April 14, 200817 yr Member Scott Hamner stayed at Port Charles when the hack left. His return is very worrying. Even his primetime stuff wasn't well recieved. I'll admit I actually enjoyed his season of Knots Landing, but it is one of the most unpopular among fans. His stint at PC post-LML was dreadful as well. Considering the show isn't that great as it is, I'm shaking in my boots. It's a good thing I have Dark Shadows and Peyton Place to keep me interested in soaps. MAB needs to get it together fast. If SH is back as Co-HW, it's only a matter of time before she's upgraded to HW. Time is running out for us being easy on her. Sylph is going to be begging Kay Alden to return at this rate, lol. ETA: As Co-HW that means he'll be pitching stories right? We know that the awful Carmen Mesta mystery was his idea. *sigh* Edited April 14, 200817 yr by Chris B
April 14, 200817 yr Member ^Hamner was just as responsible for the mess that was Y&R last year. He was the one who gave a lot of interviews to the magazines talking about what great stories they had in place, and we saw how well that turned out.... Hopefully, he's the first casualty when his contract cycle is up and Maria shows that she has some type of backbone... Edited April 14, 200817 yr by Y&RWorldTurner
April 14, 200817 yr Member Y&R- Scott Hamner back listed as Co-Head Writer on April 15 :faints: Of all the hacks that inhabit the Earth, he is the worst.
April 14, 200817 yr Member I'm starting to think Maria has no backbone and the only thing Bell about her is her last name via marriage.... Oh, it would be ironic if takes a Bell to decimate the show even further... Edited April 14, 200817 yr by Y&RWorldTurner
April 14, 200817 yr Member What did Kay say? She didn't actually say anything scandalous. I, however, have this capability of detecting certain things others might not see or hear. She said how she doesn't like the fact that there is no mentor/pupil relationships in daytime and how she thinks that it's the way things should be: a HW during hi/hers tenure should train a younger writer who shall over time take the head-writing responsabilities. But that is not the problem – I somehow felt her comment was dismissive of other writers who might be a better fit than her protégé. She generally seemed to be clueless about many, many things. As if she was living in the 19th century. Her kids also have horrible taste in television (Entourage )... She completely misunderstood today's younger generation etc. It was distressing hearing her. Also, she somehow didn't actually reply to some excplicit and clear questions, she was sortf of evasive, for the lack of a better word and had a minor ego problem. As far as B&B is concerned, she seemed to dismiss it saying how it was a cute little show Bill Bell created for Brad to helm, basically how it's silly, funny, nonsensical piece of a show. B&B is a soap opera, no matter how funny, not a sitcom, woman!! I had this feeling she discredited it together with Brad. That is why her hiring is such a surprise to me since I thought she didn't get along with Brad. Perhaps, and I still have this feeling, this is just a business deal, not a declaration of love. All that I wrote in this post is, of course, my impression, nothing else. Other people might have judged the interview differently.
April 14, 200817 yr Author Administrator Maria's material hasn't even aired yet and you guys are already throwing her under the bus? LOL Also, it takes 6 months to a year to assemble your team.
April 14, 200817 yr Member QUOTE (Chris B @ Apr 14 2008, 11:00 PM) Sylph is going to be begging Kay Alden to return at this rate, lol. No, thank you, I'll pass. She is faaar better than many writers today in daytime, but I would never hire her again. She had her chance, now it's time to leave. DaytimeFan's idea of her being a story consultant or a consulting producer with somewhat more power is quite a good one. Other than that – she gets nothing.
April 14, 200817 yr Member Maria's material hasn't even aired yet and you guys are already throwing her under the bus? I'm wondering the same thing!!! I love Maria fifty times more than I "love" Kay.
April 14, 200817 yr Member Also, it takes 6 months to a year to assemble your team. Believe me, I can assemble one in half an hour. Tops.

It's hard to be optimistic when you look at the current state of daytime television. Not one show is technically very good at the moment.
April 14, 200817 yr Member Believe me, I can assemble one in half an hour. Tops. Assemble it then, what's your idea writing team, Sylph dearest?
April 14, 200817 yr Member It's hard to be optimistic when you look at the current state of daytime television. Not one show is technically very good at the moment. That is why, no matter how awful the stories, I will always adore the British soaps. They're just the best. Then, the second place is taken by the Aussie shows. Just the other day I watched April 11th episode of Home and Away and I love it! Nothing special happend, yet I adored it.
April 14, 200817 yr Author Administrator Believe me, I can assemble one in half an hour. Tops. Anyone can, but we don't have to deal with contracts.

I also remember when someone mentioned how well written Claire Labine/Paul Avila Mayer's Ryan's Hope was and she dimissed it, simply becuase the production values of the reruns look "so dated." WTF? What does production have to do with good writing and a good overall show?
April 14, 200817 yr Member Assemble it then, what's your idea writing team, Sylph dearest? Honestly, don't you already have a very clear idea about who you'd hire if you were an HW? Now that you mention this, I've yet to find out about your taste in writers. Apart from Labine and Curlee.
