yes, I knew that. It was a mistake. It was not a joke, mind you, just a mistake. I don't want to offend you. So let me officially post my correction: except for 9/11, he was totally unimpressive as MAYOR.

Now back on the who is qualified topic and unrelated to my previous drror:

As far as experience, if executive experience is the true test, than McCain does not have experience to be president either. Since there is only one president at a time, and since the president of the United States is the most power individual in the world, it would seem that nobody has the experience to be president except those who have already been president. The most recent president with his executive experience was a total bomb so I guess we can rule out that former president as having the necessary requirements. Governors ran for the nomination and none of them got it this year so perhaps people have decided that want something other than "executive" experience.

In my opinion, a president should have the ability to lead and rally Americans and the ability to have some credibility with foreign leaders. Since Obama is the candidate who is not going to represent the Third Bush term and he seems able to motivate people, I think he is a good leader. Also, he does seem to talk about something other than winning a war that we should not be in, and he does seem willing to deploy troops to the war that we should be in, I like him. Also, the fact that he seemed to have the ability to meet with foreign leaders without blustering, I think he can build credibility. I really get tired of GOP chest pounding and saber rattling.

I was laughing with a friend about the border stuff. I said that since we're close to Mexico that we have a whole host of foreign policy experience. I don't suppose they know how idiotic they sound repeating that.

No Rosa wasn't the only one but she was the only one who shouldn't have been since it was sheer shameless exploitation.

I did see some footage of some black Republicans being asked about Barack Obama and that had me shaking my head but at least one of them pointed out that just because he's black they don't have to agree with him. That is so very true.

Hey as long as Colin Powell wasn't there all is well.

I wasn't offended by you calling Rudy a governor. That's not really the same as relating the party I belong to a group of people that killed millions.

Like I said before it's your prerogative to joke about whatever you like, but you lost my respect when you seemed to think it was cute or ok to joke about republicans being Nazis.

You made it clear that you do not need a lecture, but you still need to realize the impact of your comments.

Now that's funny and I guess had it been her husband as the VP candidate it would have made sense.

IA with your edited response above. I think Obama exemplifies the qualities of a leader and being able to communicate is extremely important. It's my understanding that European leaders like him because they see him as diplomatic and that's important to them since they don't want to be constantly pushed in supporting wars when diplomatic strategies might work.

I wonder how they feel then about Obama's plan to strengthen our presence in Afghanistan.

I think Europe would look to John McCain for leadership rather than Obama looking to Europe for guidance. It would seem more important to me to make decisions that would best ensure the safety of Americans rather than European preferences.

Military force should be the last option. I don't think we'll get that with a McCain Admin. We'll get the very same shoot-from-the-hip, reactionary foreign policy that has us bogged down in Iraq and has lost the faith of the European Community.

FP is nuanced. You can either react to situations in a region, shoot first and ask no question, or try to strike a balnce in the middle. Obama and Biden would do that........McCain would just as soon launch a attack on America's enemies and then wonder why everyone is pissed off at America, and then we can rely on Palin's FP experience.....

I mean after all, Alaska sits close to Europe.

They drew a strong correlation between McCain and Reagan last night. (some of you guys might have missed that while reading the liberal blogs instead of watching)

McCain was more involved with the Reagan admin than any other since becoming a senator. He was as they like to say, a "foot soldier" in the Reagan Revolution.

Rudy Giuliani was only three months away from leaving office when the attacks occured. He was responsible for completely revitalizing the economy of NYC. He turned it from a stagnant city that was riddled with crime into one that now thrives.

Funny how that is unimpressive to democrats just because he is the keynote speaker on the behalf of John McCain.

He was IMO the best MAYOR in the history of our nation.

