AHB was a wonderful writer but her style wasn't well suited to DAYS. The show strayed from its escapist romance/adventure formula during her tenure. Allen & Schoettle's writing was less sophisticated from a character-driven standpoint but they (Al Rabin) did a good job restoring the formula. Sadly, it was all shot to hell again when Langan arrived in 91.

I could be wrong but I believe she's remarked that the whole environment was cold and unwelcoming. I found that strange considering DAYS' reputation for having a very close-knit cast.

maybe there wasnt enough coke on the set? cuz we all know how the GH set was back in the day...

LOL! She said doing Days was a major back-step in her career, especially in the 80's. She went on to say that she didn't know exactly how to play the character because the writer's hadn't mapped out her identity and literally had no idea what to do with her. Days had a similar problem when they hired Lynn Herring and created a character for her that they didn't know how to utilize, but Genie was used more. She was really disappointed in her time on the show. Also, during her Intimate Portrait Special, she said she had NO INTENTION of ever returning to GH, she wanted to stay on AMC, but ABC fired her because she was "worth more to the network as Laura." She said as soon as they fired her from AMC, they asked her to return to GH and said she cried over making the decision to go back, because she really thought she wouldn't do GH ever again. I guess the main reason she went back was due to not much being out there for her to do acting-wise.

Her character on AMC wasn't much developed either, but AMC was undergoing a creative renaissance at the time, along with Y&R, it was regarded as the best soap by many critics at the time and was a steady #2 in the ratings, after Y&R. When Genie returned to GH, it would also undergo a creative renaissance, under the guidance of Wendy Riche and Claire Labine.
