Wow...today was just wonderful...We had John, Marlena, Bo, Hope, Roman, Anna, Kayla, and Steve all together....Add in Tony/Andre and Stefano and it doesn't get much better than that...The history they discussed today was so on target.. The Salem Strangler killing Renee and Trista, framing Roman...The plane crash killing Daphne, stranding Bope and the others on the island, Roman "dying" on the island, John appearing soon after to shake things, Andre in the quicksand (great flashback), Tony disappearing in the fog, Andre returning in 94 set to marry Kristen, Andre framing John for the murder in Aremid, Tony/Andre returning in 2002 saying it was Andre who framed John, and Tony/Andre being behind the Salem Serial killer/Melaswan ordeal...it was great getting an actual timeline...And i was really happy to see Kayla finally involved in the Brady/Dimera feud storyline..Steve showing up and the end and revealing that Andre couldn't answer the trivia question was great..

Even the younger crowd was interesting today...I'm really starting to get used the Trevor Donavon, he's seems to be really improving..and i'm so curious what they are actually transporting....The scene with Jeremy and the buyer after max left was creepy...Also Jett questioning Max was really good, he's obviously investigating Jeremy..Finally, i'm really curious to see how Jett responds to Chelsea telling him Danielle is married..

I'm starting to like Stephanie, Jeremy and Jett as this story is starting to take off..also all the actors are improving...Plus i'm happy Max finally has a storyline...But i really wish we could do without the extras...I don't understand why Touch The Sky couldn't have their very own suite???????It seems stupid to have to pay all those extras for non-sense material...

I agree about the party crowd in the hotel suite. I think they are annoying and distracting; save the cash and ditch all of them! The actor who is playing Jeremy has been doing much better IMO; I still think he's too perfect looking, but I guess it's not the actor's fault that he's so pretty.

I remember one time Nicole referred to her as the Salem Serial Stalker, a combo of both. ;)

Looking forward to watching today's show, minus Days of Our Lives: The Sperm Dumpster Edition, as I refer to the teen scene as, since Stephanie is a cum-starved nympho.

It still doesn't make sense that Stefano would allow Andre to "become" his son (I think Marlena suggested this). Stefano hated Andre because he killed Renee. If Stefano is behind this, it's just wrong.

I hated the Steve scenes b/c Stefano is being dumbed down.

And, even though I've watched this show for 27 years, the history and flashbacks was covered so quickly. Marlena said, "Yeah, and he killed my cousin Trista." No emotion. John said they'd do whatever it takes. Marlena said the same thing. Then Kayla said they would get the job done. Silly lines from everyone.

And Anna's lines about her love for Tony . . . she didn't seem to have any emotion today at all.

The vets are all in the scene, but how much are they invested in what's happening? I know Stefano has done them all wrong at one time in the past, but it seems that today everything revolves around Sami and E.J.

There's just something that's missing here. There's a spark that's missing. A certain something that was there at one time and just apparently can't ever be recaptured (but, gosh, I wish it could).

I'm also concerned that all the history references are only confusing newer fans who don't know the Salem Slasher story and don't really care. Some of them don't even know about Tony and Kristen or Aremid. Are they going to be hitting the FF button now?

Something just isn't right. Maybe Hogan isn't the one to write the DiMera stuff. I just can't believe all this history can be traced back to two characters (Santo and Colleen) that we don't know and have nothing invested in. I'm just not liking it, and I want to like it. I really do.

Maybe it's just me.

Chip, it's not just you.

That's because they're Hogan's couple. This feud should be about Stefano and the older adults but like you said, it's about Sami/EJ.

I also don't like the watered down Stefano. He's not the one driving the story and he's barely used.

I'm starting to believe that also. I think the only person who can write this Dimera/Brady feud is Sheri Anderson.

Compared to shows from February, today's show was material worthy of an Academy Award. I don't have any idea of what some people are complaining about now. Today had John, Marlena, Roman, Anna, Bo, Hope, Steve and finally Kayla (it's about time) all tackling the DiMera dilemma. Turn the channel and try to find another soap with that many vets with that much airtime. Y&R, maybe, but any of the others? Fuggetaboutit! And that many flashbacks using so many different classic characters played by the original actors? That isn't appreciated? WTH?

The only weak point I saw was in Stefano's reaction to his youngest son's supposed death. The beats on that should have been played out longer. Stefano may be a villain, but he has always loved his children, including the adopted Blake siblings. Hogan's biggest misses lately have been Stefano's lack of anger and remorse concerning Lexie's abduction and EJ's shooting. However, Steve playing the redneck dim bulb in the DiMeramobile? Comic relief at its finest.

