OLTL Discussion: Week of April 9th

Seeing Timothy Stickney was probably one of the best things about this week. This show sorely misses his acting abilities and the RJ Gannon character. He is definitely MIA and could be adding so much to the present storylines and with the history of his character. The question is why TPTB don't get this?

As for Jessica and Nash, I'm just not feeling them and I hate what was done to Jamie, was it really necessary? Yes I know it's fiction but to not even stop at that, and now move on to next week with what I saw in the promos? Give me a break, is this supposed to be entertaining?

I could go on and on about this show, but there isn't much I'm liking lately and one of the reasons I watch is now not under contract, and this burns me up.

Jess, I wish I had watched when RJ first came on the show and he and Hank locked horns! I think I missed something pretty special there.

The funny thing is, your description of RJ sounds like the way TIIC over at GH would describe Sonny, LOL. Except that on GH they constantly shove down our throats what a great guy Sonny is when all I see on my screen is a mindless thug. On OLTL, there is no doubt what RJ's background is, and that is never whitewashed to make him seem more heroic than he actually is. Instead we see (or USED to see! ) RJ treat the people he cares about with depth, kindness and loyalty, as you say, and we can appreciate for ourselves that he is this multifaceted character. Played by a top-notch actor. Friday's episode where he comforted and hugged Jamie -- and shot Antonio an angry look over her little shoulder -- encapsulated the character. He was so sweet with his little granddaughter... he'd made a real concerted effort to agree to the adoption, even though he had doubts about Jessica... and now his doubts have been confirmed. Watch out!

LOL, I'm rambling, but RJ and Timothy Stickney are one of my favorites. I'm SO mad he's not on contract, and that the whole Nora/RJ/Lindsey thing has been dropped.

As for the Jessica/Nash scenes, I was trying to think of what they remind me of... and then it hit me:

Remember the covers of those 80s romance novels you used to find at airports? Usually featuring Fabio as the beefcake? LOL, yeah. Those scenes were still great, though. Soaps don't do those Forbidden Love SLs so much anymore.

The greatest tv series season finale in history.
    • Mick Savage was sooo unbearable. And more unbearable was the reaction from the female characters to him - they were acting like he is God's gift to women and sooo irresistible. To a point of unbelievable cringe.
    • Today was a short one. Only 33 minutes.  The ‘Part One’ graphic at the beginning was pretty interesting though. I didn’t expect them to do something like that.  I like how everything was focused around John and his family and friends. Again, the acting and the dialogue was very well done and well written. And I love that they were able to incorporate Drake’s, “swing for the fences” phrase into the script. It was nice seeing everyone interact with each other, especially characters who don’t often share scenes together. It felt like every character was part of a big family or community. Plus, an outdoor funeral in June makes a lot more sense than an outdoor funeral in December.  But yeah, it’s very, very strange that Will isn’t at the funeral, especially since we know that

I would much rather he had been there today. And, where’s Anna too? And Jack and Jennifer? What was the point of bringing them all back if they weren’t going to attend the funeral? I expected Steve to want to close down BlackPatch, though I’d rather he just retire and let Paul take it over. But I like that Kayla was there to comfort him. I wonder if he’s going to change his mind at some point.  It was nice seeing Shane again too. Now, he just needs to have more scenes with his son lol but I enjoyed seeing him comfort Marlena. I’m not really sure about his interaction with Cat though? Was it really necessary for this to happen now, at John’s funeral? They could’ve waited a little longer to introduce this story arc.  Btw, was Tate bleeding from his head in his first scene with Arianna?
    • This is the coldest early June in my life. It's like it's January.

    • Now this strikes me as funny. I have it up on my acct. The thing is I only have S2. Didn't want either 1 or 3.  Perhaps I should just list all of these that I have up.  Parodies: Dirty Sexy Money, Filthy Rich Incomplete: The Monroes, All That Glitters, Falcon Crest (have all just not all up), Once & Again S2 only Complete: Models Inc, Pasadena, Pacific Palisades, Paper Dolls, Flamingo Road
    • This is wonderful! Thank you for posting this! I loved the first two seasons and never got to see the final season when they cancelled the DVD release. I've been hoping this popped up on streaming but no luck. Happy I'll finally get to see how it ended!

    • In case it is of interest to anyone here, I have digital copies (computer files, mp4 etc.) of all of the episodes. And, besides having the files they are all up on my usual video hosting site, acct name: shallotpeel, channel it is in: Primetime Soaps and file names like  Flamingo Road S1E15 Hurricane Flamingo Road was a primetime soap on NBC by Lorimar Productions. 2 seasons. 1980-1982. Morgan Fairchild, Barbara Rush. Developed by Rita Lakin.
    • Arguably DAYS OF OUR LIVES has been brilliant lately & definitely was last week. But, here I am with nitpick & technicalities. This was the only misstep but it was just a stupid thing that should have been caught. Deidre Hall as Marlena has this one problematic line, "It didn't matter how many identities you had, I always knew exactly who you were, you were the man who saved my life." - Marlena, DAYS, 6-2-25 Unfortunately the flashback closest to it was when Marlena was on the phone, terrified because she thought he was Stefano. Yes, it's true that the line is not accurate. There were many times when she did not feel the way she is claiming because of whatever was going on in story with his 'retconned to hell & back' identity & origin story. Does it keep the whole week from being called excellent? Nope.