    • Yes. And I assume he met Mary Ellen Stuart at GL.
    • That's an odd coincidence. Yeah, Roger would turn anything he could to his advantage. At the time, he's just taking the pictures to bank leverage over Reva, Billy or the Lewises.  I'm kinda squeamish about 1986 episodes myself. I'd love to hear the original version of Ross/Vanessa/Dinah, but the Cain story is bad, and I don't want Billy and Vanessa to break up.
    • Eeek. I didn't know this either! I will say, though, even though they skimmed over a lot of Roger's past, I will give them props for not trying to turn him into a hero. Yeah, I was hoping we would get more 1986 episodes than were available on YT before, but now I'm wondering if I really want to see that.
    • That's what Julie Hanan Carruthers is doing for BTG at the new studio in Atlanta, but JHC is credited. And @errol said JHC is working in a nonproduction capacity at Y&R.
    • I remember when the whole Missy Reeves controversy started in 2012.  She tweeted support of a business that had made homophobic statements. Greg Rikaart (who was on Y&R back then) publicly called her out on it, but was willing to reach out and speak with her. Article here: https://greginhollywood.com/greg-rikaart-talks-about-his-twitter-war-with-fellow-soap-star-melissa-reeves-over-anti-gay-chick-fil-a-73139 That being said, ten years later, on DAYS, in 2022, when they had they double wedding of Leo/CraigWesley and Gwen/Xander, Jack and Jennifer came to the wedding.  At that time, Missy Reeves was only intermittently available for DAYS. Jennifer was living "in Boston" and Cady McClain and Missy were each intermittently appearing as Jennifer, on the specific occasions when the show required a Jennifer to appear. Missy wasn't on contract and she could have said no. But she chose to appear as Jennifer for the gay wedding of Greg Rikaart's character.   So... I mean... I would assume they reached a détente behind-the-scenes. Missy still has her belief system but there's that.
    • That was one of the best grandslam finals.  Alcaraz comes all the way back down 2 sets to 0, and three match points in the 3rd set, to win it in a 5th set tie-break.  And the quality of play was excellent - so many great shots.  What a battle!
    • Indeed. I may try to watch it in full sometime, but not anytime soon... Mark played Sean Baxter for a few episodes when Courtney married Andy. Burke was either on Broadway or at OLTL at that time, I suppose.
    • Well, Josh was a horndog. LOL Yep. It was one of the first really weird things Reva did with her PPD. She became obsessed with the idea that Dylan and Sam should get married. Sam was only 17, and needed her parent's permission. Reva helped them leave town so they could go to a neighboring state where Sam was old enough. Ross, Billy and Josh stopped them, then Sam went to India to try and persaude Justin. Reva followed her and didn't tell Josh she was going. While Reva was gone, Josh advertised for nannies, and Harley applied. He ended up hiring someone else. But when Reva returned, she hired Harley because (in her weird mental state) she wanted someone she could trust with the kids (because she feared Josh was trying to get rid of her and that Vanessa wanted the children.). After Reva starts treatment, she asks Harley to stay until she's stronger because she's good with the kids. At the party, Reva starts going off the rails, insulting Justin and Josh hauls her to a private dining room to ask WTF. Reva starts confronting him about the "affair" with Vanessa, and he realizes she is weird. He locks her in the dining room and frees Mindy and Van from the ladies room (where Reva has locked them in). Van starts telling him that Reva attacked her and needs help.  Reva escapes out the window of the dining room and goes back to the party, climbs onto a table and starts a striptease. Josh gets her to stop, takes her home and after filling Ed in, decides to go to the doctor the next day. Reva then takes off and spends days running around town, coming on to a guy she thinks is Billy, Billy, Hamp, Frank and Roger.  Roger takes her to his apartment and takes nude pictures of her, which he tries to blackmail Billy with. He wants the deed to the land the Towers is on in exchange for them. (Billy had been left the deed by a sweet old lady who lost her home in the 5th street fire. Roger had stolen the deed from her before she died. After Roger took those pics of Reva, she saw him hide them, and took an envelope from the hiding place. She didn't realize she'd taken the deed and not the pictures.)  Anyway, Billy and Vanessa trick Roger into burning the pictures, claim the deed and at the Towers opening reveal that Billy owns the land and therefore the Towers. That's what led to Roger and Alex's breakup and Roger and Mindy's affair. Mark Lewis was on ATWT? 1986 is not a good year, storywise. No bueno. Muy no bueno.
    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
