OMG, Rover, you don't mean the champagne popping opening, do you? That one was SO generic. Nice music, but lousy visuals. PEE-YEW!!

I liked the opening that debuted in October 1995 and aired until 2004 - same theme music as today, but with a bit more of a "rock" edge. Good visuals, too.

But, I do agree with you that this entire current opening has got to go!

LOL I remember watching with my aunt on some holiday. When that opening came on (She like my entire family watched the ABC soaps in the 70's and early 80's then stopped once they had careers, kids, ect)

She died laughing because when the "One Life To Live" logo swooped in she said she thought it was a commercial! "And wow these shows have changed"..

AND SFK- EXACTLY!!! The music was very lush and orchestral. And the closing was definitely better than the opening because you could here the theme song in its entirety- It was very beautiful, very Y&R ish....It was elegant.

This current song is TRASH. lolll. It is so abrasive. And I hate that friggin beat sound that is supposed to be "drums" I could do better on my Casio keyboard I got at Christmas in 1983.

I think OLTL (considering its budget and SMALLEST studio of all the soaps) looks excellent. But that opening is garbage.

Loving the John/Marty stuff but ME needs to step up his acting. Its really bothering me that TPTB are trying to sell them as a genuine love story but ME's acting choices is just plain flat. John is too emotionless and doenst expreess much happiness and joy over having Marty alive. He seems nonchalant about Blair. You cant have a successful triangle when the middle party doesnt seem too interested in either party.

Sigh! I can't believe how much I used to love John McBain. But it's gone. I don't care who "wins". I don't care about Marty, and Blair (KDP is so awesome) is the only one who's being sensible about this. She's trying to keep it light, but if spoilers play out, that won't last. So we have the same old story. McBain, who can't commit torn between two lovers. Yawn!

But I am enjoying the rest of the show. I am even beginning to like Gigi/Rex/Brody again.

I've read the posts about Todd's scar. Is there something significant about him having a scar? I didn't watch the Roger Hawarth years. Thanks!

IIRC, Roger Howarth's Todd gained an unseemly scar in 1993 after attacking Marty and Luna again after the rape trial began. The scar became his "mark of shame" for his crimes, symbolizing all he had done. It was a special makeup prosthetic which took hours to apply to Howarth's face, and he kept it there until leaving the show in 2003. When Todd had plastic surgery and became TSJ, the scar was gone. Now it's back.

Am I the only one that will laugh if Todd has a permanent scar from a nick on the side of his face while John McBain who had third degree burns over much of his body bears no permanent scars?

LOL@ the "contact lens commercial" opening! I will say, I was eager for a new one and I desperately missed the Peabo one, but I did not hate the champagne open. It was very pretty (filmed! RTR :P ), and the music was quite lush, full orchestration. It shames the current open. AND, back then when we actually had closing credits, the closing theme was GREAT over the billowing satin, very dark and sexy and totally in tune with how Llanview "felt" back then.

You mean full orchestration all on synthesizers I assume :P No real instruments. Still I loved that opening--it was Gottliebshowing that the show was now going to be a classic, sophisticated soap, none of Rauch's cheese

I thought those were real strings and a pan flute! :P

It was very early '90s Red Shoe Diaries kinda stuff. I was envious of the dude's pearly whites back in that pre-Whitestrips and veneers age.

Though it may have been more appropriate for Loving, I thought this opening added a very sophisticated tone to OLTL, only thing that would have made it better perhaps were smooth dissolves of the actors' faces, more like Y&R with only a handful of cast members a day.

When Erika Slezak in her perfectly clipped Mid-Atlantic speech delivers that epilogue at the end of the 25th anniversary special over the new theme, it sounds so damn classy and brings a tear to my eye.

When there was talk of a new "jazzy" opening theme (the "blue" opening), I was hoping it'd be a riff off of the sax part of the champagne theme.

The Pan flute may be real but them strings aren't :P It's interesting that they tested, for 3 or so months, a VERY similar opening for Loving just before the OLTL one was on--and then changed it anyway.

Is that Erika Slezak clip on yotuube? I've only seen the anniversaies from the 30ths on :P