I have been liking the TTS storyline all along. Jeremy is an ass and a half, but he is going to go down, and that will be fun to watch. Stephanie's cover, "we're downloading porn", was cute because of Chelsea's reaction and Jett's lack thereof. Great story? No. Better than Shelle? A Jessica Simpson infomercial is better than Shelle.

As for a spark being missing, a few months ago three-quarters of the engine was disabled, so even if that is believed to be true, that marks a huge improvement. Personally, I find the show just about as good as it has ever been. There have always been weak stories, but the great tales are the ones that are remembered The next time a viewer is unhappy with a plot, try comparing to one of DAYS's worst stories, not just one of their best. That would be much fairer to the actors and the writers, and it would probably lead to happier viewing.

Of course the show is better than it was from Jan-April and today was a good show, but this Brady/Dimera should be written better. Hogan/Meg are not doing it justice. Also, Hogan's been saying how much he wanted Joe back and now he misusing him! What's up with that? Heck, we haven't even had a Lexie/Stefano scene! How come we didn't see Stefano deal with that Lexie situation? There's been a lot of scenes that Hogan/Meg are skipping over. I don't know why key beats are not being written or if they are written, why are they being cut? Man, who knows what's going on behind the scenes. It's always a huge mess with Corday and Wyman.

I remember when SSH and BH were complaining when they were sidelined for Bo and Hope's adventures back in the early 80s. Time marches on, and Sami is quite a bit older than Hope was when she became the show's leading lady and Deidre is quite a bit older than Susan was when she was backburnered. Moving the front and center story down to the next generation has to be done, but the previous generation should stay in the picture. Currently Hogan is doing a better job of this than any other soap HW, except for maybe LML.

And as for Sami and EJ being Hogan's couple? I wish.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. But Sami and EJ shouldn't be front and center and this storyline, not a storyline about the past, and not a storyline that should have characters who've been on the show for 20+ years driving the story.

Trust me, they are. ;)

I have to disagree partially with Dr. Chip.

Today was the first time, IMO, we saw something from Leann and Anna beyond the gold digger. She brought the humanity back with Anna with how she spoke of Tony and how she worried over what could have done if Andre was playing his cousin's life out for him. I thought that a lot of the events themselves were discussed a bit too flippantly, and it sucked hardcore to have Josh Taylor in those scenes.

The only thing that's making me not care about this damn Vegas story right now is that it's all fresh, new faces. Yes, the DiMeras are somehow linked to this, but ever since learning this, we haven't been thrown anymore bones in that regard, and since no one else is really involved, it sucks. Even though it is interesting, it's hard to get invested, no matter how much I adore the scree presence that Darin Brooks and Rachel Melvin both have. The others have gotten better, but they have no magic. Darin and Rachel both have it, or the potential as did Blake before he stopped giving any energy.

Exactly! Sami should have investment where the DiMeras are concerned. Stefano once attempted to raise her and her twin brother. Her parents were yanked out of her life. But the point is, as far as Sweeney's Sami goes, she's never given a rat's behind about the DiMera's, and now is not the time to start in a front-burner story. This story does not belong to her, stem cells, or not.

