In an Open Letter, Marlena De Lacroix (under her real name) writes to Anne Sweeney, (Frons' boss) Co-Chair, Disney Media Networks and President, Dianey-ABC Television strongly protesting the Todd/Marty redux story. She knows from letters sent to her many longtime viewers hate this misogynistic, disgusting story, especially women. Why was this story, which especially offends women, okayed by Sweeney (a woman)?

Come lend your support!

I applaud you writing this. While I have found this week and last excellent in terms of the writing and fallout for the characters, and the show's willingness to say outright that Todd has raped Marty again, I still feel this storyline was overall wholly unnecessary, especially in terms of the sex. That element at least was exploitation, and it was marketed as such, up til the end last week. That's unacceptable, particularly if OLTL plans another rape trial.

I'm so sick of this debate. It happened. It was lame. Both Susan and Trevor deserved better.

I think it was interesting that Ron tried to do something controversial, which I haven't seen on any soap in a long time. But he failed miserably because it wasn't groundbreaking at all. It's been done. And like someone said in another thread, Marty shouldn't have returned, especially not for this. That storyline was so dead in the water. To revisit it is pure laziness. It's not as if any of the characters will learn from her coming back from the dead. It's not as if her death was a huge cliffhanger that warranted her return. Ramsey is dead. All those people who were associated with him and the crash are obsolete. Why in the world did Todd devise this plan in the first place? To get back at John for dating Blair? That seems like something Dorian would do, not Todd.

I would've liked to have seen Cole continue to deal with his grief over losing both of his parents. Ron should've put Langston and Cole together because of that. Why was that cut short so abruptly? I would've liked to have seen John and Blair find each other and make each other better. Then come to realize that they wouldn't work out because it just wouldn't.

I would've liked to have seen Starr deal with her pregnancy as a teen and how she'd give it away as well.

None of these people are realistic anymore. Even when Todd was on a rampage after Starr last year, his motivation was very human. Now, no one's doing anything for any valid, blatant reason.

That's why this story is failing.

And don't get me started on the Bess mess. WTF??

GREAT letter, Marlena!!!! And I just love how you are sending it to Fron's boss and not Frons himself.

And also, now all the blame for this Marty/Todd story lies on Ron, but I feel alot of this wouldn't have happened if Gary Tomlin hadn't thrown out almost every storyline that Ron was setting up.

    • yes. today Monday's episode started with words displayed "part 1" and ended with "to be continued"
    • I find Missy Reeve's views offensive and I don't want to defend her, but I don't think she ever said anything publicly about Days "gay content".   In fact, I don't think she's ever said anything negative about Days at all.  There's no indication Missy is difficult or unprofessional on set-except for the whole affair thing years ago lol-but that's a whole different topic. I can dislike Missy as a person and still think she's the perfect fit for Jen.  Cady tried and it didn't work for me.  Whenever Missy steps into the role it works.  It's a two things can be true situation.  Missy has some bad opinions, but she's great at playing Jennifer.
    • Doesn't the funeral go into Tuesday
    • Christian Streaty wrote her second freelance script today on Days. Surprised they gave the first funeral episode to a newbie.
    • And the third thing, which I have no cite for, and I may look to see if one is findable, but supposedly she said that the show had too much gay content in it. And, to be fair, that could be someone making a criticism about balance & not be bigotry but when it's added to the other, that's why it bugs people.

The greatest tv series season finale in history.
    • Mick Savage was sooo unbearable. And more unbearable was the reaction from the female characters to him - they were acting like he is God's gift to women and sooo irresistible. To a point of unbelievable cringe.
    • Today was a short one. Only 33 minutes.  The ‘Part One’ graphic at the beginning was pretty interesting though. I didn’t expect them to do something like that.  I like how everything was focused around John and his family and friends. Again, the acting and the dialogue was very well done and well written. And I love that they were able to incorporate Drake’s, “swing for the fences” phrase into the script. It was nice seeing everyone interact with each other, especially characters who don’t often share scenes together. It felt like every character was part of a big family or community. Plus, an outdoor funeral in June makes a lot more sense than an outdoor funeral in December.  But yeah, it’s very, very strange that Will isn’t at the funeral, especially since we know that

I would much rather he had been there today. And, where’s Anna too? And Jack and Jennifer? What was the point of bringing them all back if they weren’t going to attend the funeral? I expected Steve to want to close down BlackPatch, though I’d rather he just retire and let Paul take it over. But I like that Kayla was there to comfort him. I wonder if he’s going to change his mind at some point.  It was nice seeing Shane again too. Now, he just needs to have more scenes with his son lol but I enjoyed seeing him comfort Marlena. I’m not really sure about his interaction with Cat though? Was it really necessary for this to happen now, at John’s funeral? They could’ve waited a little longer to introduce this story arc.  Btw, was Tate bleeding from his head in his first scene with Arianna?
    • This is the coldest early June in my life. It's like it's January.
