Members George008
I think they care about their bottom line too, probably more so than any other aspect of the business. I believe they would not knowingly have made bad loans unless they were pushed to do so. Pressure from the government can be a very powerful thing. Why else would they have taken the risk, knowing the possible outcome? Do you think they are all dumbies?
Members GoldenDogs
So then, bandb, you don't blame Bush's economic policies for the current state of the economy?
Members bandbfan
I'm just saying that there are different people to be blaimed based on how you argue it.
Members George008
Sad times these are...I never thought I would see the day that a nominee for the President of the United States of America would have a name that could be used as a scare tactic. Members GoldenDogs
Is there something wrong with being "country"? I mean, bandb, does your nose crinkle up when you say it, like it's disgusting or something? Wait... YOU using W. for effect in referencing the President is acceptable, whereas MY using H. for effect in referencing the Senator from Illinois is NOT acceptable. I don't get how that works. If your saying that your connotation is more noble than mine, then I've got a Bridge to Nowhere in Chicago to sell you...
Members bandbfan
I wouldn't assume that without reading an example. Big business tends to not like democrats, yet they listen to Bill Clinton and his congress? I'm not saying anything is wrong with being country. I'm from the south so don't get all offended. Obviously you were looking to find some offense in that because I'm sure GWB would welcome being called "country." Did anyone ever call BC, Bill J? Or GHWB George H? They aren't popularly referred to as those names, why should Obama be called Barry H all of a sudden? It doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Members George008
They pretty much have to listen to any party that is in power. The government holds a large degree of leverage over business...Hence the term "power" when referred to the party..
Members GoldenDogs
Bet you money, Wales, that should he "OMG, NOOOOO!!!" get elected, the press will start referring to him as Barry, just as they refer to Bush as W. Barry is just more fun to say... rolls off the tongue like... well... Mary or Jerry. Even Larry... But even better because, when I say Barry, I get goosebumps all over and I know everything will be just fine... Eh... middle of the road. I like that comment. Members George008
They call Bush --Dubya-- not a positive connotation, I assure you...Republicans are not up in arms about it though... Clinton...Slick Willie..anyone? Heaven forbid you call Obama by his actual name...you are using scare tactics!
Members bandbfan
Slick Willie doesn't have anything to do with terrorism (well, it might if you're a woman...), but you know what I mean. Saddam HUSSEIN anyone. I can only say it's obvious what people think of when they hear that name, which is why I say it depends on your motives when you use it. Being called Barry is completely fine. I just question throwing the H on it.
Members GoldenDogs
You know... that took on a whole new meaning after his little Cigar vs. Monica Lewinski thing.
Members George008
Ok. Obama's middle name is off limits...fine...we cant judge connotation very well in writing...this is ridiculous.. Gross! LOL
Members bandbfan
Speaking of names, is there a reason that nearly nobody called John McCain by his middle name during the convention? Was that supposed to be a jab at democrats that I'm just now picking up on? They nearly all said John S. McCain.
Members Wales2004
I'm only half following this since I don't read all of the posts and I applaud you for dealing with this. People call refer to Bush as W or GW to distinguish him from his father since he isn't a junior, otherwise he'd probably be referred to as Jr. That's not comparable to calling someone by a name that isn't commonly used in reference to that person.
