Administrator Toups Posted May 7, 2009 Author Administrator Share Posted May 7, 2009 I disagree. Kate scheming was the best part of the storyline. Now that she told the truth, I don't see where this story is heading. It screams interference. When Tomiln/Whitesell/Higley have the show on a steady path (and the numbers are up), you don't mess with the flow. I just pull out my hair when stupid execs do things like this. Members PhoenixRising05
What is the wink for? Kate's scheming was fun but once they started having her plot to murder Chloe, it just was too much. I was beginning to think maybe this was going to be an exit for Kate. IF it was changed, then I'm glad it was. I don't mind interference when necessary and this was necessary because Kate was going down the wrong path. If she was plotting revenge without the murder, that would be fine and then I would agree with you. Besides, they barely have been focusing on the story and it's so isolated. All the other stories are clicking and still on a steady path. If this leads to them tying it in with other stories and even making it better, then I'm all for it. We'll have to see but I think it's way too soon to call interference here and definitely too soon to call it a bad thing yet.
Members JackPeyton
I disagree. Kate scheming was awful, over the top, and almost unwatchable. It seemed sooooo JER, and not the good 90's kind. The awful return to days/passions kind. I also think the twist it took with her vowing to leave Daniel alone for saving Philip was great, and she still has the hate for Chloe. I felt this one story was the weak one and it played off so differently, im glad a change was made. But i dont think it was interferiance and if it was i doubt it was much more than a tone it down on the camp angle because the basics are still there, its just being told as a real storyline now and not a cartoon. Members SouthOfSoap
Well, you're the one with insider information, so I'll take your word for it But Kate did say to herself that if Phillip survived, she would halt her revenge plans (or something along those lines), so at least it meshes well with the storyline as opposed to an unexplained 180 turn. Alternatively, Kate may still be out for revenge, but decided that a game of cat and mouse is much more deliciously evil when the mouse actually knows its being hunted. I guess we'll have to see how this plays out a bit more... I think Kate (and the writers) has not figured out a way for Chloe to be punished without hurting Lucas in the process. I did enjoy those scenes between Kate & Chloe yesterday. Although It bugs me somewhat that Chloe is written as an airhead though when I'm fairly certain she was valedictorian at Salem High all those years ago... Members JackPeyton
Book smart does not = street smart, if you will.
Members SouthOfSoap
Granted that is true, but they are just writing her... dumb. Neither booksmart nor streetsmart. One would think growing up in foster homes and orphanages, she would have learnt some street smarts or to at least fend for herself. (Or as a defunct website once wrote a few years back - she grew up at the "Luciano Pavarotti Orphanage for the terminally unhappy" lol. There's not even a trace of that now - not that I really miss it, but still...)
Members JackPeyton
Not really, because when she came on she wasnt street smart at all. she never learned about any of that. i always thought of her as that girl who just kinda took life, the good and the bad, and chalked it up to thats that. she buried herself in her books. Growing up the way she did never really seemed to affect her. She also didn gain any street smarts/people smarts as an adult. Shes just stupid/blissfully blind when it comes to that. I cant say they are writing her without booksmarts tho, because what has she done that requires that?
Members SouthOfSoap
I dunno, I thought she had to fend for herself against people like Jan, Jason & Mimi and she managed that ok. Booksmarts alone didn't get her there by herself. Sure some of the things she did were lame, like putting glue in Mimi's shampoo, but it did get Mimi to lay off... Its the blissfully blind part that bugs me. Thats what I meant by airhead - clueless and unaware. Chloe, written in character would have been suspicious of Kate long time ago, bone-marrow transplant or not withstanding. She always had trust issues, even with her mother and Brady, but it didnt even dawn on her that maybe Kate was onto her until Kate dropped the bombshell. I'd imagine given her childhood and her divorce from Brady, she would be suspicious of trusting anyone.
Members JackPeyton
But people like Jan, Mimi, and Jasonw ere after her and made her aware of it. They didnt fake it. IDK, perhaps i dont mind because ive yet to see anything from her since her return that would make me say thats not how chloe would act. I think shes being written very in character and really had no reason to suspect Kate of anything. The only thing that bothers me is her promise to God, they never showed her as overly religious as far as i can remember, even when she herself had cancer. But ehh, its a soap. I loved Sami & Nicole yesterday. Shows the growth Sami has had and the lack of it Nicole has gotten. Bo & Chelsea were heartbreaking.
Members JackPeyton
WOW! Philip/Brady/Victor was FANTASTIC!
Members PhoenixRising05
Hate to just jump in the conversation but Chloe was suspicious. She had a few conversations with Daniel where both discussed how weird Kate was acting and Chloe even noted how it seemed like Kate torturing her in some way and that she really didn't like her as much as she said she did. She felt Kate was not being genuine so she did notice and so did Daniel.
Members SouthOfSoap
Yeah I remember her saying she felt Kate was false, but she never really suspected. She acted very shocked when Kate revealed the truth to her, and not just the shock of having it revealed - she seemed genuinely suprised that Kate knew. Anyway, feel free to jump into the conversation anytime you want - its not my board or thread! Always glad to hear other opinions Yeah they were. I loved Victor's jibe "Brady are you on drugs again?" ROFL Today (thursday) was a great episode too. EJ/Nicole/Dr. Baker were great and Will & Mia were cute. rafe and Sami started cute, until Sami fell in the water which was just dumb. Did anyone catch who wrte todays script? I suspect it was John Newman, given Will and Kinsey's dialogue: Kinsey: "Believe what you want, but I'm like 95% sure" Will: "You're also like 95% bitch." Granted Kinsey was a bitch and yes it was funny, but it has Newman all over it.
Members PhoenixRising05
Yeah but why should Chloe suspect Kate knowing? I mean, she probably figures if Kate knew, she would just confront her with it or do something right away, which she is right about. That is why I really didn't like Kate's murder plot or her being so slow to act. I prefer what they are doing now because Kate is one to take action right away. She would put a plan into action right off the bat and begin laying the groundwork. The murder plot was developing too slow and I never got the feeling she was sure of herself in doing it anyway. I just felt it was all a waste but, to the show's credit, they didn't just toss it out. They didn't play it much and then ended it by way of the situation with Philip. I give them props for that and I really do appreciate the way they did it. I like where this stuff with Lucas/Chloe/Daniel/Kate is going now. Much more promising then before IMO. I agree about Newman. To me, he's the worst SW on the show. All his scripts are generic and rely on cliches. They are very lazy and his attempts at trying to be fresh and hip always end up falling flat. Not sure if he wrote today (I would have to check back on my recording) but I would not be surprised. Administrator Toups Posted May 8, 2009 Author Administrator Share Posted May 8, 2009 Well, Mia's cute. Will's so stiff and stutter his lines and needs a haircut and needs to be recast. Yeah, it was Newman. I actually LOL when will said that. I thought it was pretty funny.
Members quartermainefan
I didn't really buy this notion that EJ would suspect the doctor of being behind Stefano. It doesn't say a lot about Stefano when you assume any shmoe can take him out. John Aniston continues to rule all. One thing I dislike is Nicole being this mousy woman of the kind usually found on GH: "go to your room so the men can talk" and she does. What happened to the Nicole who would see Victor killed? Why is she so afraid of EJ?
