Y&R: New Promo!

Seeing as this is not Y&R to so many people, can any of you please explain to me what the hell Y&R is then, because I have been watching for almost 20 years and I have seen these plots all before, so what is so not Y&R about it? please explain. Other than you don't like LML. Most soap characters that are leaving the show go out in this kind of fashion it has been a Y&R staple for years, so I just don't get it.

I mean would everyone rather be watching Kay Alden's sperm storyline or what? Everyone wanted business back on the show and it is back, yet there is something wrong with it, it does not feel like Y&R was before, yet no one that says this ever explains what they mean.

The show is extremely rushed and plot driven. The only research done is for this insanely boring plot details ala Reliquary and now Clear Springs which I'm sure we'll be preached at for a few months. Oh yes and it's not interesting to watch someone text message for an hour or sit at a fricking computer. Boring.

I want to see the character relationships explored on a consistant level, not whatever fits the plot. I want romance and the couples we used to have. Now they only feature Jack/Sharon, Phick, Colleen/Adrian and whatever else will fit into Latham's plot driven mess.

ETA:

About the exits, the reason it sucks so much now is because Latham has no regard for the history of the show. She isn't bringing back old characters like before, she's bringing on completely new people with no ties to Genoa City and shoving them down our throats. The people she does bring back is screwed up, like Phillip who is 10 years younger than he should be. Even the biggest hacks don't make that mistake. And where are Nina and Phillip IV, two key players of this story? Billy?

H-A-C-K!

I agree with you that the text messaging is boring, but I also think they are doing that to try to be hip to a younger crowd of viewers that do nothing but text message people all day, young people are also on the computer all day, so it is real life that she is imitating. Also remember though to me anyway looking at flowers or Victor or any other character drinking water every 2 minutes was boring as well, so it just got replaced by another boring thing, lol.

As for the exits I believe that Olivia is coming back for Dru's "death" so that is bringing back old characters.

As for shoving new characters down the throat I don't like it either, but Adrian/Collean now have a monster fanbase so LML is just giving them what they want. I also don't think Cane is Jill's son, so it could be that the real Phillip could still be out there and older than Cane looks.

I am not trying to say Y&R is perfect because it is not, and really has not been for over a decade, but I just don't see why there is this much hate for the show, it has been worse alot worse than it is now, and most of that happened during Alden's years. If I recall people wanted Alden gone 6 years before LML even took over. So for everyone to act like LML is killing the show, didn't Alden already do that, LML is here to fix what mess Alden left behind, it may take LML a few years to get the show back to greatness, it is not going to happen over night, it took years to get bad and boring, sure LML's first storylines were not great some were even horrible, but I really think she is finally getting the hang of things, and it is getting better, I just don't want her to start writing the show like Alden did, and make the show boring again.

Also a question I would like to ask you Chris is what happened to change your mind about Y&R you were one of the only supporters along with me a few months ago with Y&R and now you hate it just like everyone else?

Flower and other classic Y&R shots gave the show character and were directorial choices, not stories like the text messaging/computer porn, which is 100% boring and crap. What other show on television has their kids text messaging all day?

Sorry, but Traci and Olivia coming back for two days doesn't count as bringing back old characters. It's obvious they're only brought back because they HAVE to be brought back for these things. Latham has no interest in them as long term characters.

They've already said Cane is 31, so he won't be older. This screws with the chances of a Nina/Phillip IV return because the ages won't match up. And it doesn't matter if Adrian/Colleen are so popular, give us variety. There shouldn't be three major couples on a fricking soap opera. The show should be all about the relationships, which Y&R was.

Latham has already showed what type of plot driven mess she'll write and it sucks. Time is only going to make her worse, especially with all the new characters and character assassination.

Once Kay Alden/Jack Smith left the show because completely plot driven and I no longer have the faith I had before. Because Latham was new and with a strong background I figured she'd iron out the kinks, instead she's gotten worse. She's a good primetime writer, TERRIBLE for a soap and even worse for Y&R.

Another thing that helped show me the light is watching some classic Y&R and seeing just how amazing the show once was. What we're watching now doesn't even compare. I see why Y&R was #1 for so many years and why Bill Bell is so loved. He truly was a genius and they need to keep searching for his replacement.

If 1997 is Bill Bell at his worse, then thats sad because it's better than Latham at her best. So far I'm on my fourth week and this tops anything on any soap opera right now. The only thing I don't like is the lack of Abbotts (only Jack and limited Ashley), bad recast of Victoria/Ashley and Jill with this boring Keith Dennison, but his daughters are great.

The characters were real, relatable, diverse and the show isn't driven by the plots, but the characters. Thats the most pleasant thing in these episodes for me. Lots of the action takes place at Newman (which is also Jabot I believe), but there is no Clear Springs/Reliquary, it's all.about.the.characters. That doesn't seem major, but on todays show is really is rare and almost unheard of.

Oh yes and I've come to the conclusion that Sandra Nelson is a much better actress than Michelle Stafford. The latter I guess has the popularity and soap star looks, but her choices baffle me a lot of the time. She does great emotional peaks, but the rest is very blah or irritating in a GigglyHeffa sort of way.

97 was a pretty bad year (for Y&R standards). It was rescued mainly by VR, TC, AD & JW.

After that year The Abbotts pretty much disappear.

Jill/Keith are ok (if boring) mainly cause there's not a lot for GVD to really work with.

Meg & Trish don't get really good (relatively) till a few years later.

They're pretty much polar opposites.

SN can't touch MS unpredictibility & sheer off the wall energy & MS can't touch SN's grit or realistic maturity.

And SN has better chemistry (much better) with CLB than MS, but MS has better chemistry with PB.
