How do we bring Drake back?

I discovered this week I love love love John Black but even so I want that character to stay dead dead dead.

I could deal with Drake coming back as a new character like the one Drew described, as the Santeen love child younger brother of Stefano who was the model for the pawn yet has no history with Marlena (yet...) and perhaps even as the professor with a wife and teenage son who shows up in Salem in January like the one described in the rumor I've seen going around today. I don't want him to be revealed as John Black though the way that Gina became the real Hope. He needs to be someone with a totally new history, but I don't really care whether Drake plays him pretty much the same way he played John.

Now am I craving this story? Not really. But after being forcefed Ejamicas, Shellip, Payla and Stephanie/Chelsea stories non-stop for the last year I am certainly willing to give any stories involving a new Drake character a chance just for the sake of something different on this show where a backburner character or characters get a chance to move to the frontburner.

JER *just* didn't give Drake campy writing. JER also gave Drake many dramatic scenes (1993-1996) in which Drake hit it out of the ballpark. Drake proved it again last week that if you give him dramatic material, he'll step.

Drake coming back as another character is just stupid. He's John Black and has been for the past 21 years.

Sorry, have to disagree with you on both counts. Other than a scene here or there, I think JER brought out the worst in Hogestyn, and I certainly don't think it's a stupid idea to bring him back as a full and complete new character, cause, I came up with it lol

Drake under JER the first time around had some really good stuff to play (Yes, I did like parts of Reilly's first tenure with the show...)

The second time around he was mostly a buffoon.

I tend to believe not all is as it seems. I think John's dead, but Drake returning to play someone else isn't out of the question.

All I gotta say -- and I know the show has to stop kowtowing to the fanbases in part -- is you're not going to change that behavior overnight. You've just ticked off John/Marlena supporters even though the material was some of the best stuff Days has presented in years. You're about to upset the Shelle supporters with this upcoming storyline (and thrill Phelle fans, I know... lol)

With ratings where they're at, this might not be the best strategy.

Or might it? ;)

    • Thanks, msn drives me nuts on the one hand but on the other hand their headlines appeal to me. And, I just don't do FoxNews.
    • The link doesn't work.  The actual link is this: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/composer-leonard-bernstein-s-children-request-his-music-be-played-in-the-kennedy-center-in-rebuke-to-trump/ar-AA1E7gw5 That's a reprint of a FoxNews article. MSN reprints stuff from many sources. You can tell the source from the logo above the headline on the msn page. The FoxNews article is describing what Leonard Bernstein's children wrote -- as a "letter to the editor" of the New York Times. Instead of reading it filtered through FoxNews, here is the original: "Our Dad, Leonard Bernstein, Would Want His Music Played at the Kennedy Center" https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/02/opinion/kennedy-center-leonard-bernstein-protest.html Non-paywall archivedcopy of the same NYTimes letter, without commentary: https://archive.is/QaLqD
    • Might be a long shot, because I can't find a thing online about it, but I was Googling the actress that played Nell Cleary (Frank's cop friend that went through academy and then became cops together during the entire Brent Lawrence storyline). To my surprise, she passed away in 2011, at the very young age of 45. I can't find her obituary or anything online about her passing, but I'm curious, does anyone know what happened? Her IMDB only shows a few other acting gigs post-Guiding Light, so she didn't make a career out of it, but I thought she was a great actress in her role as Cleary. Her name was Mary Peterson.
    • What was Ruth Martin's association to the Thornton family?  I only remember the daughter that dated Tad, and she had a buxom mother.  But, did Ruth date David Thorton before Joe?

Why didn't Steve respect Monica and Jeff's decision?  I get he's Jeff's father, and that's how it came out, but I don't like the ethics of the story. A stranger gets to make life or death decisions over a wife's demands?   I hope Monica secretly never forgave Steve's chauvinism.
    • Question: Jon-Michael Reed's review of 1977 is up in the retro soap section.  It includes a fleeting reference to comedic scenes between Jeanne Cooper and Julianna McCarthy regarding “Kay's would-be beau, Ralph the Plumber”.  Could someone please fill me in will more details? I forgot that Kay and Liz were friendly before Jill stole Kay's husband.  And the thought of Liz playing a comedic scene blows my mind, because I only recall her being dour both in demeanor and wardrobe.
    • I said this on Twitter on Friday when Leslie mentioned Chicago, so perhaps she might be related to one of Anita's bandmates. In addition, Leslie did say she grew up listening to The Articulettes too.
    • There was a scene in the past week or two with Leslie looking at some papers and mementos, which included an invitation or souvenir from Alan's memorial service or funeral -- it was dated as November 2024. Me just guessing but it seems to me that Martin's nightmares about the accident are from something longer ago than November.
    • ah thanks! do you know who the third one was in the blonde? the fifth one i know ive seen before in the brown wig but i forgot, and then ive never seen the psychic one before lol
    • I felt for Ted early on but as the story unfolded it has changed my opinion on him. To know he was cheating while his wife was struggling to give him a baby is a lot to deal with. Plus, this happened ages ago and still he's paying Leslie off and threatening her to leave town.  What really caused me to lose him in this episode was how even though he was busted, he still refused to take responsibility and come clean and the way he talked to Martin and Eva was terrible. To tell Smitty he better get Martin away from him when that is his SON who he used to cover up his affair? That is true dog behavior. Ted seems upset he got caught but I'm not seeing the remorse I would need to want Nicole to forgive him. I'm curious how I'll feel after Ted gets to talk to Nicole but I need him to fix it with the rest of the family as well.
