Then Alex escaping central casting's South American General on a bike! That sounds dreadful. Maybe its best I don't remember the details. Yeah that was a rough time on the show trying to create a New Lujack out of Simon. It was SO shortsighted and spiteful of the producer to kill of Lujack to get back at Vincent I. for leaving.

So hard to say now. I recently watched these episodes on the German channel. I couldn't find the one where she kills the snake, but it was about Alex looking for info on Alan's sorjourn in San Rios (she became ill and was nursed by a Central Casting Latina lady). Johnny, Simon, and Jessie followed her to San Rios. Because, I don't know, they needed to give them something to do? They got captured by some Central Casting Sandanista-types (Jessie was shot). This got folded into the Vanessa searching for her child story, as she erroneously thought Jessie was her child, so Ross went to San Rios to find her. As far as I can tell, no one ever found this Encantadora chick. I assume this was a story that was dropped for one reason or another (probably because someone realized it was STUPID, or maybe it was reused in some ways for the Sonni/Solita storyline later). Mostly, it ended up being about Alan (who was safely back in SF) being sought by the faux Sandanistas for some undefined crime. He had his own wanted poster and everything! Luckily, since this is a stereotypical Central American country, a sudden regime change meant Alan was in the clear AND Spaulding got the mineral rights for the whole country. Thank you so much for the insight on this long ago San Rios story. Much appreciated!

Some characters were name dropped suggesting they would eventually be on the canvas but didn't show. Hamp's wife Tia made a body only appearance once but never came to town. Neither did son Joe. Kurt Corday had a brother mentioned but he never showed up. Then of course there was the mysterious 7th Reardon child we never got to meet. Cassie's father and Sarah's one night stand never made a splash. Fletcher was adopted but thankfully never turned out to be a Spaulding, Bauer or Chamberlain. They made a big deal about Alan being nursed back to health during his time in the jungles of the San Rios by "The Enchatradora"-clear set up for her to appear at some point as his live interest but nothing ever materialized. I'm sure there were more that were set up but never showed. One does wonder what their stories and interactions would have been. I thought of another! When Mauren first hit town, she had just gotten divorced by some guy named Herbert. That's how she and Ed became simpatico, because they were both going through similar situations. Strangely, they never brought back Herbert (why would you, that name...) but they did bring back and old boyfriend of hers (I think his name was Matt). Ed had asked her to marry him but she demured, and for a while took up with Matt again. Later she decided all she and Matt had in common was sex, so she went back to Ed. (Which doesn't make Ed look very good, especially since a lot of his problems with Rita were sexual). Mitch and I have an alternate universe story going on for the 7th Reardon, a woman who apparently was once mentioned as Lana Reardon. We don't like the name, so we refer to her as NotLana, and imagine her as one of Alan's long-lost loves.
August 9Aug 9 Member I had completely forgotten about Mo's previous relationship. The only thing I remember about her from that time was wearing or pretending to wear a hidden microphone to trick this Garobaldi guy out of the house that crashed in to Bea's in order to provide a ready made setting for "Tony & Company" but I do remember the now legendary Giancarlo Esposito (BREAKING BAD-Yo' Gus!) having the small role of architect student Clay Tynan helping modify the house into the bar. I digress though...about that Not Lana...its hard to believe they never got around to her and yet the last sibling they introduced was Sean Reardon a greasy con man who seemed like there was no way he could be one of Bea's kids!

This just made me realize something: If Marland gave an unseen character an unimaginative name (Gerald, Herbert, Jennifer's husband Walter) you were never going to see them on screen. Interestingly, there were many references to unseen Mona Enright, who DID show up eventually. But I doubt she would have shown up on screen if Marland hadn't left and new writers decided to make the woman Quint was hiding in the attic said Mona. In fact, while Marland was writing the show, I believe the plan was to reveal eventually that Mark had killed her. (BTW, no insult meant to anyone with these names, my beloved grandfather was named Walter, but they aren't what you think of as soap opera names). Edited August 9Aug 9 by DeeVee
August 9Aug 9 Member At least she had those 14 months where Blake was in a coma. FYI, Blake was also a real estate agent, ordained minister and mayor.

Also, the sin they committed of making Chelsea the youngest Reardon child when it was clearly stated many times that Nola was the youngest. In fact, she resented her older siblings for leaving SF so she was stuck in the boarding house helping her mother.

Around that same era of Mona Enright, Vanessa and Trish kept talking about a friend named Blanche Bouvier so much that I thought she would eventually have a role to play. Supposedly she did show up in at least one episode but if she did I missed it. Maybe someone on the board will remember.

She was played by Jennifer Leak, who once played Olive on Another World (she caused John Randolph's death in a fire).

But IIRC, there was supposed to be some big deal about her and Quint knowing each other, which is why he spirits Nola out to Hollywood, but I don't ever think that was explained (as well as Trish thinking she'd met Quint in Europe) There's also a running joke about one of Wanda's boyfriends, Lowell who we never meet, although they did shoot him from the back when Billy comes back to town.
August 9Aug 9 Member Oh wow! An actual clip with Blanche! Thanks so much fora look at this long ago minor character P.J. So apprciated. Never saw this Vanessa temp recast but I have to say she's pretty good! And Lowell! Yes that's a great call! Often referred to, never met. Though I do recall her throwing him over for Ross's assistant Lionel for about a hot minute. LOL Edited August 9Aug 9 by Lujack4Ever

It could have been as simple as they just forgot.