    • When Robert Calhoun became EP I thought GL was finally hitting its stride after some pretty rough years. Unfortunately the ratings during Robert Calhoun's run did not reflect the quality of the show.
    • There was a five week break between the last Friday episode and the Thursday episodes which were the final four episodes. I have a feeling the final four episodes were refilmed to wrap up the storylines.
    • Yes, I forgot there was a gap between his exit from GL and his start at ATWT. This almost makes me want to cry. He really turned ATWT around (and good for them). It would have been great if someone had done the same for GL. Can't imagine who. The Dobsons were doing Santa Barbara at this point. I mainly blame Kobe. She may not have been the worst EP they ever had, but she almost totally destroyed the Bauers and decimated much of the rest of the cast, sometimes for egotistical reasons. That was a huge mistake and made it that much harder for the show to recover.
    • Douglas Marland began at As the World Turns in September 1985 but it took about a year for his run to show growth in the ratings. 1986 As the World Turns becomes CBS's #2 daytime drama after Y&R.
    • This is not at all surprising. Watching the recently uploaded episodes, the uneveness is SO apparent. Characters are changing at the drop of a hat. The stories are close to incoherent. It's a mess, and we're only up to May. What a fall from grace. An Emmy-winning show with good ratings and within a few short years hitting possible cancelation territory.  I'm surprised CBS and/or P&G didn't try to do SOMETHING to restore its former glory. Was Marland still at ATWT at this point?
    • I think she did, yes. The only part of that return I remember appreciating was the ripoff they did of Earrings of Madame De, where a secretly broke India sold a trinket and Ross or Alan (I think it was Ross) then bought it for her, not knowing it was hers.
    • 6-4   Getting around to the rewatching and I guess Dani/Bill/Hayley as A story is coming around better to me. I hope that means that I will feel different about Friday's episode which first time around I felt was more of a Wednesday/Thursday episode. Anita's story and Dani/Bill/Hayley (with Kat vs SilkPress being a solid B plot to keep the SilkPress storyline alive, but NOT A story) have been the focus for this past week. So I'm worried I'll feel a way when I get back to Friday's episode. I guess I'm about to find out.   I know I have issues with Dani/Bill/Hayley coming back into focus since the much better paced SilkPress storyline is truly where it's at with so much aftermath/new direction to explore. However, I'm finding that...just like with the story of Martin's secret being slowly woven back into the story narrative...I care a little bit more for it since it's been background since Week 3, Month 1. IMHO the characters...outside of Hayley...have been developed in other plots. The past week and a half has had Dani and Andre growing closer and they have gotten to the 'third month what are we?' talk that I expect in all relationships in real life. And I liked how the writers have slowly had friction between them to see what they are made of? Is it still just a booty call or can it be more? Meanwhile, Bill has been hiding his physical issues for months. Too busy messing with other people's marriages.

So now that they have some more POV to them, it was good to see an organic...and yes, it was organic...reason for them to be in the same room. In this case...the hospital room. Lord, Karla and Timon have such great chemistry. And Dani and Bill were so acting like exes. No wonder Hayley feels threatened. Oh, well. lol. Bonus...the drama with Bill has Hayley and Naomi back in each other's orbit. They don't have enough scenes together.    You all know I was waiting for Anita's story. So how am I feeling? Pretty good. TT has been playing it to the hilt. And I was not expecting the story of a fourth member who killed themselves after being pushed out. And it's had a build. First through Tracy. And now with Sharon...who is swiftly being established as a piece of work. A Have-Not (if not Has-Been) who is not above scheming. Okay. lol. I liked the conversation between Anita and Vernon where she told him the truth, and he tried to hold her up. Whether she deserved it or not, it was good to see. I'm sure all of the secrets are not out yet so I look forward to more. Cuz we know they are not cancelling the reunion. Which fingers crossed...will be at the police fundraiser.     Honestly, I continued to be impressed with how the writers have kept Silk Press Sheila out of jail, but still playing the beats of it all. She's definitely in covering her tracks mode, and it's great to watch. It's also great to see her mixing it up with different characters. I was happy to get the long-awaited showdown between her and Nosy Nurse and Nosy Nurse READ...HER...DOWN. I was just disappointed Nosy Nurse spilled some tea. And that led to SilkPress's scene with Andre. And then Andre...lord...talked too much.   C plot this episode has been Chelesa's love life. I was wondering where it was going to go after her talk with Vernon. Enter...Mystery Woman. I wonder what her secret would be that would get in her way with Chels. Related to an enemy of the Duprees? Married? I am intrigued. And I do like Chelesa getting the spotlight because daytime does not really do it like how they are doing it with her.    Can Kat and Jacob get a spinoff? lol.
    • 1986 began with the EP change from Gail Kobe to Joe Willmore and the HW change from Pamela Long to Jeff Ryder. Over the course of 1986 there was turnover in the HW ranks: Jeff Ryder, Jeff Ryder and Mary Ryan Munisteri as co-HWs, Mary Ryan Munisteri and Ellen Barrett as co-HWs, Joseph Manetta, Joseph Manetta and Sheri Anderson as co-HWs. The 1986 ratings reflected the quality of the show. GL was saved from cancel territory in 1986 because Capitol was still CBS's lowest-rated daytime drama.
    • As Michael should be...DARK.   I'm just getting through my first few scenes of Rory as Michael. And I'm already picking up chemistry with LW, EMcCoy, and SMattson from the jump. I liked Rory as Noah on Y&R, but felt it was wasted potential. So far...he's proving me right.
    • Oh, lord. Those rumors are true, aren't they?
