'GH's' Nikolas deletes the Text Message Killer

By CAROLYN HINSEY

Friday, February 29th 2008, 4:00 AM

The Text Message Killer tries to kill Elizabeth and Sam today on "General Hospital," but Jason shoots him - and then Nikolas finishes the job.

"Nikolas overpowers Diego with sheer brute strength," says Tyler Christopher (Nikolas) with a laugh. "I guess he's fueled by anger and revenge for Diego having killed Emily."

As viewers know, Diego was revealed to be the dreaded Text Message Killer this week, so now he has to be stopped.

"The fight stuff is actually really good," says Christopher. "We had stunt guys, coordinators, the whole nine."

After Diego is shot, Nikolas and Nadine head for where his body fell to make sure he is dead.

"They have no idea if he's going to be there, or what they're going to find," says Christopher.

The two separate. Nadine finds Diego very much alive, and he immediately attacks her.

Nikolas goes looking for Nadine and "stumbles onto Diego and his little office space. He's got apparatus set up in a warehouse."

Yeah, "set up" to explode with Nadine inside. But just as Diego is about to activate the bombs, Nikolas grabs him from behind. They struggle, Maxie and Spinelli get involved ("Nikolas uses that as a distraction to take over the situation") and then the famed Text Message Killer falls off the catwalk to his death.

"Nikolas watches him dangle from the catwalk by a rope and sees him go lifeless," says Christopher.

Nadine is saved, and Diego is really, most sincerely, dead this time. Crisis averted! On to the next one - Nikolas needs brain surgery to save his life.

"Nikolas keeps walking around saying, 'I'm not having the surgery, I'm not having the surgery,' but not telling anyone. Therefore, what is his motivation for not having the surgery? He likes having headaches? I don't know the answer to that," admits the actor.

Luckily, his aunt Alexis is there to try to convince Nikolas to get the surgery for the sake of his son, Spencer.

"She reiterates to him that there are people involved here other than just himself. She tells him to stop being so selfish."

He can't, though, because the tumor allows him to hallucinate about his late fiancée, Emily, and he doesn't want that to end.

"What he is trying to do - and is helpless at - is trying to find a way to live with his tumor because he can can see, touch and feel Emily and he is trying to hang on to that. At the same time, the tumor is obviously killing him. So there's the conundrum."

Our hunch is that Nikolas will consent to the life-saving surgery and find new love with Nadine.

"She's the polar opposite of him," he says. "She's a quirky, funny, offbeat, all-American kind of gal."

Which could be just what the script doctor ordered.

"He needs to lighten up a bit, doesn't he?" says the actor.

Comings and goings: Michael Damian returns to "The Young and the Restless" as Danny Romalotti this spring. Bronson Pinchot ("Perfect Strangers") plays a publicist for a few episodes beginning March 14.... Ricky Paull Goldin (Gus) has quit "Guiding Light."... Barbara Garrick (Allison) is off "One Life to Live" - for now.

Don't touch that dial: The Forresters gather to celebrate Stephanie and Eric's anniversary on "The Bold and the Beautiful" next week (CBS, 1:30 p.m.), which is ironic since they are getting a divorce.

Well, if anything good comes of this Emily will tell Nikolas to move on and continue his life and he and Nadine will fall in love. I really like that girl.
