If President Ford was a liberal Republican, then Betty Ford was an all-out liberal. Her stances put her at odds with many Republicans in her husband’s administration. She was pro-choice, spoke openly of her kids having pre-marital sex (and saying she accepted it), and believed in legalizing marijuana. Some have speculated that she smoked medical marijuana when she was suffering from breast cancer in the ‘70s. She was a hip First Lady.

I totally agree that he was a great man and greatly underapprecaited.

He worked FOR the country and not on polls.

But what I find funny is that people are only saying that Repubs should look to him as an example. I think there are plenty of people on both sides of the aisle that could learn how to be a better politician by looking to Gerald Ford. No party is perfect and to use him as an example would benefit anyone from any party.

Thank you for everything Mr. Ford! You were one of the greatest Presidents, who will never get the respect you deserve.
