  1. I think Christie is being underestimated. I agree that he is further outside the mainstream than he appears, but with the right having gone apeshit the past few years, he is able to appear more mainstream than he really is.

And Hillary is being overestimated. Her approval ratings aren't what they were in 2011. And she is a woman. It's gonna hurt her. The things we're not allowed to say about male candidates will be used against her. I see the gender gap coming into play, except I think woman-on-woman crime could do her in.

If it is Hillary vs. Christie, I could definitely see him winning.

  2. I remember hearing over and over and over about how brilliant Ken Cucinelli was, and that libruls feared him because he's a true conservative who knows how to win!

Ken Cucinelli is creepy and cray as hell, but as much as I hate myself for saying it, I think he's so f*ckable. Please please let him be a self-hating gay and have a Larry Craig "wide stance" moment in an airport mens' room. If I could have just one wish.

  3. I really really don't care anymore. Let's not raise the debt ceiling and see what happens so we never have to deal with this again. Personally I think the govt has other extraordinary measures it can take before default, but default would be inevitable.

  4. With our media and the Koch power, I have a feeling the Republicans will be made into martyrs and heroes if they do this, with Democrats getting all the blame.

If the Democrats get the blame it is their own damn fault, not the media's. They set themselves up for this time and time again and never play the same game when they have the majority.

  5. I'm sick of hearing about it. Shut down the government already and then the Republicans will lose that bargaining chip for another 15 years like they did the last time the government shut down.

As for defaulting, unfortunately that could have permanent effects on our interest rates, but I say we go ahead and let them do that as well so they can lose that bargaining chip.

I don't want Obama to negotiate with them.

  6. SoapNet showing season 1 episodes right now. Holy crap, I have not seen these in forever.... maybe I have only seen them once or twice if ever? Tuned in expecting to see this week's DAYS episodes and caught this. This is so much different than what the show became, kind of like Knots Landing season 1 or Dynasty season 1... a real interesting perspective on moving from the midwest to Beverly Hills. Actual character development for Jim and Cindy. They would completely lose that by season 2.

I liked the reboot in the "summer season" of season 2 but this is good too. Muting my BB feeds for this.

  7. Is there any place on the internet where these can be watched? I saw there was a DVD set of all ten seasons and I was all set to go but then I saw that they dubbed over the original music, just like the MSCL release... I think the music was such an important part of this show that I don't know if I can make that purchase, at least not for that price :-/

  8. Watching this every weekend on SoapNet the past couple months... it has been years since I have seen this show but it truly is an enduring gem -- I think, like Knots Landing, this has gone on for a long run and hasn't jumped the shark. They are mid-way thru season 8 and it's great. They were able to keep successfully re-inventing themselves, and even when it feels like it should be "bad", it is good, whether by retro charm or the cast's charm.

That said Brandon and Kelly are sickeningly sweet as a couple and I can't wait for them to break up lol. Shocked at how completely minuscule and pointless Hilary Swank's short stint is. She has 2 episodes left and she has done nothing. Maybe that's why this didn't kill her career... nobody even remembered she was on this.

While I'm enjoying season 8 I would really really really love to watch the high school years but it's gonna take a while :(

  9. I live in the NYC area and I actually prefer Anthony Weiner to Christine Quinn. Quinn to me is a hack. Anthony Weiner was always one of the more politically shrewd Democrats and did at least give lip service to the problems of the middle class.

  10. Frankly as an Obama supporter I just want the immigration bill to first pass. Then afterwards we can deal with the gay issue. I say that as someone who likes guys myself....

Personally I don't want congress/Obama touching the gay issue (tho I'm aware that former Idaho senator Larry Craig already "touched" it, lol). Nothing except complete marriage equality dictated by the SCOTUS will be acceptable to me.
  11. Ya, the first season is pretty painful IMO. I think it started out WAY to slow. Also, the poor family really didn't fit in. It is funny how Dallas was original going to be about lifestyle then became all about Ewing Oil then dynasty was going to be about business then it became more about lifestyle. KL is the best. I love Abby!!!

The first season can be amazing though, especially if you have seen/read "I Claudius", which Dynasty was partially based upon. Granted all of the oil crap with Matthew/Walter is incredibly boring but the Carrington family drama is at its best and most realistic in season 1. The pace is painstakingly slow but it's a 13 episode, complete arc, maybe one of the best arcs in network tv history.

That said upping the ante in season 2 was great as well and season 2 stands out as an amazing season in television history. But it would have been interesting to see the season 1 trajectory play out, still gutting Walter, Matthew, and Lindsay. There is something incredibly and unmatchably glam about the understated glamness of season 1.

I haven't seen it in 5/6 years but I don't think my opinion would change.

  12. I am excited for Sochi. I need to start getting back into this. I just wiki'd it and saw Queen Yuna won Worlds 2013. Would love to see her become the first woman since Katarina Witt to defend her title at the Olympics.

  13. To me this show was at its peak in the mid-2000s when there was constant drama surrounding it whether it was Star Jones using the show to pay for her wedding and then getting fired and pretending she was quitting or Rosie O'Donnell going at it on split screen with Elisabeth. It has been irrelevant for quite a while now.

  14. Looks like there will be no sequester deal. The poor will suffer the most, at least at first, but no one in Washington cares about them anyway. Wait for the media to tell us, breathlessly, that this is all for the best, unless they can blame Obama for it, like celebrity-obsessed Woodward.

Meanwhile, in the latest adventures of, "My God, this person has power?"

My job is federally funded and staff cuts are on the table... right now it is theoretical because nobody knows if funding will be cut, but if it is they will really have no choice but to cut 1 or 2 positions (out of about 50). I am not worried about my job because frankly they would be fucked without me... but still, what a stupid self-inflicted blow to the economy. That said, I kind of like the defense cuts and this was the only way they were going to happen.
