2007 Preview

Mike/Katie/Simon/Carly/Jack/Brad:

As most fans know by now, Mike and Simon are leaving. "We love these characters deeply. As far as I'm concerned, the door is always open." On top of that, Carly will also be away for a bit as Maura West goes on maternity leave. "Their departures obviously have a huge impact. Coming out of this, Katie has to try to pull her act together and be a grown-up, but of course things get in her way. Carly has a massively huge decision to make, and also has to deal with the consequences of her actions. It has major story impact on her and on her entire family, which is exactly what she's been worried about. Jack wants to do what's right, but he loves this woman and cannot help wanting to protect her." The exits leave just Jack and Katie - until his brother Brad comes to town. "He and Jack are cut from very different molds and we will be emphasizing that, although not necessarily in a dark and cloudy way. We hope to have fun with them." We couldn't help but notice that he is also a bit younger. "On soap operas, the aging process is very fluid. What can I tell you? [laughs]"

It's the same old crap week after week. Jean P. must be fretting over how to fill the void of Simon, Mike and Carly. Of course, it means a new man for Katie. Why can't Luke, Henry, Lucinda and others have a turn on the front burner and Katie just sit it out for a while and be supporting?

So I guess they are open to a recast of both characters. I'm anxious to know the status of their contacts with Shawn Christian.

From SOD:

CASTING ABOUT/GRAPEVINE

Online is a little blurb that looks like a piece of a "news story" saying that the part of ATWT's Mike Kasnoff, which will be vacated when Mark Collier leaves, is being recast and that Shawn Christian has been approached to resume the role, which he originated. Not true, says a spokesperson.

I had a feeling that wasn't true. It started with a casual blurb in SID that people took to be hard news. I REALLY don't want the character of Mike back on the show. The next hunk cast needs to be Chris Hughes or some other Hughes (maybe a Frannie teen son for Luke or something).

I don't even need to read the spoilers anymore. I already know what they're gonna say, because it's the same tired thing week after week.

Oh well. Maybe its best since ATWT is being written atroiciously right now. He may wind up on a west coast soap in 2007 if he doesn't have any luck this pilot season. He once said he had gotten approached by GH and Y&R
