American Idol News – Bucky Covington Gets Record Deal, Mandisa Writing Book, Kellie Pickler In Hockey Brawl

Alabama might be famous for producing American Idols, but Tennessee seems to be the state where they come to live after Idol. From American Idol 4, Carrie Underwood, Bo Bice, Scott Savol, & Jessica Sierra all settled in the Nashville, Tennessee area. From American Idol 5, Bucky Convington, Mandisa Hundley (already a resident before Idol), and Kellie Pickler all now call Tennessee home.

Bucky Covington has become the latest American Idol 5 finalist to sing a record deal. According to the USA Today’s Idol Chatter Blog, Bucky Covington has signed with Lyric Street Records in Nashville, Tennessee. Bucky’s debut single “A Different World” is scheduled to be released to country radio on January 16, 2007, and his debut album is scheduled for release on April 17, 2007. Lyric Street Records is also the label of American Idol 2 finalist Josh Gracin.

Mandisa also recently signed a record deal with a Nashville based Christian label and is currently working on a book. The Tennessean reports that Mandisa doubted God after losing on American Idol, but writing a book helped her realize that God had already provided her everything she needs. The book is going to be called IDOLeyes and will address Mandisa’s food addiction and derogatory comments made about her weight by Simon Cowell.

The Tennessean also reported that Kelly Pickler became involved in a hockey brawl. According to entertainment columnist Beverly Keel, Kelly Pickler attended a Nashville Predators hockey game on Saturday. After the game, Pickler joined Predators Jordin Tootoo and Scottie Upshall at a Nashville bar called the Tin Roof. After Pickler did a handstand in an attempt to cure hiccups, a pretend hockey fight started. Pickler ended up on the bottom of the pile, which resulted in a knot on her forehead.

    • I do think there's room for optimism, especially with Amazon making enough new episodes to last until December. There's still time for the various players to get their ducks in a row. Guess we'll know soon enough!
    • I do agree it's better to just have people pop back into town. I never understood why Roger needed a mask on an island, when neither Fletcher or Alex would've known who he was. And the vine...sigh. Couldn't he have just been sent crashing through a window or something?
    • When the announcement was first made, I did wonder if other plans were in the works. I guess we can always keep hoping, especially as the show has a small core cast.
    • @chrismlAbout Lisa, agree to disagree. Actually at the time she was the only thing my partner & I disagreed about. Naturally she was Team Vicky while I was steadfast as Team Lisa.  About John & twin paternity, I think that like the 3 pillows was a transitory idea someone had that no one else agreed with. More of the attempt to accommodate Philece. About MJ, co-sign, 100% agree, if there were more degrees I would claim them. About Wally & Felicia, always a fan. Mitch? Eh, take or leave. Although I do agree that WGE is a really striking man. Who have I left out? I don't know so that's all I got.
    • RIP Wayne Lewis.

    • Dallas peaked early, IMO. Maybe not a fair statement as I’m still making my way through the first half of its run, but I think it’s hard to argue to point that S3 into S4 was its high point. Back to Knots. Wrapping up “And Never Brought to Mind.” Greg’s introduction kinda took me by surprise. I low-key dreaded his arrival bc I know he very quickly gets to the center of the show, but even though they wasted no time connecting him with Mac, Abby, Gary, and Karen, it still feels like a gradual intro. The juxtaposition of the ending of the Chip story with the heating up Abby’s plotting is quite symbolic of the changes the show was going through. I absolutely cannot imagine Kenny and Ginger having any part in any of this. Yall, the Gary/Val piano theme that they pull out from time to time is my FAVORITE. I find myself humming it constantly.
    • Bloodshed is inevitable now. It’s another reason I’m glad Black people aren’t getting involved in these protests. As awful as this is, I keep reminding myself that 54 percent of Latino men voted for Trump. These people were put in harm’s way by members of their own communities and sometimes even members of their own families. Too many people decided to touch the stove.
    • Maybe I'm still in denial, but nothing about Neighbours' ongoing social media output gives the vibe of a show that's ending. In today's 'Roundup' video, Alan Fletcher referenced that production finishes in five weeks, but in all the show's posts the cast are as jovial and lighthearted as ever. Remarkably so for people who are about to lose their jobs.    Perhaps they're just putting a brave face on things, and I know they approached the previous axing with a positive attitude. Maybe putting an upbeat face on things is a collective way of showing potential backers that there's still life in the show? Or is it possible that they already know the show has been saved, and we'll get an announcement next month when filming wraps and the show 'rests'?   Does any of that make sense?!
    • A very good week for male eye candy on GH. New Michael is beautiful, Curtis's arms looked great in that polo shirt, Cody looks even more handsome with his new haircut AND we got Marco in swim shorts rocking his lovely bod and chest fur.

    • Yeah when Jamey Giddens did breakdowns for DAYS, he would sometimes state in tweets that specific things were his idea that he had pitched to Ron.
