soap divas NEVER in interracial romances!

i remember watching oprah years ago as a child. the cast of amc was there and it was the 90s. the actors who played maria, tad, brooke, edmund, etc. were there as was the susan lucci (erika, amc). oprah mentioned how erika was in so many relationships, yet she's never been with a black man! the audience and guests erupted in laughter.

erika's new interracial romance is her first and is generating quite a lot of interest (as reflected by the first ew online soap article). why do you think soaps don't usually pair their main diva(s) with a person of color?

atwt's lily, carly, barbara. b&b's stephanie and brooke. days' marlena and hope. gh's carly. gl's reva. oltl's viki and dorian. y&r's nikki, phylis, sharon, jill and katherine. all these women have been paired with tons of men yet have never been with a man of color.

the same can be mentioned for the male divas! so my question is, why do you think the soaps do not pair their lead divas with men of color. the only soaps that have successfully done that IMO are amc's hayley and julia and ex-sb's eden. why are soaps so behind with this? do you think

Phyllis was paired with a black man named Damon. Also Victoria was paired with Neil for a short time.

While I do think more interracial relationships should be shown, the same could be said for homosexual relationships. I think there is a general fear of audience backlash (in both cases). Because even though interracial dating isn't taboo anymore, there are still those who don't think it should happen.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe OLTL tinkered with objections to the Jessica/Antonio relationship. I'm not sure if it was dropped, but I think Viki wasn't too keen on Jess and Antonio dating. Forgive me if I have that wrong.

To my knowledge, ATWT has done a handful of interracial relationships, one of the most popular being Duncan and Jessica (two popular characters), which resulted in the birth of Bonnie (whom herself has been paired tentatively with Holden for a minute, and now Brad). Also, there was the Margo/Doc Reese debacle a few years back, and Barbara dated Walker Daniels for a while

But margo is more of a supporting character. I'm talking about the main divas of the soaps, which is why I used AMC's Erika as an example.

Soaps don't pair their main divas: atwt's lily, b&b's stephanie and brooke, days' marlena and hope, gh's carly, oltl's viki and dorian, gl's reva, y&r's nikki with men of color. That was my point.

heather tom's victoria was a major female character. yet neil and vikki did not even have sex. victor even made an immaculate conception joke when vikki was pregnant (with cole's baby) while dating neil since neil and vikki never had sex. whether that's bias, and i think it is, is up to the viewer.

You are talking more about the face of the show then the show divas then.

and a couple of example do not work. has Stephanie ever had another man besides eric since BB started? Brook only does men related to Ridge. Days doesnt usualy have another man for marlena or Hope.

But thing is they are directly connected. They do go hand in hand and are not showen for the same reason.
