? Like seriously? Who?

Damo and his plot was shocking and I never saw that coming. I feel sorry for Desi .

That Viliami/Jojo plot is so boring.

I’m more into HAA right now. Shorty really doesn’t know how to hit the nerves right now. I wouldn’t say it’s a snoozefest but it kinda is

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

TK's stories have gone through lightning speed so far this year. Hard to believe he had cancer this year. I thought the woman he slept with might end up pregnant (she still could I guess). His sister seems to be there more for a rivalry with Esther and to bother Esther's love life.

I have a feeling this church is going to be a big part of the Christmas finale - like some kind of suicide cult, I don't know.

Yeah of course. I love sharing my thoughts on my favorite shows.

TK and his cancer story was something I was looking forward too. But just coz the actor stated somewhere last year that he felt bored by his storys and thought about leaving. I really thought this would be like a exit story. But then they bring in some random sister. Ugh

I don’t know. This show has way too many characters without a real story or purpose going on. It’s worse than the 100 characters on General Hospital lol

The 30th Anniversary was kinda dissapointing too. Hell even the 25th anniversary was better. What a shame. Such hype and teasing for nothing really

I guess this is why she came back...

It's too bad, as I liked the actress. And also one of the only black women to be on the show for a while, from what I've read. Died so that Viliami and Madonna can get back together, I guess.

I‘m quiet split when it comes down to TK‘s character lately. He was one of my well liked ones but he gets on my nerves for a while now.

Marty on the other hand started off annoying and has become one of my favorites right now.

Nicole/Maeve.. I was rooting for them but Maeve has become such an irritating character and what‘s with that kiss with Harper… ugh

    • He definitely had it going on back in the day
    • I have long given up on logic and Mayor Laura Collins! It makes about as much sense as Luke being elected mayor over Lee Baldwin in the 80’s, maybe even less sense. She committed manslaughter as a teenager, was involved with a mobster (I guess credit for them taking Smith down), had a shoot out in her home and killed another mobster in self defense, thought she bludgeoned her stepfather to death, then was catatonic for years. Her current husband had a twin that was a serial killer, had his own breakdown that threatened lives, and most recently hid his brother for treatment and that allowed Ryan to escape and kill again. And had hook killer Esme as a houseguest and is raising her child. I don’t care for Sonny anymore but their relationship is just another thing that involves suspension of belief to watch the show. I wish someone on this show would remind these adults that they used to pull way worse stuff than this! I would love a scene where Laura is sitting with Lulu and tells her while she is not happy this is nothing compared to what she got up to when she was young, and maybe even some understanding that she would also do stupid stuff if she believed in the cause. Olivia reminding Dante that he was wild as a teen and this isn’t that. Felicia reminding Anna that they were being shot at when pretty close to Emma’s age. These characterizations are just so basic. Have some fun with the actual history of the show. That kind of wink would mean more to me than just name dropping some random fact.
    • There are no dumb questions here, we've all known each other long enough to fill in information without shaming each other.  We want you to be happy @carolineg.  Your POV as one of the few women here is vital. So, please, I hope you never feel as if any question, idea, or opinion is ever silly or stupid.  Your daily reminders about the realities of manicure and menstrual management has become a part of the personality of this thread. As for Hank, while I'm confident there's a plan in place.  It is frustrating that they announce these casting so far in advance that it is tough as an audience and wait it out until the thing happens.  I'm happy they didn't blow it the second Mike was in town, a week after meeting Liam. So, it is a slow burn.
    • I think his full name is Chadwick.  I remember, back when the previous actor was playing him, someone called him Chadwick a couple of times.  It may have been Stefano.
    • I didn't like those two sleeping together, but I suuure liked seeing BF in them. Wiggle and all. Just sad about the waxing of the chest.   Same.
    • It’s strange. I wonder if the writers at that time had worked with him somewhere else and had a relationship? That time is murky AF to find info on. Rachel Ames in effect left the show at one point in the early 80’s and she is credited like she was there until JFP. Tristan Rogers also took various contract breaks that were not short, and websites also credit him one long stint from 1981-1992. So many people come and go in short succession in 1982-part of 1983. I know they lost a lot of viewers when Genie left, but the show somehow survived yearly at number one through like sheer force of will.
    • In that way, at least we were fortunate.  The Daniel Pilon/Ron Raines decisions...not so much.
    • Letting Brennan put it in yet again while smirking over his shoulder... any day now! She's got him just where she wants him! I do think ol' Jack will be dead by February at the absolute latest. They have set him up as a counter-heavy to Sidwell, forcing poor Joss to work his next scheme or threatening to have her sent down for treason. Once he croaks I still deeply fear we will be subject to Valentin and Carly, partners in crime to lovers, possibly out to find out 'who killed Jack'. Anna was at her best keeping Sonny at arm's length and often somewhat cold, which she only really did (for better or worse) off and on during Carlivati's tenure. But Finola gradually got too emotional over Sonny, Jason, etc. and was allowed to do that onscreen too much long ago. Mulcahey brought some of that steel back, though Finola still managed to choke or quietly sob through some of that material as Anna found her way there lol. She's a brilliant actress and she did a good job with that stuff in '24, but now we're back to the same old and it humiliates the character whether she knows it or not.
